To be fair, I think that any biologists that would be in the star wars galaxy would essentially throw their hands up constantly as we already could fill a rooms just with what we know about our own worlds evolutionary history and biology, now imagine a galaxy with millions of worlds. The macroscopic life categorizing would be sheer insanity, and don't even start with microscopic lifeforms 😱🤯

I thought Zuckuss suited the insectoid "droid"(?) And 4-LOM suited the Gand much better and the name swap irks me to this day. When the Kenner lines came out you used to be able to send off the proof of purchase tabs on the packaging to get free treats such as weapons, rebreather masks, back-packs and even action figures, incluing a 4-LOM for which I actually received the Gand Bounty Hunter in the mail.

I doubt older Gand would go blind.
If it was similar to finger nails in material, then it probably grew like one too. Basically like an infinite roll of clear plastic growing across the eye from one side to the other in some orientation, and I’m guessing it would grow on one side, and then be dissolved back into the body on the other to reuse the nutrients to make more.
Basically the eye would always have a fresh covering the same way our finger nails work, except we cut or wear down our nails… just imagine another nail bed on the top that absorbed the nail back into our body to be used again. That’s how I imagine the eye covering works here.

There's a species of deep-sea tube worms here on Earth that draw oxygen from the surrounding water and use it, along with compounds from symbiotic gut bacteria, to make their sustenance. What if the Non-Breather Gands did this, but backwards? Instead of taking in gas to help make their food, they take in food, and have symbiotic bacteria that take some of the nutrients to release the ammonia that the Gand would need for metabolising? Just a thought.

    9:18
One of the things about the age of species in Star Wars (I think) and this is my hypothesis, listed ages are how old a species could be around without advanced medicine, cybernetics or high Force sensitivity, this doesn't necessarily mean that is the average age of the species but rather a lowballed minimum, like the average age of Skakoans is over 90 because almost all Skakoans are subject to high end technology and medicine and have few qualms with using it to extend their lives, without it they only live to be around 65. Another example is Arkanians who are very similar to humans, but because of genetic tampering and other means, they've extended their average age much higher than what it would naturally be.
Just something I like to ponder on sometimes, regardless, great video.

I wonder why the Republic didn't use other races that, without argument, are more powerful, intelligent, dexterous, utilitarian than humans. Sure, no one race would be all of these, but there are those that would exceed humans in many attributes.
Perhaps, it was some moral dilemma, like, as humans, the Jedi, generals of the Clone war, felt entitled to pervert and distort human genetics, but felt some trespass with delving in to the building blocks of other races.
Maybe, humans have the ideal mix of intelligence, strength, adherence, and utilitarian nature, being that it is usually more simple and inexpensive to formulate ideas for weapons, armor, and items and then build them for humans.
I dunno, I have a few theories, none more reliable or feasible than the other. Save the moral angle, that seems the most sensible obstacle. Most sensible, but also less likely. Humans, like I would think most any life, are capable of atrocities in the name of progress and survival of the "greater good".

8:52 The example you chose for the right side here isn't a healthy member of the species, they've been infected with the rakghoul plague. See how the eyes are missing? (Source: That's a reward skin from SWTOR's rakghoul plague event for the Trooper's Gand companion.)

I have a possibly interesting question that isn't related to this: are there antique vehicle museums in star wars? Like something similar to for example the smithsonian in the us or bovington in the uk..

Compound eyes? Did that Gand bounty hunter see hundreds of Vaders?

Technically yes. But he also knows there’s just one since he only sees in compound.

@@micahwright5901 I've done some research and compound eyes don't work like that. Think of each facet of the eye like a pixel on a computer screen.
The image wouldn't be sharp but compound eyes provide a wide angle of view (dragonflies can see almost a 360°). They also react to a change in scenery much quicker than a "camera" type eye like ours. That's why it's so hard to swat a fly.
Because of this Gands would probably be good at pod-racing since they could see in almost all directions without moving their heads and probably have good reaction times.
There is one other type of compound eye that trilobites had where it's made up of 50-100 tiny mini-camera eyes. The 50-100 images were probably combined in the brain just like how the 2 images from our eyes are combined into a single picture.
