Former Californian here, most of the Republicans in California are almost as liberal as the Democrats themselves. Compare a California Republican to any other Republican from any other state. You typically can see a vast difference in the mentalities. Even I see it in myself.

The common theme is California is not high against most states when it comes to divorce rates. But two of the big reasons is that people in California get married later than in most other states and it also has the 3rd highest cost of divorce in the country.

It’s the others cities like Austin for example that never expanded and never adapted that don’t like the expansion and now they’re feeling the growing pains. People are so quick to chalk this up to politicians. The higher cost of labor is due to the cost of housing cascading into everything else. People won’t go after lower wage jobs because they need to keep the roof up so employers raise wages to get people to walk through the door. I have to charge more as an employer because the only way I could get someone is by paying more. If the cost of any necessity is affected adversely by a lot people make decisions where to work. Housing is astronomical and handouts are crazy because the people who live in this state lack the political motivation to build any new housing and drives the existing stock up.

The true numbers are much higher. When an individual’s unemployment benefits run out they’re no longer counted.
It's at least 2.5x what they claim.
