I was shocked at how much cheaper grocery prices were at Walmart than Publix (and Dollar Tree). They're going to drive a lot of other stores out of business. Is this a good or bad thing for the economy...?
Thats been the plan all along. Walmart & big stores put the small, local businesses out & as time goes by when they’ve crushed all the competition they jack the prices up & you have no other real options, & the Walmarts & Amazons control it all. ( sort of like VP’s communist “Price Control” plan).
Thats been the the plan all along. Walmarts and Amazons came into areas, slowly pushing the smaller businesses out and once they’ve crushed them, the Walmarts and Amazons & gov control it all, then jack up the prices higher than they’ve ever been. Our options become more & more limited & the ability of owning a small business becomes harder & harder, until your only option is a monopolized government run, one stop shopping. ( sort of like the VP’s communist “Price Control” plan).
Exactly! All I ask for my job is to pay me the same the next year adjusting for inflation. Not even asking for a raise. If inflation is 8%, give me 8% more. The shareholders and stock went up by double digits. They can afford to pay the employees the inflation adjustment. Edit: I got 2% raise last year. 😢
@@slickdiggler1197 Yeah, ugh. All price controls do is make the product unavailable AT ANY PRICE! But why would we expect a US President understand basic economics?
I work for Publix and they recently had an emergency meeting in Orlando calling in all managers, which rarely happens. Turns out revenue is down and leadership wants our focus to be on lows and out of stocks on the shelves, which has ALWAYS been a priority. Leadership is out of touch with our customers and don’t understand that people can’t afford to shop at Publix. Even the associates they work for the company will shop elsewhere. Walmart and Aldi are taking customers from us and they can’t seem to understand that people are struggling and need to stretch their dollar.
@@l2xsniper1 even after the “discount”you’re still better shopping elsewhere. Most of our customer show up for the BOGOs and other good deals. You can save at Publix if you shop smart.
I shop Publix and WinDixie because I get to both stores with out a traffic light drama. like Publix for just about everything except for prices. Stores are clean and well stocked and customer service is very good. However, Publix is out of touch with reality. I shop WinDixie because I feel they have better prices. I shop Publix because of produce quality. Like shown in the video, I shop Target for eggs, milk and other things we need because they have better prices. Our Walmart competes with everybody. I generally find that Walmart is not significantly cheaper on most items for me to make a separate trip there.
Several industries are experiencing the same situation, with the same leadership response. Amazing how out of touch people who are supposed to have their finger on the pulse of the markets are now. It's not rocket science, the economy is crap, costs are too high, debt of households is high, so what would one think is going to happen? Duh.....even Homer Simpson could figure this one out.
We shop at Aldi and they are 30 to 50% less than Publix on almost every item. Yes it requires giving up devotion to name brands. Saving $200 to $300 a month on groceries makes it worth it.
Our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.
People believe their currency has the worth it does because they have no other option. Even in a hyper inflationary environment, individuals must continue to use their hyper inflationary currency since they likely have minimal access to other currencies or gold/silver coins.
Inflation is gradually going to become part of us and due to that fact any money you keep in cash or in a low-interest account declines in value each year. Investing is the only way to make your money grow and unless you have an exceptionally high income, investing is the only way most people will ever have enough money to retire.

I worked for an advertising company that secured a portion of Walmart's business to produce inserts. However, Walmart consistently failed to pay their invoices. Despite repeatedly emailing the invoices, they claimed they never received them. Eventually, they outright told us to sue them, fully aware that their size and resources could overwhelm us with legal paperwork and prolong the process, costing us far more than they owed. It was a clear example of a large corporation strong-arming smaller businesses.
Sadly that checks out. Walmart isnt the only one either. Many large businesses do this. Honestly, I would've sent the invoice via certified mail so that someone working for the company would have to sign off saying they recieved the invoice. Though I'm sure Walmart's lawyers would still try to argue that wasnt proof that they recieved it...
As a former large corporate consultant at a bank, other large corps have done the same. It's disgusting. File 1099's and UCCs against them. Cheaper and better than lawyers having the IRS handle your outstanding income and their debt.
The U.S. economy relies on ongoing credit and debt generation for sustenance. The Federal Reserve is expected to increase the money supply, leading to further debt accumulation for the average American. Meanwhile, foreign nations continue to desire the U.S. dollar, despite their own economies facing significant challenges, some even worse than that of the U.S. This situation raises concerns about who will ultimately bear the consequences of these economic dynamics.

