I love these people saying "Uhh x299 is dead" rofl, these are people who have never owned x299, and have NO clue what they are talking about. x299 is an amazing rock solid platform. Things these same guys never talk about is AMD's microcode, it's about 3-5 years behind Intel's microcode. Even the baby 10900X out performs threadripper in memory performance. Even something like 3600mhz memory will net you over 110gb/sec with none of the latency or channel issues of chiplets. Threadripper surely has a place in the market, but it's not "the" solution for everyone or even most people. I do agree, that the X299 cpus need to be about $200 cheaper, but still for years and years the top of the line intel cpu was 1k. So i'm ok with that. What's a lot of fun is something like the 10900X, little 10 core, hits 5.0ghz all core overclocked, ripper in games, bangs out my msi 2080ti. And I paid a LOT less than 3950x and threadripper guys. I mean come on. I have zero use case for 16+ cores today. I mean great if I wanted to start a database machine or web server, yea 64cores baby, hella server. But beyond that? It's gonna be some extreme nitch case.
What I'm hoping is Intel keeps the desktop maxxed at like 10 cores, and just work on frequency. Most people have zero use for more than 10 cores (at least for today). I'd rather see 10 core cpus, that push single core performance, because that still matters a lot.I'd rather have 8-10 cores at 6ghz than 20 at 4.5. I think at some point ppl will realize that and this core count hype fad will kind of die off. High core count for servers, very very good stuff. For desktops? mild workstations? Not so much. But don't take me the wrong way, I love what AMD is doing and really hope they can develop a cpu that's not chiplet for the desktop that offers some serious frequency. 5ghz+ in the 8-10core range. Would be sweet. Honestly that would draw me to build one over high core count.

Make sure to disable the OLED if you're not using it, because it does burn-in after a couple of months.
You need to disable it via Windows using the Livedash or Armoury Crate app. There isn't a toggle in the bios (at least in the OG Deluxe II)...

I have a 9940X on the Deluxe 2 Prime and it’s an absolutely solid machine, oc’d to 4.2ghz. Only thing I hate was the price, as I was in a bad spot with a dead X99 rig and Ryzen 3 wasn’t out yet. Then again I needed Thunderbolt 3 so I was sort of cornered into X299.

On the bright side, X299 motherboards are dirt cheap on eBay and Amazon. Managed to snag a X299 Taichi from Amazon for $150 (open box but excellent condition). Paired with a 10900x it's the cheapest entry point into HEDT. I do wish AMD had released a 3950-type entry level processor for TRX40. They've left a gaping hole for Intel to fill.

There is a market for this platform, its is in a nitch, but I may be one of them. I currently am on a x99 strix and 5930k that OC to 4.7 all core all day long. I switch out to a x399 zenith, and a 1900x, and it had bad crashing issues in EVERY game, but never at the destop. Went a week like this, and finally, switch back to the old x99 setup, and got a 5960x to hold me over. My problem is, I have a bunch of M.2, and I need more lanes, But, new threadripper cpu's starts at 1400 for its base cpu. I was hoping they'd make an 12 or 16 core v3 threadripper. So this leaves me with, stick to x99 till I cant take it and upgraded to x299, with a new 10 core.....which are overpriced, but the motherboards, even second hand right now are CHEAP AF! so here i am.....

the lack of pcie lanes is the reason why i went TRX40 it's something most people don't watch for, most of the highly praised in reviews/benchmarks are unusable in real life, they plug 1 aio 1 drive launch bencmarks and "yeah that plateform/cpu is awesome !" truth is anything below HEDT the slots you see 3x nvme m.2 8x satas 3x pcie x16 those are for show you can't use them, you also can't do sli nor have 3 pcie cards etc...make a list of all you're going to connect to your computer and then read the manual you will see a lot of motherboards share ports and slots meaning if you plug 1 card into A...B and C will be disabled, and this happens even on TRX40 so you really need to read the manuals before choosing (worst case scenario I've seen plugging 1 M.2 disabled 4 satas !) I stupidly went from X99 to Z390 and ended up having to disconnect most of my stuff because "you have too many usbs connected" or "why did one of my sata drives disappear, even from the BIOS !?" thats what happens when you run out of lanes

