Super genuine long-term review. I actually sold my A74 for the ZV-e1 months ago. The reasons were very much inline with your arguments: ultimate portability, fantastic for videos, and amazing light-gathering sensor. I would also like to add, my main usage is photography and 12mp is plenty for my needs, not to mention super small files (especially HEIF). I find myself shooting more and more videos because that camera is so much fun to use, especially with Dynamic Active Stabilization. Another selling point for me, was the lack of buttons. I find it much easier to not miss a shot with such simplicity, especially once I customized the center select to switch between the shooting modes i saved. For vertical content, i enabled 9:16 markers. This way, i can shoot in any ratio. Recently picked-up the switchpod and mantispod v2, along with iFootage carbon v3 with their horizontal-to-vertical plate. I have the Pgytech lock system (found it a pain to slide Falcam F38), very clever and fits Peak design’s tripod arca mount. Paired with 20 f/1.8, 40 f/2.5 and Sigma 85 f/1.4 is great for me. BTW, i was able to,reuse my Sony flash in 1/30s sync speed, with ND filter of course outdoors. Thank you for your video, very informative.
Awesome review, you told me everything I needed to know. My main concern was overheating and now I understand the issue. This camera is going to be a great fit for me. Thank you
I am highly considering this camera. Not cause of hype, but due to its size and the power it packs. It will mainly be a content creation camera for me. As of now I'm shooting on the FX30 and BMPCC 6K G2. Both great cameras and serve their own purposes, but I'm constantly filming in low light and both my current cameras are light hungry, so I believe the ZV-E1 will fill that gap. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the camera👊
I ran into the same issue. Used the ZVE1 to get some great content. My issues were the missing full size hdmi input, the 3.5 mic jack didn’t work. Sony fixed it but it was a hassle. Had other issues not powering off without removing the battery. My fx30 is just fine. I use the 7artisan 25mmT1.05 to get incredible results. I don’t miss the full frame sensor like I thought I would. I may get the FX3 or whatever follows the FX3
Very similar situation 😂 looking for a personal and small run and gun cam that I can put on a small gimbal For vacations and sub $2k clients. 😅 Fighting between a used A7Siii, used R5 and a zve1.
Love my ZV-E1. I have been using it for my channel since the beginning of last summer. Never any overheating issues. I recently used it for two 3hr long interviews with only a battery change in between. No overheating issues. I did buy the Ulanzi fan just in case but haven't had to use it. I typically run it with the Viltrox 14mm 1.8 or my Sigma 35 1.4.
Great video as always! I’ve been using the zve1 for over a month now and it’s definitely an amazing camera. Mine overheated for the first time today, funny enough not when recording for over an hour for RUclips but actually when filming an IG Reel. I was recording a couple of short clips for like half an hour and then recorded a longer take for 15 minutes and it just overheated. But good thing is that it didn’t take long to recover so we’re good for now! But yeah that definitely is something to keep in mind when using the camera - it’s not quite as reliable as the FX3 for sure.
Hey, this is a great video - I like it so "down to earth" with primary focus on "will this get the job done for you?". Thanks! Right now I have an A1for photography and an A7 IV that I use for either second camera for pictures when I'm only doing pictures (like from an event) and if I want to record video, I mount the A7 in a cage with mic, vmount battery etc. There's two reasons I'm looking to get a ZV-E1: 1 ) because it's MUCH better for video and autofocus because of the AI chip, than the A7 in my case (events are often very different lighting) and 2 ) I'd like to have a permanent setup with two bodies (A1 and A7 IV) with fixed lenses AND a third camera only for video (that can be primarily "living" on my DJI gimbal). Doesn't this make sense?
Really nice video! I’m on the fence about this camera, and your video came up perfect 🙌 but what about the lens, if you only could buy one. Would you recommend 16-35 mm Gii ? For a first, all round lens?
This Is a great informative video @JHawk and is really helpful in choosing a camera. I have a question, I’m a comedian, actor and filmmaker so I’m always on the go, which would be the camera for me, I do short films and for my comedy shows and vlogs? Thanks in advance.
Thanks man! If I wanted to record a 60 minute 4k24p podcast is that possible? Also for travel good for that and even maybe some fast moving sports photos?
I was unfortunately not invited to the Sony camp 😢 but now I have the small ZVE1 too and I really love it 😍 perfect b-cam to my bigger FX6 and top for holidays 😅 best cinematic greetings from germany
Still using an OG A7S mostly on a tripod. This thing caught my attention, but the overheating issue is a deal-breaker for me, I live in a hot environment and often record for extended periods. I think the A7SIII will be my next upgrade.
One problem with this camera, you can not easily lock exposure, focus and white balance which you will need for reveal shots (a pretty common type of shot). To do a reveal you need to set everything manually.
Thanks for the video man! Thinking about getting one of these. Question for you. Have you used this with an external monitor and if so, does the screen on the camera go black when you are recording with the monitor attached? I have that issue with my A7iii - the screen on the camera goes black when I hit record and would prefer it to be on. Know they fixed this with the a7siii and fx3 but wasn’t sure about tthis one
I picked one in October. I really like what they did with the camera and its got great features and ease of use. All that said, I sold it the other day because I'm looking to move to a more hybrid solution than stills or video priority focus.
Fantastic video man. I use this as my main recording camera for my videos. Coming from canon DSLR to this was massive upgrade Auto focus/picture is amazing Included color profiles are great As you mentioned the built in mic is decent and great for on the go My biggest issues are the overheating - happens at least once a week for me with my recording sessions. Battery drains crazy fast Ai autofocus - is cool but I wish I could adjust the focus sizes. There are a few prebuilt options but don’t work well for me. Mic port - this drives me nuts. I the mic port directly blocks the mic levels when you have the screen flipped forward. So I can never tell if I’m too hot or not Loving the camera though! Fantastic review update
now since the canon R5 II has released which is a hybrid camera with 8k 60 fps ...it is time the Sony FX3 II comes around....lets see then how things stack up.....nice to see👍
I was set on the ZV-E1 before hearing about the overheating issues, being in Texas, this is a huge issue for me. So I've decided to bite the bullet and plan on picking up an FX3 in the next month or so!
If I want to shoot vertical video with the ZV E1 and I don't want to hand hold it and maybe use a gimbal. Since it doesn't have the hole on the side like the FX3, what would I use?
Waiting for a future where everything in the A9III is in this small compact camera, but with more dynamic range, better noise performance and doesn't overheat. I think it will be sooner than later.
switching back and forth between the Photo/video/S&Q modes - will it keep the settings of each? for example a higher shutter set for photo etc... the demand for Hybrid is up...
Hi - you didn't mention the stabilisation, is that because you don't really use it. I was going to pick up a ZVE1 to compliment my A7R5. The main reason was actually the stabilisation especially dynamic stabilisation, because I hate gimbals. Quick note: your the first review Ive watched not going on about vlogging - at last no walking and talking nonsense, and instead a emphasis on content creation, well done 👍🏻
Been eying this camera, but just don't see a need for it... I got the A7RV and A7IV and just picked the the Oslo Pocket Three For Vlogs, and quick videos
Can I ask a question? IF pairing the ZV-E1 with an Atamos V recorder, am I right that I can't record prores 422 in 4K 60 because the ZV-E1 doesn't output this from the HDMI ?
Currently rocking the Sony A6400 with Sigma 16mm f1.4 but really looking to get the Sony A7IV 33mp for that perfect hybrid setup for my photography & videography, but waiting on that damn price to drop haha

