Its great value for a lot of viewers I think.
Thanks so much! Yeah, I noticed the lack of content and with how much fun I had playing this game, that's what inspired me to start making videos again. I wanted to test guides, let's plays and everything at first just to see what I liked making, but the let's play of Triangle Strategy kinda burnt me out, so I am for sure sticking to guides for the future. Thanks for the support! I hope I can bring some good value guides!
Thank you for posting such a well thought out and informative guide. It has changed my whole perspective on the skill system in this game. Many things that were missing in the games tutorials were explained here. Of coarse it does mean I will now have to start all over 😩
No problem! I'm still figuring out my balance of informative but trying not to be boring Haha. Even on hard mode you can get through the game without being totally optimal, but if you want to restart too I've been having a lot of fun on my third playthrough! Good luck!
The fact that you get sizeable EXP from using swap and push, means that it can be a really easy way to get weapon exp on your secondary weapon when you are at the point of the game where you get level 10 on your main weapon, love it
I just started the game and sketched out criteria for training in a fog. This video makes that so much easier. I laughed to myself concerning Battle Mages with axes not being op enough. Of course you can't use an axe, than. Love the idea for a mage with a hand shield. What a picket!
This was a nice and informative video. I always favor magic classes, and agree that Dark Magic feels a little weaker compared to Elemental Magic. I think having Dark Magic have all the debuff skills, and Elemental Magic serve as a raw DPS wasn't the best implementation for either.
Yeah, it's definitely got it's flaws with the systems, but there's so few other games recently that I feel captured the simple joy of these tactics games that this is still my favorite new game. The game devs are also very open and taking suggestions for how to improve/ what to include in a NG+ feature, so I feel like this game and future games will only get better!
Great guide! I'm finally getting around to playing this game from my Steam backlog and was wondering a couple of things: 1) The "red" abilities you get for mastering a class, is there a limit to how many a character can have on at once? Do they compete with any non-red things? 2) Does the Battlemage's Brumal Strike work with Diagonal Thrust using spear or is Diagonal Thrust only for the basic default attack? Thanks!
Somerhing I want to try is a dark grimore on Eden. This would let him focus on the supportive moves of the dark mage as they don't really care about magic
I havent played the game in ages and i want to do an other run, but i forgot, can i for my frontline, max out mage, take retaliation and keep it ? i dont remember if i can or not
I would love a detailed breakdown of why you think elemental magic is better than dark magic! I feel like I always thought my dark magic users were going to be more useful, but ended up not using them as fully as I could, but I couldn't tell you why! I'm interested if it'll make sense when you go through the magics.
I use the crap out of the dark magic users! The root spell stabilizes damage from enemy melee on their next turn. Saved many an arse in my time. Silence is God. The defense reduction lets me kill bosses before killing their minions. The spell that simply removes them from the battle field buys you two turns where the boss is simply not present while you wipe out his minions. Seriously, not sure how a person, "sprinkles them in," because they aren't a sorcerer. In almost every tactics game, mmo, crpg and SRPG, people rate most efficient damage being best tier in most players eyes. This one is different. I run a warlock with nothing but crown control except the lich arrow. Edit: you mention that you rarely take magic damage without also taking physical damage. I set this up often with the use of the aoe dot that lasts for two turns to separate them and drive them away from each other , or I use the root spell, or remove one from the battlefield for a turn. I have a few super resistant characters that soak up the hits from casters after I neutralize the melee. Dark is so amazingly useful.
That's awesome! I don't think I ever tried killing a boss before the minions were dead, I might give that a try! Were you playing on hard mode? I feel like the extra defense plus the boss dmg reduction always made me just feel forced into killing the minions first. The Expulsion (removal) skill is definitely one of the best spells that dark gets, it's so satisfying to use, I just wish the unit actually had more of a visual "expulsion" from the map. Ngl, one of the reasons why I didn't always bring a Warlock is because Gilbert was by far my favorite dark user and sometimes he isn't available, so I would just avoid using the other Warlocks, haha not really a good reason. But that's awesome you like the class so much! I agree the crowd control is awesome on Dark, but I do think it slows you down as opposed to using more damage or a sorcerer. Do you feel like using only crowd control on a Warlock slowed you down? I'm not sure how much the EXP bonus is for each turn, but my OCD made me want to finish every map as quickly as I could ha.