@@arbiterodie7685 Or, their isn't any being put out to be sold, because Intel want to shift older gen CPUs at higher prices.
Edit - Additions to my original post:
I wouldn't trust Intels pricing until you see the actual product widely available at it's advertised MSRP, and that applies to any other product too.
Base purchasing decisions on the price you can actually buy an item for and not what the manufacturer suggests it should be available for.
Otherwise you promote the situation we are seeing right now where businesses will get away with some amazing low price offer, but not actually let you buy the item for that price for another 3+ Months after it's made available for so-called "purchase".
This is what Intel has done in this situation, and, AMD *may* have also done it with the Ryzen 9 3800X and Ryzen 9 3900X (it isn't as clear cut with AMD in this case as they definitely did have supply issues with TSMC, resulting from failure to plan ahead for the unexpected demand from consumers, and, TSMCs capacity being full so unable to take on any more orders from AMD until they moved the initial stuff out of the door and got other customers to switch to early 7nm+ nodes and to 6nm nodes.)

@@longnamedude3947 i own a 10980xe and i paid 1050$ after sales tax. intel isnt really selling them tho. and they have even asked reviewers to send their review (engineering) samples back. they are engineering samples and technically still intel property so they are able to get away with doing that. there is something more than intel not having the silicon available going on behind the scenes. intel has massive supply issues going on also. their security flaws have caused datacenters and server centers to need to buy 20-30-40% more server CPUs over night and the silicon that would need to be used in these 10980xe CPUs is one or more Xeons they cant sell to the data center, their more important client.

Just in case you don't read my post above. X299 is not dead. Because few RUclipsrs don't cover it Intel still beats AMD hard in many applications. Engineering (Catia, Maya), Architecture (Autodesk Revit) the whole of Music production and many more still run far better on Intel CPUs. For Music production most of us don't even consider AMD CPUs. It all depends on what you do.

    • @longnamedude3947
      @longnamedude3947 4 года назад

@@skoopsro7656 Yeah, Intels supply issues have been a problem for over a year now.
Personally I don't like how Intel are handling things, but as I won't be buying any X-Series Intel desktop CPUs for a while now my opinion doesn't really count for much, I've switched to AMD Threadripper on the desktop as for me it is the most appropriate option for my needs.

If AMD had more supply I could see them releasing a 16 core third gen threadripper CPU for $900-$1,000 to put the final nail in x299's coffin. The only reason I would ever consider x299 is if I didn't need 24-32 cores but I still needed PCIE lanes and decent single thread.
First and second gen threadrippers are non starters for many workloads because they leave a lot to be desired when it comes to single thread imo.

Vulnerabilities is what I'm hearing when you talk about the maturity of this platform. These CPU's are full of holes and their longevity has only allowed more and more of them to be exposed.

This feels like a huge step down from the X299 Deluxe; there's no way I could fit all my peripherals on this thing without resorting to hubs, one TB3 is fine, does anyone need two? And WHY did they remove the U.2 port?
The original was the perfect fit for my audio rig. Glad I got one before they completely disappeared.

I beg to differ about the idea of 3 generations of CPUs on X299. Personally, I fail to see the differences between the so-called 10th generation and the 7th, which could qualify the distinct numbering as "generations" instead of "revisions".

Music production is still Intel only. The gap between Threadripper and X299 in rendering is a margin of error compared to how hard Intel beats AMD in Music production. AMD rocks in Tiled rendering tasks, but falls hard on its face with anything real-time. Also, Thunderbolt support is a must for Music production. Yes, you can get it to work on AMD but there are glitches with various devices, and because it is unofficial support there is no one to help. Except Wendell ofc. :D AutoDesk Revit, AutoCAD, Catia, Maya still run much, much better on Intel CPUs. There is no more "One CPU to rule them all" like it was with 6950X. You pick CPU for the task that you are doing. For some things, it is AMD, for others Intel. Don't think Intel X299 is dead because AMD beats it in CineBench and Blender. You don't render Blender animations with CPU you render them with GPU. There are still many, many use cases where Intel is a far better CPU. As I have said it depends on what you do.
