    I lift and do cardio fasted as of right now, because many times that I have tried to go to the gym after eating a meal even after waiting 3 hours, many times I get stomach problems and it heavily effects my workouts. Also, It's much much easier for me to control my caloric intake when I fast and only eat during a 6 to 8 hour window.

      @@firaso3929 Actually "whole foods" (grains, wheat and such) and plants are actually not compatible with many people's digestive tracks. Most humans aren't able to properly digest wheat and grains because we never evolved eating that until extremely recently, and plants actually have chemical defenses that not all humans are able to counteract. Meat is actually the easiest food to eat because it has no chemical defenses, the defenses the animal has are physical so once you kill it you're good to eat it. I recommend you look into the keto and carnivore diet especially to understand what I'm talking about. He's getting bloated most likely because he's intolerant to many plant based foods.

    I think fasted cardio tends to lead to less calories consumed overall and that’s why people lean down more. If you eat before your workout, you’ll probably want to eat again after: whereas you’d only be eating after if you fasted. Also in my own experience, working out fasted helps suppress my appetite after the work while at the same time energizing my body for the day=going longer into a fast.

    • @HukBuk904
      @HukBuk904 Год назад +14

      100% agree. As the video shows, the data says that caloric deficit is the key to weight loss, period. And since you’re naturally hungry when you first wake up and also hungry after a workout, if you postpone eating until after morning cardio, you can eat 1 meal for the price of 2 hunger periods. So you will consume less calories and lose more weight. I would be interested in how detrimental fasted cardio is to lean muscle mass.

    • @ReelGreezy
      @ReelGreezy Год назад +2

      Eating before a workout also makes you lathargic, less energized, and typically can cause stomach issues if you are working out while your body is trying to digest.

    • @cherisseharris570
      @cherisseharris570 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@ReelGreezy that was not my experience. Eating a small meal before a workout I have more energy, higher output and I have never ever experienced any stomach issues while working out.
      Fasted workouts - very lethargic and ZERO energy which resulted in my output being lower.

      do cardio after weight training, and dont over do it, train weight training close to one hour or 55 mintues, then do 30 minutes cardio. but dont do cardio if ure doing deadlift or squats, also dont mix deadlift and squats in the same day or the next day, make a split between so u have a rest day in the middle or do other muscle group exercises.
      edit : i would also recommend do cardio no more than 3 times a week, recovery is extremely important after fullfilling daily macros need and training, as well as drinking 3 liters of water at least everyday (but not sunday/off day, 1.5 should be enough)

    I’ve found that the few research articles that “debunk” fasting are bias, and they never observe proper types of fasting. I personally think there’s going to be a war on fasting by the food industry. These are the same people that told us we should be eating 5 meals a day, we should be eating a lot of carbs, and many other myths.

      The food industry is the biggest drug dealer in the world of (sugar, salt and fat). They know people are naturally inclined to become addicted to those nutrients especially sugar. That addiction makes them very wealthy at the expense of public health. They really don't care about public health. All they care about is profits. Same here. I do IF during cuts only cause I can do without any food until afternoon/evening (just coffee and water). However, if I start eating early or spread my meals throughout the day I'll be craving for food in the evening. I also find my "fasted" performance (not just for cardio) better in the afternoon than in the morning, which probably has to do with caffeine and hydration.

    Hey Jeff, hope you notice this comment, but wanted to thank you for all your videos and the knowledge you've shared with your fan base over the years. I've known about you for a year now and you as a fitness enthusiast and lover of the science of the body, have improved greatly. I'm 16 myself and I have a passion to do things like this and learn everything I can there is to learn about how the body works and the knowledge there is to gain from all these different sources online, but the biggest problem for me when it comes to this is where to start. i feel like there are so many different areas to learn about and I am currently struggling to find my starting point. I have dedicated my entire life to the lifestyle of fitness and I love everything about it even from when I first began at 12 years old. But, I have had a recent epiphany on where to start learning and that is your content and i'm glad I can start right now learning about everything I can from every video you have to offer. Thanks man, I really appreciate your contributions to the fitness community and I hope to meet you sometime. I almost forgot to mention, I remember about a year ago I was struggling to find a way to improve my strength and at the time I didn't have a trainer and so my first instinct was to look up how to build a stronger back and guess who I found; You! And thanks to your numerous videos explaining how to really develop your back, it's now my strongest part of my body and in return I have learned to get my pull from 300 to 470 and i can thank at least 50% of that to your videos.

