JVC always has been a great camera. I used to work with the old model GY-HD200, at the time when HD cameras were first released. I remember we shot a music video on green screen, the singer had long hair and he asked us to move the hair against the wind. We tested some different cameras, but JVC was the only one which resulted in a net and clean chromakey...
Now, 5 years later, I love my LS300. That super35 sensor coupled with MFT mount is so amazingly useful. While you mentioned zoom with primes, you didn't mention that the same rocker also operates the power zoom in both Panasonic and Olympus power zoom lenses. I love that I can use all MFT lenses, but also APSC and full frame lenses, and use both smart adapters and speedboosters to get the ultimate versatility. It is a unique camera with capabilities no other camera possesses.
Hi! Does this camera have good enough autofocus with some kind of lens, to be able to record video podcast without worrying about that subject is out focus? Would be greatfull for your answer, saw your coments in couple of videos about this camera :)
@@FATBS I use manual focus mostly, and manual focus is always needed with vintage lenses, adapters and speedboosters. With AF MFT lenses, the AF is contrast detect and is typical of CDAF systems.. This camera is more of a cinema camera, and so most people using it are using manual focus anyway.
Quick questions: Do you know what this video encodes in? H.265? Also, If i have an external viewing monitor to see what the JVC is looking at, would it be possible to manually focus the camera with the remote (if it comes with it)? I have a Canon Prime lens. Do I need an MFT adapter for it? I like to use this camera as my a-roll camera for my talking head videos.
Blimey, this video is a bit late to the game, but welcome anyway. I've been using the LS300 for a few years now. The focus peaking is the best I've ever used, and prime zoom is priceless. It's a steal, just don't expect a 10bit RAW upgrade path etc etc.
Great review Kristian.. Have a friend who wants to see one of these for under 15h with lens(s). What I also noticed that its very good with anti-aliasing. Looking forward to working with the camera later next week!! The ability to zoom in and out with a prime lens and control vignetting are really cool features that other manufactures should explore.
It's would be really nice to see an upgrade version of this camera. it's a really great camera conception, I would obviously buy it over anything on the MFT or APS-C market until today 2024. This camera conception is way exceptional than everything i see until today. I wish the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 OS coulbe be fit on any possible upgrade version of this camera, or even the wiltrox 27mm or 75mm f1.2 too. It would be the perfect camera ever. An upgrade version, even with E-mount or X-mount, or just MFT-mount will still be great to see. But with just a upgrade of some internally: 10-bit 422 14+ stop Dynimic Range 3D Lut (Preview and Integrate) 4k up to 120 without crop in 10-bit 422. 2.5k 240p 10-bit 420 (or FullHD/2k) Prores Internally or Externally by USD port to a SSD Dual Native ISO 500 - 6400 (Free of noise) Great the Full Size HDMI & SDI A 20% much better Screen and EVF. A Very Much Usable AF System (The last one was not so bad, some what usable) Price Under $2500 U.S And than, we get it!! The best camera ever!!
Really interresting video. I bought this camcorder and I am rather happy with but I have a lot of problems to find a lens compatible with the MTF mount. Do you know a compatible MTF zoom lens with no crop and all automatisms ? Best regards. Julien.
is this the only 4/3 micro format camcorder still today in 2023?.. I got a GH3 with great lenses and try to find a 4k camcorder with 4/3 micro format.. is there any such new camcorder today in 2023? thanks from the future Kristian! Kind regards, Christopher in Sweden
Great video! Thanks for all of the feedback and recorded footage. Btw, what is the name of the song you used in the background and where can I find it?
did you ever compare, internal recording vs atomos recording? besides being able to do 60p was there less noise in the shadows or detail or anything else? thank you

