Funny to hear Hartnett talk about Nolan without using his name. Hartnett could be an awesome Batman now. I dunno about back then.

The story was he didn’t want to do Batman Begins but was interested to do The Prestige. No coincidence Bale got the role in The Prestige.
Oh now that line about knowing Hollywood now he should have formed that relationship and make whatever movies it was makes sense. It's deeper networking in a way. So I guess perhaps if he had done Batman he would have gotten to do The Prestige.

Nolan wanted him for Batman.. He thought he was bigger than batman and didn't want to be remembered as batman but as an accomplished actor
The previous batman movies didn't really leave a good impression either, they were the George Clooney ones. While they were okay, Hartnett had no idea what the Nolan batman would become.
*He also would have made a very convincing Superman at one point. He also doesn't age*

What I gather: he’s saying that knowing what the Nolans went on to accomplish in the years since, he might’ve conceded to working on a Nolan film he wasn’t so interested in in order to maintain a Creative relationship with the Nolan brothers.
If we take his word for it, it sounds like Josh’s meeting with Nolan/ the Nolans weren’t definitive enough as a meeting for the part, so he feels it’s a bit of a stretch to say he rejected the role. The meeting sounded more exploratory, and honestly these aren’t that uncommon in the industry
@@lucxl.5796yes, you are right. Nolan tried to persuade him twice, but Hartnett didn’t want to commit to a superhero role. He did ask Nolan if he could do Prestige, but Nolan stayed with Bale. No hard feelings. Today, the Nolan and Hartnett families live near each other in England. When Nolan asked if he wanted to do a small part in Oppenheimer, Hartnett was there in a hot minute 😁