@@lolfroob6665 yes, playing in hard mode. I got through the 8th battle in hard mode maniac but started again when I realized how absolutely insane that was going to be lol. It isn't easy to kill the boss before it's minions, even with the def debuff. I have done it twice, and both times it took nearly all of my people and both times I had to use a couple rewinds to get the sequence right, including once using movement to push someone out of the way. Truth is though. That was when I had a highly physical damage team. I now use two warlocks, two sorcerers, two bishops, so not much room for physical damagers anymore. That's probably the problem doing it late game. I probably did it from state 10-15 somewhere. Hmm, guess that's why I hate turn orders giving bonus experience in games. I hate being incentivised to use damage only. I don't pay attention to the bonus experience, so I hadn't considered that's why the damage classes are considered better. That design concept unfortunately will force people to use damage only team makeups and leave many of those other awesome classes scorned. Like the frost bolt on ranger. I know you liked that skill. But me, I have three rangers built for it. If nothing else, a frozen enemy doesn't counter, so even if you kill it, you are saving damage against your tank or assassin. I just don't care about the bonus exp I guess. I need to remember other people do before putting more frumpy posts in their comment section. 😂 Nice vid! Will be watching for more! P.S. played Triangle Strategy on Switch when it came out. Many find the story too long, too much. But I absolutely loved it. And the tactics are too notch. Just remind people that it is meant to be played multiple times though. I strongly believe that it is it's core design.
Haha, no I'm really glad you did make your post, because it made me really question about whether the bonus exp is worth it. Did you still have all your main characters and aides lvl 50 by like the 3rd or 2nd to last chapter? Because if the bonus exp doesn't make that big of a difference, that will really change how I play! Quick note on frozen enemies, I thought that they still counter, because your attack breaks the ice and then they counter? I seem to remember still being countered, but I'm not sure. Sounds like a fun challenge to kill bosses with minions still alive, but I think I still lean towards the dmg reduction is too powerful side. I wish the range was reduced to 3 squares instead of 6. And yeah, I loved triangle strategy, but I still don't like that the exp rubber banding was so crazy. I agree multiple times playing, but not on NG+. NG+ was really boring imo, I like just doing new playthroughs!
That's very true! I really loved having that movement increase, especially the final map that involves a lot of moving around, it was really nice. Plus I think that the missing spell slot kind of gets made up with the Brumal Strike and other combat arts.
@@lolfroob6665 I took your advice on going sword and shield for the Frontline action. I saw brumal was weapon agnostic but it never occured to me to shield up haha. Thanks for that. Keen on your thoughts regarding personal ability tier listing, character affinity tier listing etc. I feel like it's tough without NG+ to really make properly fleshed out build videos that are based on testing and not theory craft. But there's so much potential especially with magic spell affinity since you can have someone like Eris unlock bind but then go element mage and still have acess to bind despite it being a dark mage skill. Hoping for more lost eidolons content. Cheers.
That's awesome! I'm glad you liked the sheilded battle mage too. Yeah I'm working on a Magic video for hopefully today or tomorrow to come out, and then I want to work on the abilities next. But my biggest issue is exactly what you said of most of it being theory crafting because of no NG+. I would love if there was a post game or NG+ in this game! That's a cool idea with the magic swapping for Eris, I might test out trying to swap a bunch of characters around on my current playthrough!
Hey there! Great video, just started the game the other day and this helps wrap my head around a lot. I’ll be referring to it a lot as I play the game I’m sure. Question, you mentioned your hard mode playthrough running two Bishops - what were your other classes in your final team comp? Apologies if I missed it in the vid, I skipped around a lot. Thanks!
No problem! I had one of most classes except no berserker (axe master class) and no battle mage (hybrid magic/axe class). Then I had the two bishops and two sorcerers! I'm pretty sure Haha it's been a while. Hope you enjoy the game!
Interesting video, about the vanguards cavalry skill tho, the extra guard is nice but gotta keep in mind that beeing on a mount lowers both guard and accuracy to begin with, i cant remember the exact values but it might be just an offset to that penalty
If they were going to go 3Houses with it; they should have let us GRIND! As far as I can tell, you can train at the camp, but I have no clue if that's going to do much to let me make EVERYONE the actual class I want them to be. I am NOT fond of that. If I'm willing to put the work in on the characters; I SHOULD be able to curbstomp even the last boss. >.
I wonder how can I know which characters can have certain mastery go beyond lv 10, I saw it on tutorial that some character can reach 15 but then how can I know which?
