Got this for my husband and was told it was very simple to connect. Haha I am not tech savvy at all so a family member connected it but audio would only come through the left. I searched and came upon your explanation and inserted the red and white to the cable box and voila! Of all things it works. Thank you so much for putting this out there for people like me.
Hello, first time ever seeing your account. I discovered it because I saw you at a stop light today and saw the logo on your car, so I looked it up. So far I'm liking the videos! Keep it up😊
I just purchased these today...(April 2023).....my TV is about a year old, however, I see this video is 2 years old so things do change. My point is.....You are correct that plugging in the cable will disable the output of the TV.....UNTIL....I went into the TV setup and was able to select both TV output AND headphone output. Now I can listen on the headphones while my wife listens at a volumn level from the TV that only she and dogs can hear. (smile) (quick edit......I should also point out that her selection of volumn from the TV has no impact on my adjusted volumn on the headset. In fact.....she can mute the output of the TV and I can still listen perfectly.)
Thanks for the info, you have a better explanation of the hookups than the Best Buy associates told me. Let me just add a few things that I went through. My Samsung tv has rca jacks but you have to use settings to set for tv to audio and you have 4min to do this or your transmitter will shut down! So your tower light goes out and the power only works for the charger! How do you turn the power back on, you have to hook your audio to an active output! Turns out my tv RCA jacks were not working! So I hooked up to the dish network receiver and now everything works perfectly, to separate independent channels. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! One more thing, the charger tower explained, no matter what the battery level is if you have it on the charger and you remove it after 2 seconds or 6 hours it starts another 7 hour cycle before the red light goes off!
I am returning mine as i do not have a cable box...so either headphones or tv speakers is the set up. I dont want to rnr the jack everytime i wanta use them
Keeping the headphones on your ears too long, no matter how low the volume is, if you keep them on too long, yes, they damage your hearing, but I don't care, but it's up to you ahahah
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I am so glad I found your video on RUclips! You helped me by mentioning to plug the headphones into the cable box! 😊 I spoke to numerous support agents online from Best Buy and Samsung and not one of them mentioned to plug the headphones in the cable box. You are a lifesaver!!! Aloha!
I got these for music production. Because unlike Bluetooth headphones, RF headphones have no latency or sound lag. The sound quality is only just acceptable, but the design is poor quality. The main problem is that if there's no sound for a minute, it goes into power-saving mode. And it only wakes up when you play something for 15 seconds. It's supposed to wait 4 minutes before turning off to save power, but it doesn't wait that long. And the amount of time it waits seems to be decreasing, while the amount of time it takes to wake up seems to keep increasing. It's annoying. And then there is the build quality. The cushions on the headband came apart in one month, and the charging stopped working in 3 months. Now, I take the batteries out and charge them in a battery charging device that I got. Before this fails altogether, I'm trying out low-latency Bluetooth. I've ordered an Avantree Audikast Bluetooth transmitter with AptX LL, and compatible Sennheiser HD350BT headphones, also with AptX LL.
Which headset would work with a Sony Bravia xbr55x81. We have one spectator hard of hearing and one who would like to use the tv speakers. No cable box?
New sub here. I found your video helpful for the Sony WH-RF400 Wireless Headphones. 🎧🔉🔊🎶 I purchased this set approximately 1 year ago on Best Buy's website. Because of the insanity caused by the C19, hooking-up headphones was the last thing on my mind. Finally, I had to find a video to help guide me, and your ytube video helped a lot. Thank you very much! 👍
@magnum you deserve my subscription, and i will tell you why. I am looking for some headphones for my granfather. He is 92 years old, and he has trouble listening the tv. So i found this video and in your video you ansewr my most important question. How to do for all of us can listen the TV and you are right, plugging the transmiter on the tv box. Thank you so much fo the video it was really usefull for me and other people.
