This video has really inspired me to get myself a couple of hawthorn. My dad's removing an old hedge and it looked unpromising to me, but after watching this I think I can make something!

Great observation. I noticed hill farmers have been planting these for centuries in the UK. They are great people to get to know anywhere in the world. Good luck with your tree hunting.
I’ve been planning to go find a Hawthorn this spring. Then I hear you say, “I only collect from limestone”. I feel like Yamadrori is pretty much a pipe dream for me. Every time I think I have a plan something makes me doubt it.
You can collect a tree from anywhere (within reason). A forest, a field, a hedgerow, a garden, the list could go on 👍

Well put together video Tony. Congratulations. You produce quality trees, tools and consumables. These videos are just the same. Never mass produce anything unlike many people out there. Great to see someone who is building british natives not buying japanese imports all the time. People must see more of this work. I would be interested in those Paul's scarlets you have been getting into and how they differ (if at all) from monogyna and laevigata. Any infomation on what to do with graft unions? Do they grow in well? Good luck with the channel.

Hello Tony. First of all thanks for sharing your knowledge in all your videos. I collected an hawthorn this winter cause it was due to be cut down anyway, and did the bag trick you explained. It is pretty thick (13 cm base) but had just a small fist worth of fine roots. Now it is full of shoots, literally exploding. Do I need to cut some of them cause he won't be able to sustain them or do I leave them? Sorry to bother you with this, love from italy
Leave everything growing, try not to let them touch the sides of the black bag. Im happy you have the success my friend

nice three an technique , but practicing yamadori in this moment of history is quite sad. we who love nature should preserve it and contemplate the beautiful valuable threes there where they grow.

I would love to have hawthorn , but we not fortunate enough to grow them here in my area in Southern California.

Always get permission, it’s easy and most landowners are OK

Hi Tony, I got some hawthorn yamadori today and there’s no buds on it at all. Have any of your hawthorns got buds on or is it possible that my specimen is dead perhaps?
It’s a bit early yet, I will be collecting around the end of March

@@TonyTickle ok. :-( my last 3 yamadoris have a diameter about 60 an 80 cm.. i didn´t have so big bags.. i habe to glue some together.. :-(

can hawthorn survive in tropic climate?
Hawthorn MUST have a cold period, ideally frost, they are a four season tree
