    Nurses really work hard, sometimes harder than doctors. BUT there is no comparison to the hell a med student has to go through in order to be a doctor. It will s just unbearable.

      Even still. Doctors in the states are waaay overpaid. The Cartel has similarities.

      @@privateprivate1865 No, imagine having an average student loan debt of 400k in your profession, starting work at (at least) ~33, after extensive training of almost 80 hours a week, and people still think you’re overpaid

    I feel like they're paid to little ngl. If you go through 13 years of school and you start at 20, which is young, you're gonna be 33 when you become a surgeon. At 33 you're way past the age that the average person settles down and has a family. I dont think that's worth it at all just to get 200k a year? For me giving up the best years of my life i should be making at least $1m a year

      (Undergraduate) Medicine in the UK is generally 5/6 years so 23/24 is the minimum to qualify as a doctor.

      I dont think you understand the value of a dollar, 1m a year is absurd, investing even 50k a year for a decade would put you in the top 10% of the wealthiest humans on earth. Doctors don't need multiple mansions and supercars.

    I have a question what’s the highest payed doctor excluding plastic surgeon

    • @OllieBurtonMed
      @OllieBurtonMed  3 года назад

      Good question dude and the subject of a future video! In the UK all consultants (except GPs) are essentially paid the same basic rate so it depends how you look at it. Some specialties have really good private markets (plastics, derm, radiology etc) and some don't. But will go over it in more detail soon!

    You UK doctors are definitely underpaid compared to US doctors… At my job here in America, there are maintenance/mechanics that make about the same as you UK doctors… it definitely can’t be for the money you’re studying medicine in the UK.

    Is a GP and a neurosurgeon paid the same amount?

    • @OllieBurtonMed
      @OllieBurtonMed  3 года назад +2

      I think it will very much depend on each doctor. Neurosurgeons are paid a fixed base rate by the NHS, if I recall the base pay for a consultant is around £80,000pa. However that surgeon could also do private work if they wished.
      GPs on the other hand are more like contractual workers and practices operate more like businesses. From what I understand this gives GPs a bit more flexibility as they can work either salaried by a practice, or earn more by becoming a GP partner and doing more of the business side of practice