I like Sony with a passion but, if you want to hear some good headphones... I've talked to a couple of different people that put their Bose on the shelf for a set made by, Mixcder. I bought a set of the Mixcder headphones and I'm blown away. They are by far the best sounding headphones I've ever heard. I tried them on with the noise canceling on while I was on my riding mower and I could not even hear my mower running while cutting the grass. It has the option to turn on or off noise canceling. They are Bluetooth but can be wired. I have a Bluetooth receiver going in to the TV in our bedroom so I can watch TV and not disturb my wife while sleeping.
Sounds like you've got it covered! Thanks for providing another option for those who might want to shop around and check all the possibilities. It's good when you find the perfect fit.
Hello. And thanks for all you do ! I’m having problems connecting my WH-RF400R’s to my Acer Aspire Laptop. I’ve done all the Microsoft Settings steps but it’s just not cooperating. Any ideas? -Michael
Good question. I'm not sure how you would hook that up without some kind of additional audio output or signal splitter. Maybe someone else can chime in with more info.
If you have cable tv box, plug the charger into the audio output of the cable box. That allows you to hear through the headphones and also doesn't disable the TV speakers.
That's a great question. Without having them in front of me, I don't know the answer. I didn't cover that since this item uses a rechargeable battery and it's not something you would need to change very often. Sorry I can't be more help than that, but I would suggest looking the headphones over and see where the battery is located. It may be in the charging base but without checking it, I can't say that's the case. The next time I look at them I'll try to find an answer for you.
Question in Oct ‘23: I have been through 3 sets of these phones and the headphone on the side with the on/off switch always stops working. The headphone on the side with the volume works as advertised. Why the headphone failure on this “left” side? SONY provides ZERO support! Thanks!
Williamterry -- I have no idea why that would be happening. We have had no issue whatsoever other than having to buy a new battery. The old one just quit recharging after a year or so and only lasted an hour or so after being on the charger overnight. I'm not an electrical wizard but it sounds like something isn't making good contact, but I'm not sure. If it was me, I might cannibalize one of them that's stopped working and see if you see anything that's come loose. I'm sure that's not much help, but you might try taking it back to the store (if you didn't buy it online) and see if anyone there in their "Geek Squad" or whatever can provide some help. For the price you paid for them, they shouldn't be doing that. Also, it may be an issue with the transmitter that plugs into the TV. Or the wiring that connects it. I'm just throwing out any possible failure points here that come to mind. Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck. Let me know if you get it figured out or get any help from Sony. I'd like to know.
I don't think so. You need to physically connect the transmitter/charger to the audio source. You can plug it into your TV headphone output (and mute the tv speaker) or into your cable box audio line and keep the tv speakers active along with the headphone. Volume adjustment on both in independently controlled.
They're great until the ear pads fall apart. I tried everywhere trying to find replacements. It allows the compressed foam to push the headphones away from your ears which lowers the quality. It's too bad because I really like them.
Hello thank you so much for this video, I have a problem we hooked everything up and they’re fully charged however, there is static noise in the headphones, we tried changing the channel in the back of the charging box there white button and at the same time I pressed the channel changing button on the headphones but nothing I’ve tried is going perfect sound it’s very staticky to the point where it’s extremely annoying and I’d rather watch i the tv and listen to all the background noise that the family makes 😅 did you encounter this at all, any tips you can give me?
I think there is some type of button for "auto tune" or something like that (??) Does this happen on every channel you watch? There are a couple of other buttons but I can't recall what they are. Are you very far from the TV when this happens? Or is there any other equipment running that might be adding some interference? Sorry I can't provide any quick fix.
Yes the staticky problem is very annoying. That's because the connecting points of the wires are very sensible. You have to play with their positions very patiently until the sound is perfect, both sides of the connections misplaced cause the static and not the channels. They must rtest on a rug and not on a place where they are easily displaced.

The box instructions say to charge the rechargeable battery before using but it didn’t come with a charger. How do you charge the battery?
You put it on the charging unit that plugs into the wall. It's the little tower that it rests on for charging.