Just came across your channel and binged a dozen videos. Love your stuff!

Rocking with the A7IV but have been wanting a B cam and something portable.
How has the white been holding up? Any stains or smudges?
Got the a6700 today. Hate it cause the stabilization is so bad. I would imagine this will be the same when it comes to IBIS?
It’s pretty solid imo!
The stabilization is amazing, but to each is own
I've been loving my ZVE1, been an absolute game changer! and 4K webcam has been great for podcasting! :)
It really is!
But woudlnt it stop podcasting after 10 mins or so?
@@AgentOnTube Nope! ive managed to record in 4K 24fps for over an hour! :)
@@CreativeCaffeinePodcast I just returned my ZV e1 1) becuase it was heavier 2) it overheated and stopped every 10 mins

Video heavy creator here & mainly taking pictures on my phone… I currently have a A7C, do you think it’s worth upgrading to the ZV-E1?
Only if the a7c isn’t doing what you need!
Thanks for the great video. Question. Why would I go with this camera instead of a Sony a7c?
Different sensors. 7c is more of a hybrid, this is video dominant. For example there’s a crop on 60fps on the c. Not this one
I’m asking the same question with the a7CR the crops is 1.2 still have small form factor, no heating issues, better hybrid ok lose the 120 fps
Have the exact same setup ZV-E1, 20mm, ECM-M1. And the WHITE IS CLEAN
