    Favorite Frasier? - that's a tough one - don't think I have one, but one that stands out is the one where they go to the cabin; Niles wants Daphne, Daphne's friend want Niles, Frasier wants Daphne's friend, Guy the gay ski instructor want Niles, Daphne wants Guy and nobody wants Frasier!
    Great episode!

    I absolutely love Frasier. I couldn't stop laughing when Niles bought Martin these brown Italian leather shoes and he goes on to describe how a young aprentice in a hill-top cathedral in Tuscany makes these shoes then they ring the bells when he's finished. Roz as quick as a whip says, "There's a town in need of a bowling alley!"

    • @JJ21210
      @JJ21210 6 лет назад +3

      One of my fave lines: Julie disparages about psychiatry, and Niles calls Frasier into the kitchen:
      Niles: Oh, so you haven't gone deaf.
      Frasier: Why would I have gone deaf?
      Niles: Because that's the only good reason you sat there silently while
      our profession was assaulted like a drag queen at a tractor pull!

  • @OnGodspath
    @OnGodspath 9 лет назад +33

    My favorite episode I think has to be when Niles is dressed up as Cyrano de Bergerac... Roz is O, and they have the whole mix-up about who is pregnant.
    Close second is when they drive Daphne over the Canadian border.

      Many of the writers worked on Golden Girls.

    • @JJ21210
      @JJ21210 6 лет назад

      J Sharp: There is virtually no overlap. Of the 50+ writers who worked on Frasier, only Christopher LLoyd had a significant connection to GG (two other writers who co-wrote one ep of F had some experience with GG). The shows are markedly different, with GG being much more punchline-heavy and F being far more original, cerebral, and theatrical. A writer who excelled at one would be lost in the other. Please check the facts before you post.

      The re-runs are edited down to allow for more commercials; if you can borrow these DVDs from your library (or watch them on a streaming service), then please do so you won't miss anything. (Sometimes a truly crucial scene is edited out in the re-runs, as with an informal toast that Martin makes to Daphne the night before her wedding.)

    It's great fun how the buffoonery smugness and ego of the brothers are played against the normalcy and happiness of the others. Most touching is when Frasier drops the ego when he tries to get Niles and Daphne together away from doomed relationships and tells Niles he loved him showing what's in his heart without overanalyzing with his head.

  • @randy109

    I could never stand "Cheers" so it took me a season or two to fully appreciate "Frasier". Looking back I now believe that Frasier was one of THE most intelligently written and just plain funniest TV shows ever to air on American television. I will still watch an episode that I've seen a dozen times and literally Laugh Out Loud! Seinfeld is the only show to even come close to Frasier as a sit-com. Just my opinion. TV shows are like art, in the eye of the beholder.

    What makes a great show a classic isn't just 1 actor it's the chemistry between them ALL. This show was a rare beast in that everyone just worked so well together. I'm British and most of my favourite comedies are British but some from around the world also are in my classic list - Frasier is in my top 10 of all time from anywhere. I live in the USA now and so I'm surrounded by American comedies LOL but there's only a few that I call classics, Frasier, Hot in Cleveland, Big Bang Theory (Not all seasons are equal though), The Exe's etc ... I love that kind of comedy. The funny thing is, I'm not a fan of what others call Classics such as Friends and Seinfeld but we're all different - and thank god we are because that's what creativity is all about :-)

  • @jamesovenden3833

    The combination of British and American humour on this show was genius. All the characters were clever and could wise-crack in any given scenario but could also be the butt of the joke. I don't think I've seen a show, even a film, that was more expertly written. The amazing acting really helped bring that through as well.

    • @JJ21210
      @JJ21210 6 лет назад

      There is no such thing as ''British humour'' or ''American humour'' etc. You can't say that Benny Hill and Monty Python have anything in common just because they're both British. To paraphrase Eddie Izzard, there's a spectrum, with mainstream/broad comedy at one end, and surreal/avant-garde at the other.

    To quote a fellow writer from a forum where writers talk about writing (regarding my doubts as to if I'll ever become an author): "You have a Frasier quote as your signature. You'll be fine."
    It is simply the best written sitcom of all time, and recognized as such by the people who write.

    • @JJ21210
      @JJ21210 6 лет назад

      Please don't take this wrong way, but: If you want to succeed as a writer, then you need to be entirely concerned about the work and not at all about yourself -- not your ego, or your cleverness, or your need to be a writer. Writers write because they want to tell a story in a truthful (and if possible, fresh) way; the story, and human nature, are all that matter.

    Can't pick just one ep as a favorite, but almost every ep with the agent, Bebe Glazer, was superb. And every ep that was saturated in psychiatry -- Frasier's dream (series 3 or 4); F and Niles in couples counseling; F passing thru the stages of grief after he lost his job. And the 1st ep with Lorna (the transformation when she realizes that she's late).

    Favourite episode is when everyone is annoyed with Frasier when he can't lie under oath during Maris and Niles divorce. He's told to say "Not to the best of my recollection" which he can't do but when he's asked a question about Niles and Daphne he replies "Not to the best of my recollection" - it's a lot funnier in the show I've now realised lol

    • @bad74maverick1
      @bad74maverick1 8 лет назад +1

      I love that episode and it's one of my favorites. Not only hilarious but when Marty goes all serious on him too, both ends of the spectrum in acting. First funny "to save the world from a talking comet?" then serious, "Yes I lied under oath, now you might think I did the unethical thing but there's no doubt in my mind I did the right thing!"
      classic!

    • @DissociatedWomenIncorporated
      @DissociatedWomenIncorporated 5 лет назад

      That being said, science fiction keeps getting smarter and smarter. You wouldn't have had a show like The Expanse, or basically _any_ serialised sci-fi in the 80s or 90s, shows like Babylon 5 or Deep Space Nine were the (excellent) exception rather than the rule, and really had to fight to get the execs to allow them to have ongoing stories that weren't all tied up by the end of the episode. As for excellent comedy, well, we _at least_ still have Brooklyn 99, The Venture Bros, and Archer 😄 But growing up with Frasier really helped me get into smart comedy, which helps me appreciate all three of those series all the more. Speaking of the latter two, that's another benefit of the modern era - animated series aren't automatically seen as being for children. I suppose you have The Simpsons and South Park laying the groundwork for that attitude change towards the medium back in the 90s, but for all the praise that in itself deserves, they were rarely smart comedy.

    Wow, Kelsey Grammer's real voice is strange after watching Frasier too much.
    As good as he was in the show though, David Hyde Pierce as Niles has always been my favourite.

    This appears to have aired at the same time as "The Frasier Story" which is dated 1999.

      Dude... occasionally at work I catch myself in the midst of the mundane, and I'll start mumbling "da-da-da-do the Barracuda..," and people look at me like I'm insane.
