My favorite version of this song... the original. Schwarz' slowed-down remake, with deeply meaningful lyrics, is lovely and touching; but it's this original version that brings a hopeful smile to my heart. Awesome song!

A fitting song for this time of year, remembering about grateful. It is indeed a beautiful song that makes reminds me that even in despair we are loved by God.

the composer Stephen Schwartz performed this song on his piano after 911 in October 2001 at a performance at Ohlone College. He likened it to a rising from the ashes from ground zero. It was moving in 2010 as it was in 1973 and is now. It is very hopeful song.

This is my favorite song from the movie. I fell in love with the score from this "idiotic absurdity." I don't believe a cynic could appreciate the beauty of this celebratory production!

In the new Broadway revival, this is done as a mournful solo ballad by Jesus (Hunter Parrish). Lovely and sad. I really love this sweet version from the movie. Great scene.

"Come sing me sweet rejoicing/Come sing me love
We're not afraid of voicing/All the things we're dreaming of
Oh, high and low/and everywhere we go
Chorus: We can build/A beautiful city Yes we can/Yes we can We can build/A beautiful city Call it out/And call it the city of man"

      We don't need alabaster/We don't need chrome
We've got our special plaster/Take my hand, I'll take you home!
We see nations rise/In each others' eyes
      (Chorus)

Jeffrey Fairfield You couldn't be more right! I love this movie. I remember when it came out at the theater I was working in a cinema and we had droves of people. Back then was the Jesus freak revolution. I wonder how many Jesus freaks remained Jesus freaks?

This wonderful song brought me to tears today. I was about 15 when I saw this and seeing it again made be think about how innocent and hopeful I was and how innocent and hopeful the whole hippie movement was. It breaks my heart to see how the world is going, but the good feelings are still out there, creating good things.

@CaletheMrActor i was part of a Godspell performance here in arizona, and this song is actually sung twice. once at this tempo and feeling towards the middle, and again at that point you're talking about as a reprise. maybe your director decided to opt out from the first?
