    Woo hoo! BART all the way around the Bay. I have a bike and no car, and this extends my daily range to an effortless 100 miles. Love living out here.

    An underground BART in San Jose would be very cool. But, realistically, add another 5 years to the decade delay - but, still, though - we need this. In 15 years I'll be 70 years old - I might live to see this.

    $377 is a good start, but we know this project will probably be in the neighborhood of $10 billion.

    I was literally just reading an article about how BART is currently financially unsustainable. This is a confusing development.

      BART is not extending or paying for this project. Is actually VTA paying for the project. The thing here is that the Bay Area Rapid Transit District does not extend to Santa Clara County but rather VTA is the one expanding the system and paying for it. BART will only operate trains in Santa Clara County, not mange or own things there.

      Well public works projects do not have to make money, just as long as they serve the public and BART is no exception. They are trying to serve more people in the bay as a way to serve the public.

    +NBCBayAreaNews *Thanks for the update.* Has the San Francisco (CA, USA) Bay Area Rapid Transit District any plans for Livermore on the Dublin/Pleasanton (so far) line?

      Plans had long been floated for an extension from Dublin to Livermore, but the most recent proposal was rejected by the BART board in 2018. On a 5-4 vote, the board sided with those who felt BART should focus on rebuilding and modernizing the existing system before it commits to building more extensions. Proponents, most of them Livermore residents, argued that the extension would lure commuters off of I-580 as well as encourage development of jobs and housing in the Tri-Valley region. Critics of the extension said BART needs to instead spend its money on rejuvenating the existing system and expanding its capacity. Several speakers said that BART owed Livermore an extension since residents had been paying sales and property taxes to the transit district for 50 years. But the majority of the board was apparently persuaded by those who argued that BART needs to clean up, speed up and modernize the existing system and plan for things like a second Transbay Tube.

    Who knows that a new line into the system under BART work be introduced into the system before 2030, (Purple Line, Orange line rerouted into the BART System) and also this is the future of BART of having 6 lines introduced the system under BART

    The big cost comes from doing everything not in house. Cut middle contractors and train your city crew to build and maintain its own infrastructure to cut down on cost. As for cost overruns, they are expected for any infrastructure project, not just trains, but highways too.

      @@moejoe1863 No, but what I am saying is that a lot of money is lost to greed. Every contractor involved in the project has to make a profit. But also, the "opinion on probable construction cost" reported in the news is also just a guess on how much a project will cost, which is almost often wrong.

    And no one even uses it in that direction. Should have built the bart to pitsburg antioch instead of that stupid e bart transfer shit. Antioch is the busiest most used line in the system
