Before you overnight park, check with the location to make sure it's allowed, or check for No Parking signage. For example, here in Vancouver, Canada, most often the Walmart does NOT own the parking, they lease on a shared shopping site with multiple other stores, and overnight parking is not allowed. It will suck when security comes up to you at 11pm when the store closes and says you have to move on now. This is not the time to be trying to relocate. And yes, they WILL escalate this to police presence for trespassing. Too often, folks used to U.S. Walmart camping get caught out with Canadian Walmart camping, thinking the rules are the same.
Same thing happens in the U.S. too, more so in the crowded northeast and parts of California. It's definitely best to check for no overnight parking signs. We do cover this in other videos dedicated to finding overnight parking options.

I would suggest that if you’re serious that you get and use some kind of portable fire pit, and just don’t build fires on the ground. One of the nicest things about the solos is that they seem to always burn completely out over night leaving only cold ashes - easy to take with you.
I’ve used a custom-made, simplified version of the Solo for about a decade now. It is nearly always cold with/in a few hrs. as well. But we still douse it before hitting the hay. If it’s at all warm when we’re packing up to leave I’ll douse it again before emptying the ashes into the fire ring. We have taken them with us when there wasn’t a ring or pit. I’ll use my all metal trash can from under the sink and put it in the bed of my truck until I can dispose of it properly. But that hasn’t happened more than once or twice since I started using it.
Many people just don't care. I can do what I want attitude with everything. Yes our camping privileges in remote areas are disappearing and more. Safe travels guys. All the best.

Don’t move rocks or pick up fallen limbs on the edges and only park on hard-pack, not soft ground. It’s important to keep a natural buffer around campsites so it doesn’t all become a trampled mess. New rule this year in the Blackrock Ranger District just outside the Grand Tetons (includes Teton View, Spread Creek and Buffalo Valley Road). If a site is occupied you need to move along and find another. Just left there and was amazed at how many people would try and squeeze in just a few feet away from my rv. And yes, Campendium is doing an awesome job working with the Forest Service trying to help in informing the public of the rules. "In some of the heavily-used areas of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, you are required to park at Designated Marked Dispersed Sites. Each site is marked with a numbered post. If a site is occupied, continue on to find an open site." I'd post the link but YT will not let me.
Hi, great video. I have to comment on your point about putting out campfires before you leave the area. My wife and I were at Kohler Andre state park in Wisconsin camping next to a large two-family group with kids. They packed up mid-morning and left a pretty steady fire going in the fire ring after they had cleared out. Not a smart idea and yes I made sure is was out. Alot of bad etiquette campers these days who rely on the rest of us to pick up after them.
You would think you wouldn’t have to tell another RVer to NOT park on top of you! Glad you did though! It would save us breaking camp, packing up, and leaving for another more private spot.
Thanks. Honestly it feels a little weird saying some of these thoughts in public, but I guess someone has got to do it. I appreciate that you understand where we’re coming from..
I was just at Glacier National Park over the 4th and was staying at a somewhat remote RV campground. They offered to pump your waste tanks as part of your stay, but said it was perfectly fine to let your gray water fly….evidently that’s ok in Montana? Seemed mighty weird to me.
my expectation is that boondocking will be outlawed everywhere within 10 years, because its simple to implement for the agencies. And the RV campground firms will be lobbying for this outcome.
Great video as usual. My question is where did you get the Verdansk t-shirt? As my friends and I play Call of Duty Warzone, I’m sure we’d all like to get one.

I think a lot of new campers will go away in the next year when the monthly payments get old, a lot more work than they figured, hard to find a place to camp, close, but not all the comforts of home. Should be a lot of barely used campers hitting the market for a good price.
Wanting to come out and live your way. Is there enough places to boondock in light of all the wild fires this year and years past? Thanks for all your knowledge which is very helpful. God bless u both
All of these issues have always existed - at least since I was a Boy Scout in the ‘70s. The Real Gallant Outdoors folk always clean up after the Goofuses of the world. You just have to decide which you are.
QUESTION: a lot of new trailers have "outdoor kitchens" are they a wise thing to use in "bear country" A sheet of fiberglass & luan don't seem too "bear proof" to me. Especially with a bears huge ability to smell food remnants.
As long as it's a hard sided surface that can be locked, you should be fine to camp in bear country. With that said, you need to clean up and put everything away after your meal.
Thanks for your insight on RV showering. I know you have a large following in your group. I’m hoping you or someone in your group can answer this question. I’m a diabetic and I have to keep some of my meds cool. I don’t think it’s wise to rely on the refrigerator only. I have kept my meds in an ice chest in the past. I’m wondering if there is a good small cooling unit on the market. Any help would be appreciated. Love your videos.
I cannot believe this new batch of campers (the Covid legacy). Unfortunately they are making the RV life more challenging and less wonderful for all those who were out there long before these people even looked for an RV. My hope is that not many of you decide to give up camping for a year or two, wait out this onslaught.. Sometimes it's hard to get the momentum going again even when you loved what you were doing. Thanks for this video. I hope the people who need to see this do.....
I absolutely LOVED this episode! It should be mandatory to watch before entering a campground or BLM or State Park or National Park or forest or Walmart or… and then watch it again at the start of the next season. I think unfortunately we are entering the new normal of degraded humanity and for the most part it will get worse with only small pockets of kindness, sounds Bleak i know 😞
This was a very well done video...but I have to say, a shocking one. WOW! It is one thing to have one or two people or groups who behave so carelessly, rudely, and slovenly when camping, BUT so many that action must be taken? I will sound like the 64 year old gal that I am, but what in the hell are these folks thinking??? Were they raised by wild animals? Manners, compassion, cleanliness, and taking personal responsibility for one's behavior must be taught begining to toddlers and continue until children reach at least eighteen years of age if not longer. Shakes my head. Y'all did a fabulous job with your kind video message, but it is tragic that boondocking etiquette must be addressed. Take care and be well!! PS The video shots were just gorgeous.
If you don't want to waist your water to put out your fire, you can shovel dirt onto it to smother it. That's how woodland firefighters do it. There's really no excuse.

