I have one of these. I have to say right now that if anyone wants to clean the fans and do it well, don't do what I did and try to disassemble the cooling system using only your finger nails or a couple of kitchen knives as pry bars. Lenovo made a massive mistake with the position of one of the fan power couplings and it's impossible to get it out without using a dedicated pry bar (which I wish I had). I ended up not even being able to get the heatsink out so I brute forced the cleaning instead by using my vacuum cleaner on max to suck out all the dust I could see on the fans and probably pulled a little out of the heat sink ducts which I know were PACKED. Unfortunately the cleaning didn't do anything for temperatures but at least lag spikes sort of went away when using OpenGL realistic lighting. However the lag spikes went from being light and frequent, to infrequent, but VERY severe (FPS dropping from over 100 to around 6). I believe that Lenovo botched the computer because this thing has been having issues all the time, I don't recommend Lenovo machines at all, I've never seen one with no issues.
Manhandling a computer with brute force can easily damage it, as applying force doesn't necessarily solve problems and is likely to cause harm. Therefore, we recommend using professional tools, such as our KOMBO-01. This type of tool is specifically designed for disassembling computers.
@@koolingmonster Indeed, next time I'll make sure I buy a couple before I go and tear into my Legion again xD Though hopefully by the time I have to clean this thing again, I'll have an actual PC that won't clog up with dirt so quickly.
Im using lenovo legion 5 rtx 3070 adquired january 2022 maintaining most of time gaming cpu temp 60-70° while gpu lower. Is necesary repaste soon in my case?
The CPU and GPU temperature seems great! However, after two years of using a gaming laptop, the thermal paste most likely has dried up, replacing it can give you even better temperatures!
@@koolingmonster Im wondering if its still risky putting laptop on sleep mode, ocasional times the windows update automaticaly install even the laptop lid is closed(but in sleep mode)
@@koolingmonsterI was expecting to repaste with Artix mx5 but month ago someone told me to not do it because its risky heatsink bad design of Legion 5 2021. I wonder if its true, by watching video looks life easy repasting but i guess it will be same instead fixing the temperatures
After cleaning the dust and replacing the thermal paste in the Lenovo Legion 5, the fans stopping after 5 seconds could be due to several reasons: Installation issues: There might have been a problem during the reinstallation of the fans, such as incomplete contact between the fans and the CPU or GPU, leading to poor heat dissipation and hence the fans stopping. Connection problems: The power or control cables of the fans might not have been correctly connected or may have become loose, causing the fans to not work properly. Improper use of thermal paste: The thermal paste might have been applied too much or too little, affecting the cooling effect. The thermal paste should be applied evenly; too much or too little can both impact the cooling efficiency.
Before replacing the thermal paste, my CPU temperature reached 95-100 degrees in games. After replacing the paste with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut 1g, the temperatures still remain within these limits, what is the problem?
I had same problem, changing paste did almost nothing. I limited my cpu to 99% and temperatures dropped quite a bit. Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings -> Change advanced power settings. Under processor power management set Maximum processor state to 99%. I did that and 90C became 70-80C max under full load, 30-40C idle (youtube etc). I do also have a decent cooling pad but most of the reduction (10-15C) came from limiting the processor power. Limiting the power disables turbo boost which is why ryzen processors overheat.
Do you run in performance mode or balance mode? performance mode will increase the fan speed and the laptop will get hotter than running on balance mode. When you're gaming, do you have your AC adapter plugged in? Does your battery charge at 100%? a charging battery can increase the overall heat in a laptop as well since the battery will become hot while charging. Use Lenovo Vantage and set a threshold to only allow the battery to charge at 50 -60 %. Make sure to clean all the fans, buy a cooling pad to have underneath your laptop to increase the airflow. You could try Liquid metal instead of thermal paste, though you need to know what you're doing if you going with that option.
@@ynglingen-qd1iw balanced, conservation mode is on, doesnt charge over 60. Fans clean, great cooling pad. Only rhing that has helped is limiting the processsor. Currently limited to 87%.
