- Today I'm checking out the Amazing extra fine, granulating watercolors from Daniel Smith that come in the Jean Haines' Master set. There are 10 colors in 5ml tubes, and I'm super excited to play around with these and share my impressions.

Many people showing DS paint say they’re fully full and will ooze a little when you first open so have a palette ready. And upon hearing that I had a palette open and waiting. But I still got a little on me. I think I should have has tooth pick ready so I could have used what’s in the cap for swatching as I filled the palette.

I’ve found that if I put new tubes into the refrigerator for a hour or so the paint comes out more slowly. Also a needle nose pliers make opening the tubes quite easily.
The only issue with freezing brand new tubes is sometimes there is a little separation in the tube, so you want to sort of uhh massage them to remix before you freeze otherwise you can get some goops
Just watching this now Aug 2022. I just ordered this set from Amazon (Prime) for $52 and I get it tomorrow. I’m so excited Woo Hoo! I’m a bit baffled that Opera PR122 is included since it’s so fugitive, but that’s what Jean Haines wanted and it’s “her”set. And I already have Holbein Opera, DS Cascade Green & DSAussie Red Gold, both gorgeous…but there’s still 6 more from this set that I don’t have,. It will be nice to have these 3 with the others too and I’ll put them all together in a half pan palette. 👍
Yes, it is definitely a fugitive color, but like you said, it was her set she chose to represent her and her style, and knowing her artwork, it wouldn't be a true JH set without that burst of hot pink.

They're definitely fun, but for adult coloring I sure love watercolor pencils

Moonglow is fugitive as well as the Opera Pink. It’s a beautiful color though. The red undertones will fade a bit over time as well. I take some of the lightfast ratings with a bit of a grain of salt. Not all the colors in this set are granulating. Off the top of my head, I know Nickel Azo Yellow, the Quin Magenta, and the Aussie Red Gold are non-granulating. Quins are great for skin tones. What a fun set of paints, looking forward to seeing you use them in future projects. ❤️
Yea I know not all are granulation ones. I def take Lightfast with a grain of salt with anything wayer soluble simply because the amount of water, mixes, etc effect it. I may have bought the Daniel Smith dot cards.... maybe....
@@ColorfullyOptimistic Mwahaha! I have the dot cards too. So much fun, and those little dots go a long way. Now you’ve got 268-ish paints to collect 😆
Also after you open the tubes if some paint comes out on ya like you were having happen in the video.. if you squeeze the sides of the tube at the opposite end, it will make a lot of the paint go back into the tube!! I had trouble with mine doing the same thing and after trying that it helps so much!

Daniel Smith Watercolors are all awesome! Try the Essential Set for mixing and make a chart... mind blowing!
I have quite a few tubes since this video, so I might have the essentials already in open stock form. I'll have to check and make a chart!
Beautiful set! Daniel Smith’s are awesome paints. For the leftover paint on your palette, you might want to keep an art journal or a sheet of watercolor paper nearby to put it on for future projects. 💜🤗

Love Daniel Smith paints. I started with the mixing set. I really enjoy the primatek colors as well(despite the drama)

Awe ty. I love the watercolor pencils more for coloring just because you need to get into the small spaces but tubes like these are great for backgrounds

Why not squeeze them into a pallet and let them dry.
So I actually like them right out of the tube. I work a lot from home, don't travel, and it is my ideal way to use mine :)