@@deividasgnedinas7592 hey, at that time I couldn’t find a good offer. I actually went with FS700 and ZCAM E2, they are my main work horses now. Although, for a fair price, i’d love to get that JVC...
It was my indie camera of the year for 2016..... but now, it'd be a real hard buy for it's current price of $2500. The GH5/s do everything this camera does, but far better (the only real advantage are the built-in XLRs) and fora similar or lower price. Ditto that for the Sony A7III. Using the MFT mount continues to make little sense - Sony E mount is also an open use mount and would have been a better fit for its S35 sized sensor. The built-in cropping does indeed reduce resolution (when you push in, you're cutting photosites). Build quality & screen notoriously bad/cheap. You also omit this camera's primary weakness - low light performance. Despite its larger sensor, it's awful in low light. Like GH4 bad. That said, I've always liked the JVC look. I shot my 4th feature horror film VAMPIRELAND on a JVC GY100 and, if I could pick one up for $1500, would probably jump. But not for it's current asking price. ruclips.net/video/v-XQSYzR-rU/видео.html
If you have this camera you can stream directly to Microsoft Teams Live Event, which can be set to private access (i.e. only company employees can watch). So this is a very useful option for a simple corporate livestream production. This clip discusses the workflow in detail if interested. ruclips.net/video/3J0oAylA00k/видео.html
Hi, do you know if this camera works with Panasonic 12-35, 2.8 lens? I mean, if zoom and auto-focus, iris, etc? I should say if electronic contacts work properly! Thanks in advance.
Dynamic range has nothing to do with bits that's only the color depth and it matters only for heavy grading you can't see a big difference from 8bit to 10bit only when you look very very close and you can shot with an external monitor on the LS300 + it has a Super35 sensor like the Sony FS5, FS7 its a much better choice for video than a GH5 less compact but way better.
This camera is just screaming for a Ninja V and the recording modes that would ordinarily come along with it. C'mon, JVC / Atomos. Give the people 10-bit 4:2:2 and ProRes RAW!
Giving up watching half way through. The voice levels (the bit you want to hear clearly) being lost within the audio mix with the music bed is just too annoying.
Worse dynamic range of any ''Professional'' camera (and most modern consumer cameras out there now), period.. and the consummate king of obliterated highlights. Absolute garbage for any professional work.

Which Olympus lens is power zoomed?
This is probably the only review which pays an honest homage to this very usable camera. I own 2.

I never thought I'd care about a JVC camera... great video.
Good to hear that we may have changed how you think about JVC. Thanks for watching! KH
This camera would be killer if JVC added the ability to output 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 to an external recorder...much like Sony did with the FS5.

Brilliant video review of this hidden gem of a camera!

Nice review. On JVC’s website it looks like they released an update to output 4K 6Op. Not sure if it’s cropped or not.
Great, great video review. I been following this camera for quite sometimes. Never liked JVC but this camera I think is the exception.
Great video...awesome footage and details regarding the camera. I'm sold for the price range and versatility.
Great to hear you enjoyed the video M28 Photography. Thanks for watching! KH

Amazing review and an amazing camera for the price. Can't wait to upgrade to this! Subscribed with the bell :) Thanks!

Evil Genius Entertainment What would you say is the best AF zoom lens?
The JVC LS300 has a (Super35) sensor paired with a 10bit recorder its far better than a GH5!
Yikes! Dust on the sensor at 4:43!! Nice video though! I think this will be our next camera!
Yes, I thought that as well! Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching! KH
Sydney Short Film School you should really look into a used Black Magic Mini Ursa 4K. Check on eBay or something for used cameras + gear.
waiting for the 10 bit recording
Hello great vidéo. What is your tripod?
This camera packs a punch. A lot of people sleep on it
So can you put a metabones on this? Since it's MFT and what happens when you do.
Where did u get the 1-D LUT to preview in Camera? please need a link
A little querstion -> are B4 lenses useable at this camera ..??.
Yes, there are a few adapters out there.
0:50 And i'm watching this in 2020
i usually film in haytch dee
The prime zoom doesn't work on resolutions above 1080p?
Hi Jeff, the prime zoom will work on all resolutions including 4k as the sensor is larger than 4K
Jeff Speers it does work in 4K, however it doesn't provide nearly as much of a zoom as you get in 1080p.
Yes, newfoundmass is correct with that. Cheers for watching! KH
did you say HAAAGE DEEE? kidding, great video! this cam looks awsm
livestream - very important
What is the best AF zoom lens for this camera? Panasonic 35-100 2.8 ? Or which one?
????
Sorry for the delayed response! That's the lens I'd go for yes. Thanks for watching - KH
It looks ok for some camcorder type footage but any sort of narrative it’s pretty basic and wouldn’t say it’s appealing
the same problem 8bit- sky - ove bright and the rest ok or reverse, poor dynamic