As I understand it, all characters/all skills go to level 15, but it only starts going past ten once you get into a master class at level 30. Then your skills go past 10, and start unlocking some of the best skills/spells in the game.
I have to disagree with you regarding warlocks. Besides mages, I have never killed any other unit with one attack so dark magic (somnolence, silent and the area of effect that prevent movement) make sure that I have not to worry for some units in enemy turn. In hard/maniac the dark magic has saved me a lot of times, so much that I always used 2 dark magic user.
That's awesome! I was curious if that would be good, without the Elemental damage bonus, did he do good damage as a Templar? And same with Spears/Swords? I really want to try using the non-recommended weapons for classes, but always been too scared.
Nope! That happens a lot. 100% in a class just gets you the class skill. Go to the class tree to see promotion requirements. It's usually getting to a certain chapter in the story and having met the levels/ weapon requirements for promotions. So once you've hit 100% try switching classes and unlocking more skills if you have time before promotion!
hi, I have a question. Why some characters able to upgrade to fighter but why some characters upgrade to squire at the first upgrade? What is the point to make them different?
The biggest thing that determines your class upgrades are the Mastery Requirements (You can find them in the class tree) For Fighter, it requires Sword/Axe/Bow level and Leather Armor. For Squire, it requires Sword/Spear level and Plated Armor. So the equipment your units have will level up those skills! You can switch around to chase a class line that you want!
@@lolfroob6665 ty! so I need to swap Eden's armor to Leather armor and mastery it if I want to make Eden practice as Fighter, right? And how do I make Eden practice magic or able to equip Grimoire?
Magic is the trickiest one because you have to go back to commoner class to use it, you can't equip magic as a squire! But you will get a training ground later that lets you upgrade magic for Eden too!
You start off with only the magic books that come with your magic users, but when the equipment shop opens up you can buy common rarity books for really cheap!
Can anybody tell me which characters r lost according to the storyline? so I can avoid focusing on them. I was max befriending Leon and he's suddenly gone....
*Spoilers* I lost Leon, Robin, and Gilbert through story events. As I understand it, Gilbert at least can be saved by high friendship, maybe the other two can? I haven't tested on each of them yet!
Whichever level has 2 rewards instead of 1 on the affinity tab. That's always how you can tell if there are other good rewards because the first reward is always just a new convo!
Yeah you can now turn off the turn limits if you want! I haven't tested how that works with the experience bonus for turns remaining, but I love that they are adding options for everyone!
Hi, I have a questions.. recently bought it. For the Character's skill, is it lock by the Class the game recomended or we ca unlock it despite whatever class they are? For example, Leon ambush tactics is it only unlocked if he specifically become an assassin or it can be unlocked with any class hes in?
Hey! Most of the skills are tied to the class that you unlock them from, but there are a few character specific skills as well. I ended up not using Leon and getting him killed, so I am not sure on his Ambush Tactics!
@@jellydamgood Thanks! I don't have the best mic, so I have to amplify the audio when it drops but depending how editing went, I sometimes miss spots! Hopefully the audio gets better each video ha.
I'm honestly shocked to hear that! What about it feels underwhelming to you? To me, the vast array of different effects and animations plus the fact that it is quite strong are what make it seem great in this game. Compared to the physical weapons which basically have just one animation for anything they do. But maybe that's because I play lots of these types of games. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it!
@@lolfroob6665 You spend half of the game running with single target damage spells that are more or less no different than physical ranged attacks, but have limited amount of uses. The elemental interactions are either weak (lightning) or (often) redundant (cold). And all this enduring only for a couple of weak 3x3 mid range spells. They are only ever good at siege defend missions. Firestorm's setting bushes aflame property is useless even in side missions. Torrential rain is still weak with lightning combination, because of the halved damage and cross shaped spread. But is not as bad with Venecius' Lightning, which is the only half decent combination. Torrential Rain + Blizzard...I think water+cold might be bugged in this game. Either water doesn't always make targets wet or cold doesn't always freeze enemies or maybe both. Plus more often than not, 1-3 of the 3-5 people that will happen to line up for your AOEs will be bosses, which makes it a waste of AOE. And if you hold them back because of that, you won't really need them when there are only a couple of bosses left on the battlefield. Generally, the boss system sucks as well. Now if (let's take elemental one for example) magic was like that instead 1) Lightning spreads in a 3x3 shape around the target on a wet terrain, the target takes 150% lightning damage, the rest take 100% lightning damage. Lightning lowers damage output or defense of the target because of the shock, the debuff gets stronger on wet enemies. 2) Cold deals 120% to wet enemies on top of freezing them and slows non wet enemies. Frozen enemies have lower crit resistance. Single target cold spells have +1( or perhaps +2 more distance than the currently have) 3) AOE distances changed from mid to long. 4) AOE size is now adjustable between 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5. The central 3x3 area will always deal 100% damage, while the optional 4x4 and 5x5 will deal 80% and 60% respectively. 5) Single target spells damage is moderately increased. 5) The damage of all AOEs bar Firestorm is increased a little. Firestorm damage will be buffed considerably to have exceptional damage among them. 6) Firestorm now sets the ground on fire no matter if there are bushes or not. 7) Maybe make it so that AOEs will additionally ignore the bosses' 40% damage resistance that comes from being in a vicinity of the grunts around them. 8) Venecius powers grant more abilities. And stronger ones at that. It would be good. P.S. Now dark magic is underwhelming as well, but at least it has some spells I found to be interesting or pleasant: Banishment, Shackles and that Darkness AOE spell.