If a site is occupied, continue on to find an open site."
I'd post the link but YT will not let me.
Thank you for your efforts. We live by those rules. Sadly not everyone does.
I have seen a lot of this recently, I hope the problem improves as time goes on
as the quality of people goes DOWN, the problem will not improve. Because..of the people.
It’s sad that this EVEN has to be addressed but here we are!
What about taking an outdoor shower in a shower enclosure. Is this ok and permitted?
Normally yes, just make sure you're using biodegradable soap if the water isn't going into a waste tank! (Same goes for dishwater)
Great show, Kentucky
Hey, we're boondocking next week! Yes! I love Metallica but I'll keep my music low.
Hope to see you in Utah! We head out on our big trip soon.
I like vintage Metallica! ;) Thanks for the video and Roll Tide Sean
haha me too and RTR Rick!!!!
Good point!
Also keep in mind the wind flow with gennies. Don't let your exhaust go into your neighbor's rig. People have been killed that way. Have some heart.
We learned how to boondock while in Yellowstone.
There's no place like alone.
my expectation is that boondocking will be outlawed everywhere within 10 years, because its simple to implement for the agencies. And the RV campground firms will be lobbying for this outcome.
Great video as usual. My question is where did you get the Verdansk t-shirt? As my friends and I play Call of Duty Warzone, I’m sure we’d all like to get one.
Please don't leave your barking dogs outside and don't leave them in your rig when you are out.
^^^^^^^this
You can ask "please" all you want, it doesn't do one bit of good.
The dog owners think more about themselves than others.
@@michaelbarras6950 in reverse. i think more about my dogs than i do about others. Leave them in the rig, they won't howl. take them with me, they are always leashed..ALWAYS.
I guess it's a matter of "where i'd rather spend my time"..people? critters?
@@michaelbarras6950 not all
Plz
Ya, I found all kinds of graffiti on the canyon walls at Gila cliff dwellings! I scrubbed it clean so I did my part. 🤯 lol.....🤣
Thank you for trying to save us from selfish idiots!
Ha ha well at least we can say that we tried. Hopefully things will get better this year.
Awesome video!
I think a lot of new campers will go away in the next year when the monthly payments get old, a lot more work than they figured, hard to find a place to camp, close, but not all the comforts of home. Should be a lot of barely used campers hitting the market for a good price.
Agreed!
Good tips.
Wanting to come out and live your way. Is there enough places to boondock in light of all the wild fires this year and years past? Thanks for all your knowledge which is very helpful. God bless u both
Wow, I'm beginning to think that people may not appreciate my jackhammer that I like to bring while camping.
Generator volume is directly related to how close you park to me.
Well said
Thank you very informative.
common sense is no longer common sad greetings from North Carolina thanks again we have hit one year full timing all our best safe travels
Question: I would always save my dishwater to douse my campfires. Good or bad?
Smart!
No one should complain about that.
That is pretty good, the carbon in the wood absorbs the odors, and the heat burns much of the food particles so it does not attract ants.
Just make sure you're using biodegradable soap if you're going to be dumping dishwater anywhere but in a waste tank
Food for thought for sure. But, I sit here now thinking of all of these City Slickers heading out into the woods when the SHTF happens.....
Can you say "no clue"?
Thank you so much!
You were brought up in a different era, as was I. The generation behind us, for the most part are our fault for not smacking them when they needed it.
If you don't want to waist your water to put out your fire, you can shovel dirt onto it to smother it. That's how woodland firefighters do it. There's really no excuse.
