  • I have the Outrbacker Stove fitted and in action! I am really pleased with this as it provides a nice amount of free heat plus I can cook for free. I am carrying on with installing insulation on internal surfaces of the boat above the waterline. I am on my last roll and need more to finish so I will have to wait until pay day.
Next episode will feature how I remove soot build up from the stove and flue plus how to spot the warning signs, I will also be wiring up a couple more solar panels and exploring how on Earth I am going to fit the wind turbine!
The temperature is dropping now in this part of the world. Lowest temperature so far has been 4 degrees Centigrade outside and about 7 degrees inside.

Thanks. I am still trying to find ways of keeping as much of that warmth inside the boat!

Yes i find that a problem with small stoves the chimney is too small so i put a 1" bigger chimney in in hopes that would solve the problem!! Will not know till fall if this works but I think it will 🙂

I will try making the flue longer this winter. First I have to wire brush and paint the stove top oven space and front, plus replace the fire rope around the firebox glass!

@@sailingoctopot The real problem is the underrated exhaust for the stove!! 1" bigger will let it breathe and you will not have to clean it as often just saying Cheers 🙂 Also i recommend not to paint it they have a black latex paste that you can rub on and not have to deal with the toxic fumes 🙂

I got mine from Tesco in UK. The thing to watch out for is that is states "keeps hot for 24 hrs*. I have used half the flask full of water after 12 hrs then 24 hours later, when I go to refill, the water is still hot enough to make a cuppa!

Wow. I am envious of that stove.
How does the chimney/flue exit the boat while preventing water ingress?
I remember how it was built on Big Red.

Hope it brought back some memories!. I am making some adjustments to the stove which I will feature in future episodes. The flue goes through the deck and is sealed by a silicone flashing kit. I have to remember to put a tin on top of the flue when not in use to sort rain getting in. It's OK for now but will need work to make it water tight at sea.
