It's very common 90's neoclassical / darkwave music, with the usual sounds of that era, and so on. Nothing "ahead of its time" here. And I can tell because I made it.

@@stephane9544I think he probably meant that the music was made during a time when dungeon synth wasn't that much of a thing, at least not as it is today, much more of a niche and underground type of music, regardless of it being particularly original at that.

@@zarathustra8789 Dungeon synth wasn't much of a thing, indeed, since it didn't existed at all. Dungeon synth is a revisionist term which tries to aggregate styles and scenes that had little or no relationships back then. Mortiis made his very personal "dark dungeon music", Die Verbannten Kinder Evas played Darkwave, Wongraven was considered ambient or "atmospheric" as we said then, Pazuzu claimed to play "necrospirituals", and so on. All these projects were linked to the black metal scene, but in no way, from a sonic, visual, moral, etc. point of view, were they considered to be a scene in the strict sense of the word. As far as Maelifell is concerned, this demo in particular is largely inspired by bands like DVKE or Stoa, who were already big bands at the time. I know it's an inevitable generational bias, but we have to stop imagining that nothing existed before 2010 and that everything was "obscure and ultra-underground".