My comment was meant for Wiking. When you limit your processor to 99% or less you're disabling turbo mode. You shouldn't have to do that. As long as it doesn't go 105 or above under heavy load then it's not a problem. Modern laptops will shut down when they've reached a temperature that can break it, As long as you don't see any throttling or it shuts down, then it's no problem.
Excuse me, which is the recommended minimum Cpu state for this laptop if I wanna improve without stuttering issues? I have 5% min and max 99% and Cpu perfomance boost:disabled. The temperature equaly runs fine around 68°max while gpu does the same. If I activate Cpu perfomance boost on Cpu goes up 80° and Gpu 45° while playing Genshin impact
105° is the "maximum" anything below that is ok while being under heavy load and boosted to its max performance. Some games are very CPU demanding, some games are GPU demanding, it all comes down to the games. Those temps is not a problem. 80° while gaming and having turbo on is not bad. The only time something is bad is when your temp is 70 - 80 while watching youtube or just scrolling through the web.
Good day to you. Im using lenovo legion 5 rtx 3070 made in 2021 maintaining most of time gaming cpu temp 100° Used to be not more than 90 but now seems bad. Should I use thermopaste showed in this video? Or native Honeywell PTM 7950
Use honeywell. I made the mistake of using the thermal paste shown in this video, and the temps are still high. I'm now waiting for the Honeywell thermal pad
Welcome to try our KOLD-01 silicone grease, it's different from the typical silicone grease you mentioned. The specific difference is that generally silicone grease uses a solvent formula, where the solvent evaporates when exposed to heat, and the silicone grease dries and cracks, losing its thermal conductivity. We use an exclusive solvent-free formula to perfectly solve this problem. So using a laptop has better heat dissipation and longer lifespan.
hi so i've just cleaned my laptop, applied new thermal paste and everything seemed normal but when i turned on my laptop the vents became really, really loud and when i turn on any game it shows that gpu is at 100% but cpu is goint at 0%, what's going on what can I do?
Hello, there are a few possible issues: 1.You might be using a lower-performance thermal paste from the market instead of our thermal paste, which isn't providing effective cooling. 2.Your application method might be incorrect, leading to ineffective cooling. 3.The heatsink might not be properly secured, preventing effective heat transfer. 4.This issue could be related to fan aging or damage. Excluding the fourth possibility, we recommend using high-quality thermal paste and properly applying it during disassembly to effectively resolve this issue. Over time, fans can become noisier due to wear and tear. If the fan blades become deformed or damaged, they can create more noise during operation. We hope this information helps you.
Hello, good evening, I am writing this comment to know if you can tell me what thermal paste and thermal pad the Asus Rog G713qr uses and which one you recommend since I need to maintain it.
The thermal paste that comes with the laptop is not of high quality. If you are planning to change thermal paste, check out our thermal paste product which has a special non-solvent design that prolongs its lifespan.
it's not 100% that paste is dried as lenovo use 2 phase paste on their products and it is solid and dry till aprox 55 degr celsius, then it starts softening. Ofcourse you need to be sure what paste applied on yur product.
Hello, are you referring to phase change material! We still recommend using high-performance silicone grease. Next time, you can try our KOLD-01 phase change chip, which will continuously switch between liquid and solid states. This process can easily cause displacement and result in heat dissipation failure
@@riichobamin7612 Because it is the one applied by the factory. I tried applying various thermal pastes including mx4 and mx6 and others of excellent quality but the temperatures were higher and not by a little. I think it's due to the fact that the pads have a thickness of 2mm and therefore put the die in good contact with the heatsink plate, whereas with the thermal paste there is a bit of space left.
@@michelecorradino6633 Shit. I am in a terrible situation. I have a 2022 Lenovo Legion 5i and last year a Lenovo technician had changed my screen. Hello, there are a few common reasons why a fan might not be working: 1. The thermal paste is performing too well, causing the temperature to stay low and the computer to determine that the fan doesn't need to operate. 2. The fan connector might not be properly connected; it's a good idea to reconnect it. 3. The fan’s wiring might have been severely compressed during reassembly; it’s worth checking and rearranging the cables. If you need to rearrange the cables or reconnect the connectors, remember to power off and discharge the laptop first.