    Love what you have to say here Jeff! The only bit I would add from my own experience as an endurance athlete is that when I train in the fed state I tend to be able to perform at a higher level thus allowing for a more effective workout and burning more overall calories. Due to this I believe that it's always better to train fed when doing specific workouts or long runs. On easy days, however, I wouldn't see any issue in training in the fasted state!

I was working with a PT whom gave me a plan (about two years ago) insisting I do fasted steady state cardio. I worked afternoon shift at the time (2pm-11:30pm) so I would weight train in the morning and fasted steady at night. Needless to say I dropped weight fast (103.5 kg down to 95kg in less than 2 months) is there any research that supports or does not support a cardio method like this?

    The takeaway message here is that cardio, in general, works. I've done both - fasted cardio and high intensity interval cardio in 20 minute increments and both work. I prefer fasted cardio first thing in the morning because it's not as physical thus leaving more energy for my weight training sessions. eating immediately before working out doesn't equate to strength so your first premise is incorrect. I find I workout more effectively when fasting. It is probably different for different people & possibly because I have transitioned to a more keto diet so rely less on those burst of insulin to get me going. If you run predominantly of ketones instead of sugar your energy is more balanced regardless of the meal timing & frequency.
      If you enjoy a higher carb diet than yes you probably have more energy & less brain fatigue if you eat beforehand.

An added benefit was insulin sensitivity increased fasting for at least 3 days while working out. Also if you are working on an emplty stomach but are not fasting the rest of the day you still improve your insulin household and sensitivity.

    Can trigger point therapy be used before a strong workout or does it relax the nervous sytem and muscular system too much like stretching? Can it help with blood flow like a good warm up, and does it really increase mobility (i say yes).
    I am a massage therapist and former aerlist and trig point therapy is my go-to for almost everything and almost every athletic endeavor of mine. There were times when i had so little time to really warm up for the tightness i felt and i used trigger point therapy because its efficient and took my splits from basic to oversplits in minutes. I can hit trig points before i lift with no loss in strength and i use trig points at the end of the day. I use trigger point therapy on all my clients including olympic lifters and body builders with some olympic lifters improving their technique in one session. Everyone seems to respond well but i have read releasing trigger points is not a real thing (????). Trigger point therapy is similar to static foam "rolling" but just more specific and in key places. And foam rolling is considered a suitable warm up, warm down, and a good part of a self care routine according to my training certfication.
    Any chance u recieved this kind of therapy and what are your thoughts. If u cant be bothered with this subject i totally understand.

    I'd like to hear your thoughts on longer term fasting routines, like IF for example, 16:8, the One Meal a Day routine, or even Alternate Day Fasting. I ask because I would believe that due to the reasoning that the body is burning more fat when fasted with cardio, if the subjkects were to go longer throughout the day without consuming any calories, then consuming their calories the last third of the day, or even in one meal at the end of the day, how it would compare to those that consumed the same amount of calories, but spaced throughout the day.
    I am attempting to lean out and lose the last of my excess fat, as I have not been very successful in the past, but I have now restarted counting calories, and am going to only consume my daily caloric intake pre and post workout at the end of the day, and I believe that if this is a very good form of IF, it would be benificial for a lot of people if you were able to shed a lot more light on the subject.

    Those studies have a very likely additional limitation, which is where the subjects have only have fasted for less than 12hrs. Short fasts less than 12hrs still have a significant amount of glycogen stored in the muscles. The definition of an empty stomach vs a true fasted state are significant enough to affect the clarifications of the study. But, love the videos pls keep them coming!

People typically eat a post workout meal. So if I eat before AND after a cardio (HIT) workout, my total calories is going to be more. I also prefer fasted cardio because I just feel lighter on my feet.

      Weight loss can be due to restricting calories... but the majority of people can't sustain restricted calorie as a lifestyle... restricted carbohydrate=sugar as an option achieves optimal fat loss at minimum; however, at deeper levels of study, you will find that the benefits one gains at a cellular level far exceeds weight loss merely restricting calories.

The thing that's hard to convince people..is that if you are not in a caloric deficit...you are not burning fat..you're burning added calories that are still in your bloodstream even though...you're training on an empty stomach. It all comes down to caloric deficit....even when fasting.

Especially when it involves some thing that could involve the substantial loss or gain of money for other interested parties.