Walmart has always been cheaper than most places, no surprise there. What is a surprise is a few years ago Walmart began to test a pricing scheme where a particular item, let's say their Great Value food storage bags, which comes in various counts like 25, 50, or 75 in a box... They must've figured out that most people buy the larger count boxes because they think they're saving money, and in the past that was true, but Walmart was and probably still is cashing in on this consumer phenomenon by increasing the price of the larger quantity boxes while the smaller quantities are cheaper, don't believe me next time you go to Walmart take the price of something and divide it by the ounces or quantity, then do the same for the larger and smaller ones. Last time I shopped there, we needed a few extra last minute items for a BBQ and it's a 2 minute drive versus 20 minutes to Aldi. I guess ur a dick, coz I never fo to any big shop, I only buy within 3 mile range around my home. I know all the owners of the small shops. I only pay cash. And out of the 20 shops I regularly visit all 20 I can owe a money no problem. If I'm short. I believe in helping ur neighbors. Big stores will take them out price wise I understand that. But service wise never come close. What if my car goes in and I can't afford to fix it anymore. If there are no local smallshops im screwed.

Commenting from Ontario... last week, when I went shopping at our walmart, I felt so frustrated. Im a very conscientious shopper. I try to shop only discounted items, and my family has had to seriously cut down, particularly on meats. Anyway, at the till, i scanned the meats first. What I purchased was a single 1lb chub of ground beef, a small rotisserie chicken, a package of breakfast sausage (26 sausages), two packets of Great Value bacon, and a package of 6 chicken breasts. It all rang up to $98. Almost $100. I hate going grocery shopping because it seems like every trip is more disheartening than the last 😢
I now shop Walmart weekly for groceries. I recently moved to another state. There are 3 grocery store options + Walmart in 5 mile area. Walmart is by far the least expensive. There are a handful of brand specific items that Walmart doesn't carry that I pick up at Safeway on the way home.

Keep in mind folks Publix is a employee owned company unlike Walmart. Employees own 85% of the company. Plus Publix has way better produce, cleaner and lines are waaaay smaller
Recently learned that Walmart doesn’t allow Apeel or Organipeel on their brands, which is great because all the other large chains are accepting produce with those chemicals. On the west coast, Winco is cheaper than Walmart and an employee owned company so we prefer to shop there. The only downside is they are cash or debit only. If people are living on credit cards, they can’t purchase there.

They are good price comparison points to use when looking at different stores though. Stuff like fresh meat and produce prices vary drastically even between counties or states. Canned soup and bread should remain similar enough to at least be comparable.
From the look of things they’re certainly on their last legs in Tennessee too. A freaking dollar general on seemingly every other corner outside of the big cities.
I used to go to Publix and I think the Pandemic was their excuse for raising prices. I now shop at Trader Joe. Some comparisons: 1. Kale salad is $3.29 at Trader Joe and $4.99 at Publix 2. 2 burritos at Trader Joe's are $3.99 and just ONE Amy's burrito is nearly that much at Publix. 3. 5 small chicken drumsticks are usually less than $4 at Trader Joe's, and closer to $5.50 at Publix 4. Trader Joe has a very good red Cabernet wine for $7.99 and anything comparable at Publix is $11.99 Trader Joe has better fruit prices, too. I never feel that Walmart produce is fresh and in case people did not know, they irradiate their meat.

It is much worse in coastal cities here in Florida, the cost of EVERYTHING had quadruped while the wages are lower than the central cities. We spend less going out to eat in a central city. My friend is a manager at Walmart. They set prices at each individual store. Your store is probably setting their prices to try and compete with Aldi. They call it their “competitive pricing strategy”. They do this to try and put all other stores out of business and then after they do this they raise the prices. They do this over and over in communities.

I consume a couple of pounds of beef per month by default from not growing up in a household of food. I use it for flavor mostly. However, I spend about 60$ per month on ground beef as part of homemade dog food. Natural Grocers is an organic store that sells a brand of hamburger titled Thousand Hills. It is grass fed from birth to slaughter. I could drive 50 miles to save one $ per pound, but I still don't trust those local ranchers to not feed GMO grain just prior to slaughter. I shop at Trader Joe’s. Always. Walmart is bad for communities honestly and siphons out money which would normally stay in that community. Also… it’s ghetto
I live in Florida and started to shop @ Walmart for veggies and fruit. Avocado comparison Walmart vs Publix ( $.75 vs $1.25) says it all. And the list goes on.

