Fantastic tribute and NO it’s not the original lineup people! It’s a miracle that this band has held it together all these years. I am so fortunate to have watched LS perform this tune in 1974 one of the first times they ever performed it to the public at The Flying Dutchman club in North Charleston, SC. Praying for Gary Rossington who has pneumonia right now.
i remember so well the flying dutchman when i was a social a social worker. 1980's . being from houston, n. charleston, sc was beautiful. if remember correctly, the club was not too far from the water. i know the flying dutchman had some great seafood. i was in my early 30's. now, i'm 69 with a stroke.
Saw them in 1977. Fabulous band and so well rehearsed. There is only one man that can play Free Bird and that is Allen Collins, the man behind the solo. The most under rated of all members. He was the focal point with his antics on stage and his total control over his guitar. He was born to play. I later saw him with RCB and he was just as brilliant. Dale Krantz should be singing morel--a great voice. I saw Skynyrd a few times from 1987 (when the Georgia Satelites really outplayed Skynyrd for sure)) last time I saw them was 2018. IN my opinion, Johnny talks to much, and acts like a juvenile cheerleader by the things he says to the crowd. Very cliched and smaltzy. I would not say they sold out, but I would say they should retire. The original Skynyrd was more about just playing the music as it was recorded. Ronnie was an outstanding band leader and song writer, but to me, not the focal point, which was Allen Collins.
I'm not trying to start a verbal fight but I'd say that the lynrd skynrd band sacrificed more than just their fair share with the plane crash that almost killed all of them
oh god another tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist. how many of these morons exist? it's like they just cant hell but try to make everything into some grand conspiracy it can never just be an accident or something. they have to act like theres something nefarious behind anything that happens. it gets so old.
Be thankful it's still being kept alive for more generations by Johnnie and Gary, a brother and original founding member, and others who are great additions to fill their roles.
@Joe Skwara- Agree. I can't watch this again. I'm an older guy. Life's memories associated with This. Gigged drums for years. Played 3 steps hundreds of times. Learned guitar playing "On The Hunt." My first band in highschool we worked out "Saturday Night Special." I won't watch this again.
So you had to pass through Sweet Home Alabama on I-10. Welcome to Sweet Home Alabama welcomed you coming and going. Just doesn't get any better unless you detoured through Orange Beach LOL!
I had the privilege to meet Rick Medlocke in the Tallahassee, Fl. airport a couple of years ago. Went over and spoke to him a little and I have to tell you he is not some snobby rock star. One of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. Proud to see them still going! Give 'em Hell Skynyrd and Let that Free Bird Fly!
Allen Collins girlfriend at the time Cathy got it started with the opening line...If I leave here tomorrow would you still remember me??? She asked that of Allen during an argument while sitting on their front porch. The rest is History!!!!!
If you have a problem with flags of any kind then go fly your flags where you want we live in America. Fly your flags my dad fought for this country. Speak your mind
I saw the Original ,1 time I was young and just happened to have that chance, later on, after The crash I saw every attempt made to put this back to some sort of working tribute, finally when Johnny came on it happened, though he could Never be Ronnie ,he did his 100% best every single time he too the stage , I was blessed to meet johnny, to Billie Powell , Leon Russell, and the rest of the survivors in Mobile Alabama, We grew up on This , like many more it's not just Music , its part of us and our lives , RIP All Who Perished , Fly High Free Bird , Fly High Brothers ,,,
The century change, they gave the Greatest Rock Song of all times to Zeplin for Stairway to Heaven, don't get me wrong, thats a Great Song, but in my opinion of playing 48 years, Freebird is the Greatest and always will be!!!
I understand Ronnie's brother still playing to keep The sound alive, But honestly folks with not one original member left this is no more now than a tribute band. No different than Brit Floyd or dozens of other bands out there. I saw the originals in 75/76 . That is enough for me to remember, and I do remember those two kick ass shows in Cincinnati.
I always called this song the national anthem in a way because we lived everyday and still do some 40 something years later in reference to this song and it still will make me have chills and move me just the same today as well as back then.
If my mind serves me correctly, Rickie Medlocke was an Original Member though he left the band in 1973 I believe, before they became well known...Damn they still sound good though.
I believe so. I know hewas technically a part of the original line up, but i think he was on the drums and then decided to form his own band (Blackfoot). Theres that Skynyrd documentary on netflix that goes into it a bit more.
He was the drummer on the Muscle Shoals Album, which is kind of a band demo of what would become their first album. So screw the haters in these threads, with two original members, this is still Skynyrd.
@@toddfoster828 Right on Todd, they're keeping Ronnie's legend alive and sharing it onward beautifully to future generations. There will always be trolls to who nothing positive is good enough.

