  • Learn how to build a sandbox cover. In this video, you will learn how to build a 6x6 sandbox cover from pressure-treated lumber. This diy sandbox cover is completely waterproof. The sandbox featured in this video is 6 foot by 6 foot and features a covered tarp lid. Having a lid or cover for your sandbox is very important to keep the rain out of your sandbox and to keep the sand clean and free from any debris. This tarp cover over the diy sandbox also helps to keep cats out of your sandbox! I will detail each step to take when building this diy sandbox cover. The sandbox cover it shaped like a roof and is constructed of pressure-treated pine 2x4s and a heavy duty tarp cover. Overall, this covered sandbox adds great value to a backyard playground. You can build this sandbox cover very quickly as it can be easily built in a day. Since building the 6x6 sand box with tarp cover and using the sandbox lid before thunderstorms and heavy rains I can tell you from experience that this sandbox with the waterproof cover works incredibly well and I recommend building one yourself!
I really hope you enjoy this video. This covered sandbox can be modified to suit your needs easily and there are many ways to configure the lid in terms of removing it and what hardware is used. I built mine close to a fence and the roof rests on bricks. If you have your roof resting in an upright position like mine you can simply use a bungee cord to lock it in place. If you are not installing this close to a fence or wall you can simply open up the roof until it rests on the ground. Hope you find this video helpful, take care!

Nice roof I would have to attach it to the fence somehow so a big wind couldn't blow it down where I live.

Or have it roll to the side instead of lifting off the ground.

I had the same thought. Was concerned big gust of wind would blow the roof on top of the kids while they’re playing

Thanks for the video. I followed this method for an 8'x8' sandbox and wow is that lid heavy. My fault though.
At least it isn't going anywhere!

It definitely has some weight to it but keeps the sand nice and fresh 👍

I like this idea. How heavy would you guess this is?

I’d say it’s about the weight of five 2x4x8ft. The idea is that once you hinge it to one side of the sandbox it makes it even lighter to lift. Another option that I considered but didn’t have enough room is having it simply roll off the top with 2 small tires.

Really hope gust wind doesn’t kill those babies that heavy wind sail seems very dangerous

I strap the top to the fence behind so theres no way for it to fall in the wind. If you were in a bigger yard you can simply let the top hinge all the way to the ground, I just happen to have s a small yard and a fence right there.