We shifted to Walmart because it’s closer to us. We are tired of driving 20 miles to save a dollar. And if you know what to look for there are a few people car camping in the parking lot!
An example I saw of this was our apple cider. The Kroger cider is terrible in quality, but only $4 for a half-gallon. Meanwhile our luxury brand was of a much, much higher quality and was very enjoyable to have. But because it was $6, almost nobody bought them. Seriously, last week we sold, on average, three of the luxury cider per day. That's two boxes a week for an item that's in extremely high demand right now

Despite repeatedly emailing the invoices, they claimed they never received them. It was a clear example of a large corporation strong-arming smaller businesses.

I wholeheartedly concur, which is why I appreciate giving an investment coach the power of decision-making. Given their specialised expertise and education, as well as the fact that each and every one of their skills is centred on harnessing risk for its asymmetrical potential and controlling it as a buffer against certain unfavourable developments, it is practically impossible for them to underperform. Lowball the prices now, wait quietly for the competition to fizzle out, all while siphoning up the local money to funnel right back to their upper end instead of back into the area. Before you know it you’re just that branch closing down away from being in a food desert and they have free rein to either creep the prices back up or the working conditions down.
The worst part is the people working hardest are getting the least remuneration for their efforts and then shamed in the media for not taking more hours, more work despite the poverty wages. 40% of people in work need state support. My husband and I did that market study years and years ago. We buy most of our groceries at Walmart. What I have noticed the past couple years is that the Equate, Great Value, and anything else with high value/cost ratio is regularly sold out.
We lived in a small town in Denver area before Walmart. There was lots of mom and pops. 5 years after they opened, about half the mom and pops closed.
So what? It seems your neighbors didn't like getting gouged by the mom and pop stores.
It is called "The Walmart Effect"
This has been long known & understood by Walmart.
Initially, they undercut local businesses to bring in customers. This takes customers away from mom & pop's causing many to close.
Once market domination is achieved, Walmart raises prices.
Modern America is boring. It's a copy/paste format all across this nation with strip malls, Starbucks, single family homes, apartments and condos. The soul of America has burnt out a long time ago. We have no real identity anymore.

@@fred-ts9pb Weird comment. Who said ma and pa stores were gouging in this guy's town.
You might find a particular item is cheaper in the smaller size or quantity.
I have done that occasionally and have seen that some smaller sized packages were less costly per ounce.
There is literally a “cost per ounce” listed in the corner of most price tags at Wally.
@@michaeldalton8374 If you can find the tag. The other problem is the same product many times will be measured differently to get the final price, depending on size or flavor making it impossible to compare.

I think there are 2 massive money sinks everyone has, thats housing, and insurance. My mother is 95 and she switched from Publix to Walmart. Old dogs are smart, and they most certainly can learn new tricks.
Keep in mind folks Publix is a employee owned company unlike Walmart. Employees own 85% of the company. Plus Publix has way better produce, cleaner and lines are waaaay smaller
I met a guy who worked at Publix in South Florida for 20 years and he made more money than I ever would have imagined. He owns a home in Boca Raton!
I wish Publix would come to the west coast.

LIDL and ALDI are amazing - about 30% or more less than Publix or Stop & Shop - probably about 50% or less than Whole Foods.
Lidl is better quality than Aldi with much larger selection.

Red meat is a Class 2 carcinogen.
People in the US are living longer than ever. And we have more people over 90 years old and over 100 years old than any other country. I guess it is the pollution and rotten food and lack of health care.
Some comparisons:
1. Kale salad is $3.29 at Trader Joe and $4.99 at Publix
2. 2 burritos at Trader Joe's are $3.99 and just ONE Amy's burrito is nearly that much at Publix.
3. 5 small chicken drumsticks are usually less than $4 at Trader Joe's, and closer to $5.50 at Publix
4. Trader Joe has a very good red Cabernet wine for $7.99 and anything comparable at Publix is $11.99
Trader Joe has better fruit prices, too.

It is much worse in coastal cities here in Florida, the cost of EVERYTHING had quadruped while the wages are lower than the central cities. We spend less going out to eat in a central city. They think us local coastal residents make the same income as wealthy tourists, so some places jack up the prices. Wages seem much lower in a tourist town. Problems are magnified here.

My friend is a manager at Walmart. They set prices at each individual store. Your store is probably setting their prices to try and compete with Aldi. They call it their “competitive pricing strategy”. They do this to try and put all other stores out of business and then after they do this they raise the prices. They do this over and over in communities.