Times long gone by 😥
Once upon a time it was the land of the free....but at least the music reminds us how great these times have been
Skynyrd is the greatest American rock band of all time. There is nothing even close.
I'm not trying to start a verbal fight but I'd say that the lynrd skynrd band sacrificed more than just their fair share with the plane crash that almost killed all of them

You're not the only 1 Johnny that lost a brother ,that day,we all did when we lost Ronnie 🕊, He will fly on forever ,for all of us , R.I.P.
RONNIE .
They did lose a lot of band members but most of them were of other causes later on after the crash
They’re the GOAT
Great music, great band, excellent musicianship,
NOT LYNYRD SKYNYRD!!!
Be thankful it's still being kept alive for more generations by Johnnie and Gary, a brother and original founding member, and others who are great additions to fill their roles.
Damn I get choked up hearing this because it brings back so many life memories. It’s part of the sound track of my life.
Indeed, I feel ya

Keeping the music alive….big smile
I was at this concert. We live in NW Florida couldn’t pass up seeing them live in concert. Such a great show and a .38 special bonus to boot.
So you had to pass through Sweet Home Alabama on I-10. Welcome to Sweet Home Alabama welcomed you coming and going. Just doesn't get any better unless you detoured through Orange Beach LOL!
Keeping the greatest music alive !
So do hundreds of cover bands, most of whom sound better
Beste Live Band ever

Thats the way the southerners are: musicians, not stars.
I was there . Still the best showmen ever to be on a stage .... Even after 50 years ....
The Greatest Rock Song 🎵 ❤ of all times
Allen Collins girlfriend at the time Cathy got it started with the opening line...If I leave here tomorrow would you still remember me??? She asked that of Allen during an argument while sitting on their front porch. The rest is History!!!!!

Greatest rock and roll ban ever
In my opinion, Lynyrd Skynyrd defines Southern hospitality.
Great tune.
Greatest rock band ever!!

I love it. I also grew up with music. Not the original band. But damn good.
The century change, they gave the Greatest Rock Song of all times to Zeplin for Stairway to Heaven, don't get me wrong, thats a Great Song, but in my opinion of playing 48 years, Freebird is the Greatest and always will be!!!
Free is free but now without sacrifice❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
I would’ve cried if I were there. This songs good 😢
I sure miss Powell on the piano.
May not be the same line up but still a fantastic beautiful song...

Brilliant, don’t you just love folk music.
everytime i hear this i get choked up
I agree them & led Zep were the best. They were awesome!
All the originals gone except Gary and Artamus, Rest in Peace Freebird
Rip Gary 😢❤
Saw them a couple of years ago in Orange Beach. They were not able to sync up Ronnie to the band. Nice to see it worked this time.
I always called this song the national anthem in a way because we lived everyday and still do some 40 something years later in reference to this song and it still will make me have chills and move me just the same today as well as back then.
great stuff
They're a great tribute band. It's now just for the moneyBut I still like the music.

This is not a band, it's a traveling shrine.
A Shame Bless THIER HEART 🙏🌹👍🇺🇸😔
I was 5 girl in 1977
And if it wasn't for Mr Powell, the Song may have never happened
Event hough it's not lynyrd skynyrd let's keep alive
Who knows whom Ronnie wrote the song for ???
Does Gary play with them anymore ?
I think he is having heart surgery so he is being filled in for right now
3:29 bottem right of the triangle
it was all a jojo reference after all
It be better if Ricky just played and stopped trying to be Alan. There is but 1 Alan Collins!!!
