- It began with Apple - then Facebook, Spotify and RUclips - joining forces this week to kick the conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his Infowars site off their platforms. But not Twitter - whose co-founder Jack Dorsey insisted that Jones had not violated their rules, declaring he would not 'succumb' or 'react' to outside pressure.

I have listened to him more intently and have fact checked not only his guests but his opposition as well and find him to have many valid perspectives despite the pejorative and sometimes impulsive, unguarded approach. There is just as much false news and hate speech coming from the other major networks, politicians and groups like the WEF and during congressional debates. Certainly in countries that have parliamentary debates one hears more vicious personal mud slinging coming from our elected officials that goes uncensored with only an occasional gavel and order warnings.

That's why I don't like it when people call Alex Jones a shill. It's a very unfair statement. Few people have brought us as much inside information as Alex Jones. And as you say - he's gone out of his way - protesting outside Bilderberg meetings - even when they were in London. He flew over just to protest. He has a lot of courage. Now almost every sucesfull conspiracy guy on television might hold one or two truths back. That's so that they live and don't get killed. But he tells us 80-90 % of what he knows and that's a dam sight more than what his accusers have given us.
I mean he also kind of cruelly said Sandy Hook was fake so that the parents are being harassed now by his fucked in the head followers who take him seriously. He knows he has crazy fans, just because he can say things doesn't mean he should and doesn't exempt him from the one thing he seems to think he's above- consequences. I mean how evil do you have to be to pick on parents who lost their children in a school shooting. He's also adding to the desensitization of people towards shootings. Instead of making fun of the situation he could have done something along the lines of accusing the shooters of being from Russia etc. Anything else but how he handled it and it's not like the companies who banned him did it without evidence. I mean he minded on twitter so he hasn't been kicked but he disobeyed the rules elsewhere. So I mean I don't feel sorry for him. He made his $ while the getting was good and now the gravy train has moved on. So, unless he's been kicked from twitch too, he can go there.

I always facepalm when someone starts by saying " I'm all for free speech BUT... " Then proceed to call for someone to be silenced because they disagree with what they say.
I would prefer to be able to listen to and be offended by anyone or anything I choose. If these "platforms" or "publishers" take content away, they may find their users may also go elsewhere.

I'm not in favour of government over-reach but seeing what YT, Google, FB etc are doing I would vote "YES" to breaking these big corporations up in order to create a free market within social media. Right now they have a monopoly and as such patrons cannot direct (in a democratic way by taking their business elsewhere) the business culture or online political landscape withing social media. A platform is not the same as a publisher. Publishers decide what they publish. So, the youtube (google), apple, etc., are now publishers? They wouldn't have been "seen" as "allowing" anything if they had of remained neutral.

No, private companies are NOT entitled to do whatever they want. They advertise a service, and they need to provide THAT SERVICE. The service they advertise is a FORUM. They then use their existing forum to sell ads. They do not have a right to lie in order to create a forum, then manipulate the forum to sell ads.
The new ground they are breaking here is that the service they provide - the forum - is not the direction from which their money comes. But no, they do not have some sort of civil right to LIE to create a forum, then delete whoever they want FROM that forum to make it easier to sell ads.
That is not a FORUM. That is an edited, publishing business. And they have for years insisted that is not what they are about.

The 1st Amendment covers free speech but, if you yell "FIRE!" as a prank and people get hurt, you are liable.
The 2nd Amendment as well, has limits. It may grant the right to bear arms but Brandishing is a separate issue.

RUclips is not a federal institution and they withhold the rights that we agree to when we sign on to their services. Just because they let things slide, doesn't mean their agreement is not binding. If a user breaks the rules and they pull the plug on them, it's a pretty simple situation. Same with FB, the services are provided at no cost but their rules still apply. Jones got ridiculously crazy with all the contorted faces, gurgling and screaming, but when he started making more and more threats and kept encouraging physical violence, YT apparently opted to pull the plug on him. If people can't wrap their heads around that, who can convince them otherwise. Anyhow, the last thing we need is another demented preacher pushing hysteria and fear mongering, but I digress.
