Molly Tuttle is such a breath of fresh air in every way. She is the entire musical package. I've always loved how country, bluegrass, and jazz players are playing lead with chord structure/melody in mind.
In addition to her killer technique, listen to all the subtleties in her playing. Incredible dynamic control in those crosspicked phrases. That's part of what creates that transcendental feeling. Wow.
gypsy strumming, blue grass cross picking, double pick slanting, she's got the pack...what a player ! I like jazz fusion and prog metal not my music at all but omfg , she nails all the the hardest techniques and sings like she doesn't care about
Yeah back when I played with a pick I studied Molly Tuttle technique alot. Surprisingly with cross picking you could get a polyphonic guitar sound with 2 or 3 line at the same time. Now I just use my fingers in a classical style
I've watched about half a dozen videos of Molly Tuttle just playing the guitar, this is the first I've watched with her singing too. Absolutely amazing.
I love how these bluegrass virtuoso players (and, of course, wonderfully expressive singers) like Molly, Sierra Hull, Nickel Creek (both as a unit and as individuals) have gone on to make this kind of beautifully put together acoustic pop, and deploying their insane chops in the most tasteful way.
Oh yeah, of course - but with Nuno/Rihanna or Guthrie/Dizzee Rascal or whatever it tends to be something added on for live performance, rather than something integrated from the beginning into the songwriting. I'd be really interested to hear this kind of tasteful integration of virtuosity into a (non-acoustic) pop format - could be really very cool!
Her technique has been amazing for a long time, and she still keeps getting more amazing. I highly recommend seeing her and her band, Golden Highway, live.

Whaaaaaaaaat the precision? Whaaaa? And the speed? I feel pretty embarrassed that I thougt this type of playing with only the pick would be great but too impractical to chase after. That was truely inspirational. Basically owned my weak ass aspirations, she did.

Magic is in right hand, excellent playing AND singing. Like those repeat now and then comping notes which make this very guitar sounding. She plays arpeggios but with every second note like three times. Arpeggios with tremolo picking ? Nice new way to accompany oneself. edit .She also hold pick on the second joint in her first finger. I like that too a pick is very securely that way. It won't slip.

Not like the typical bluegrass flatpickers at all. And the dynamics she gets are way more than just the speed so many of those guys go for.

I think generally in pop music u do find a lot of chop.. particularly live band.. Nuno plays with Rihanna live.. rocking it out..
