In 2022, California ranked 7th in terms of lowest rate according to U.S. News research (Bowling Green U had California 9th that year). Last year it was the lowest according to Forbes research (but more like 7th lowest according to other sources such as Zippa). In 2021, the U.S. census ranked California 11th for lowest divorce rate. The common theme is California is not high against most states when it comes to divorce rates. But two of the big reasons is that people in California get married later than in most other states and it also has the 3rd highest cost of divorce in the country.

People are so quick to chalk this up to politicians. The higher cost of labor is due to the cost of housing cascading into everything else. People won’t go after lower wage jobs because they need to keep the roof up so employers raise wages to get people to walk through the door. I have to charge more as an employer because the only way I could get someone is by paying more. If the cost of any necessity is affected adversely by a lot people make decisions where to work. Housing is astronomical and handouts are crazy because the people who live in this state lack the political motivation to build any new housing and drives the existing stock up.

First, I don't think anyone is going to feel sympathy for property management and HOAs. Couldn't find a better example of a small business?
Second, you've got to love how they're whining about consumers not spending money on non-essential goods and services. God forbid people actual be financially responsible and try to save money.

I hate reports like this because the buzz word of "small business" isn't really Joe's sandwich shop. It's Joe's Sandwich corp, LLC owned by company X. This is branding to blame people wanting to live in the areas these companies want them to work in, without having to commute 3 hours to get to that "mom and pop" sandwich job.
This is about these companies just not wanting to pay people to do the jobs they need them to do. Its about them hating that payroll, after rent, is most likely one of their largest expenses, and they cant take out their collogues in real estate, so make the employees - oh, worry, workers, suffer.