I love your ideas, they would be really cool, but I just think it would make magic way too op. Already in the game magic is the best source of damage, and the AoE spells/ lightning i think is perfect at what it is because it's not supposed to be solo killing a whole group (like with your damage numbers). The best is letting your other units one shot enemies they wouldn't have been able to before. And just comparing, magic is the only AoE you get in the game. So even if it comes late, it's not like you are missing aoe from other sources. So even when it's single target, you're doing more damage than physical, and then you get aoe eventually whereas physical does not. And I never ran out of spirits besides the final map so I like the balancing of the uses. I just wish there was a way to attack with the unlimited use Earthly Aura spell that they use to counter attack.
It might get a little too strong, but hey, it's magic, it's supposed to be somewhat OP. >you're doing more damage than physical Idk, I think I did with dark magic, but not with elemental one. >And I never ran out of spirits If by spirits you mean uses, then I did several times, especially early into the game

Can anybody tell me which characters r lost according to the storyline? so I can avoid focusing on them. I was max befriending Leon and he's suddenly gone....
*Spoilers*
I lost Leon, Robin, and Gilbert through story events. As I understand it, Gilbert at least can be saved by high friendship, maybe the other two can? I haven't tested on each of them yet!
@@lolfroob6665 How high of friendship with Gilbert?
Whichever level has 2 rewards instead of 1 on the affinity tab. That's always how you can tell if there are other good rewards because the first reward is always just a new convo!
btw, Marcelle leaves too, or rather stayed behind
Oh I must have had the requirements for her to come back she was only gone for a couple maps for me!
I want a mod that plays the monster hunter song in battle mode
did they patch the option to turn of the turn limit?
Yeah you can now turn off the turn limits if you want! I haven't tested how that works with the experience bonus for turns remaining, but I love that they are adding options for everyone!
Did any classes got patched since this video?
I haven't been back to the game to check, but from the changelogs I've read there haven't been massive class changes!
I ended up not using Leon and getting him killed, so I am not sure on his Ambush Tactics!
music is a little too loud
Thanks for the feedback! I'm definilely still figuring out the best way to make these videos, I'll try and fix the music for the next one.
@@lolfroob6665 hmmm I thought the music volume was ok. Although your voice does drop in some parts.
@@jellydamgood Thanks! I don't have the best mic, so I have to amplify the audio when it drops but depending how editing went, I sometimes miss spots! Hopefully the audio gets better each video ha.
hmm, like the bgm from trouble shooter
Right? I love listening to music from video games even while working.
I don't have experience with many turn based tactics games, but magic is quite underwhelming in this game.
Now if (let's take elemental one for example) magic was like that instead
1) Lightning spreads in a 3x3 shape around the target on a wet terrain, the target takes 150% lightning damage, the rest take 100% lightning damage. Lightning lowers damage output or defense of the target because of the shock, the debuff gets stronger on wet enemies.
2) Cold deals 120% to wet enemies on top of freezing them and slows non wet enemies. Frozen enemies have lower crit resistance. Single target cold spells have +1( or perhaps +2 more distance than the currently have)
3) AOE distances changed from mid to long.
It might get a little too strong, but hey, it's magic, it's supposed to be somewhat OP.
>you're doing more damage than physical
Idk, I think I did with dark magic, but not with elemental one.
>And I never ran out of spirits
If by spirits you mean uses, then I did several times, especially early into the game
