I started in 2004. basically when the game was released. I remember the run from Dark Elf Village to Gludin used to be so scary with all of the aggro spiders and pkers. And the music and sound effects added some horror too. Gone are the good old days. Now pay to win kills everything. If someone could bring this game back with ZERO pay to win and the old school vibe, it would be a HUGE hit!
If you want to play classic Lineage 2 again I recommend Elmorelab to you! They have 3 servers, one c3 and two c5, each server currently has 2k - 3k daily players
Try lineage reborn they have a bunch of dedicated server for old players...And my first experience with the game is C4 also reborn server actually blow me away when I see the amount of shop in Gigan...

There's 2 things that are worth pointing out tho. 1. It would take forever to completely remake the game for a single person. A community effort on a git repo could help maybe. 2. The legal side of things. I'm not well versed in law, but if L2 servers are getting sued, this would get sued too. If you're making money off of it at least, then for sure.

As an adult now I can't afford the time to grind but exploring Aden again without all the grindy drama would be a dream. In all these years only Age of Conan and specially Genshin now could fill the gap of exploring under suberb soundtrack. It's not that Jason Hayes and the folks at World of Warcraft can't make great music, its just that motorbyke goblins break its immersion. But Bill Brown's music is so memorable that even today you see some unknown russian conservatoire alumni playing Lineage themes and thanks the internet we can see that too.
In terms of freedome, i havent meet anything better than lineage yet, you could equip all weapons no matter the class,all armors,you could get castles and others would pay taxes on grocery, open world pvp, you can attack anyone and anything, hands down best freedom MMO

This game holds a special place in my heart. My father and I played this for many, many hours. He was an Orc named Kondor, and I was a dwarf named Bubba BadHammer. He is gone now. I will sit and listen to the soundtrack to this game and get choked up. I remember the last time we ever logged out together in Gludio. I had no idea that would be the end.

Beautiful. L2 was not about gameplay. Not about graphics. It was about people who shared the journey with you. The friendship we created. Friends you never met in real life and sometime you even travelled to foreign countries to meet them. People who were there for you. I am 43 now, but the friendship, we found in game, lasts till today. We no longer pay L2. Maybe even 10 years now. But we still meet, invite friends to wedings, to celebrations of new born children. This game game me so much. Anyway. I wish you good luck. I personally would prefer PC release. But not VR. I dont even need to play the game, but I would like to have a chance just to walk through the world and let the nostalgia pull me in.

This game gave me the feels that I can no longer replicate. The drama, the crit sounds, the pvp...the grind.......had some great times over teamspeak with strangers until 3am with this L2. GG
The memories... the thing I remember the most about this game was the music and the visuals in weapons and armor, you could look to someone and see what he/she was using (grade S,A,B... Light majestic set with a soul separator dagger...) in just one look and for me no other game has acomplish to replicate that and is a pity... EDIT: If you somehow can bring a working/functional Interlude client to PC and sell it to make private servers, you will have money flowing to you.
If I don't have to grind for another decade I'll very much happily play this when it's ready. Hell, even if I do, I'll just stay in Dion listening to Shepherd's Flute, just like I used to. The power of nostalgia, now with improved graphics.
Dont worry my friend, last time i played there was so much more boss farm, that i end up going to farm spots just once to level up the character. On a x20 server i just spended like 2 weeks of farming to get a starting gear and from there and beyond, was just, entering a clan and going to hunt raid boss and epics and instances all day long. I admit that the last chronicles are good on that, less farming and more boss hunt and pvp.
Cmon.. grind was one of the Best things in L2. You could be a topper just spending a lot of time on grinding despite having no super playing skills. That was giving a feeling of kind of a perfect balance between just skilled players and these which spends a lot of time on grinding. I love memories from this game, but I have to say that my love is gone since Gracia Finał release. These Vesper sh*t, micropayments etc. Destroyed the game. I'm heavily missing times of Interlude, introducing Kamael or CT2

But no, the grinding is absolute dreadful when you have a life to run, and skill was hardly a thing, everyone played archers and whoever macro'ed their potions better won. But before this started, I had so much fun. It's been nearly 2 decades and I'm yet to find a MMO that gives me epic sieges and castle defenses. Closest I found was Age of Conan, which had much better and balanced combat, but not enough players for organizing sieges properly. PS: It's dead AF now.

Great job mate! I always talk about revamped L2 with my friends as a fun hypothetical scenario. I'm convinced that with some gameplay changes, bot protection and updated graphics it could make a big comeback in MMORPGs.I got some ideas but I honestly don't know much about game designing so it's more of a fantasy at this point.
The rise of people remaking/modding games for the better is great to see. I'm doing light work for mine but man it's crazy how much I'm seeing from others.
what insane work! try tackling core gameplay loops and UI next. don't go for shiny baubles like mobile or VR. sure those are technically challenging but doing something end to end will be much much more interesting and then you'll have the toolset in hand to say "I made a full game"

Lineage 2 was one of the best childhood games, brings back so many memories of our family playing together and competing to level up the highest. It has one of the best soundtracks in gaming history and the locations are so nostalgic! Good luck on your endeavors! As a game dev I know this is going to be very challenging, but rewarding as well. 😄
this is awesome. a few days ago i was looking for a visual improvement patch for a server i am working on and this YT recommendation has left me quite amazed with what can be done in terms of graphics. i would love to see some version of Lineage with those graphics although i fear the hell that would be running that in some massive pvp (we know that the graphics engine suffers when there is siege to castles). anyway, very good job 10/10
I started in Prelude. The meshes with ground with the gaps were in the game originally. They seemed to be extremely noticeable underwater water. We also could see through the world if we panned the camera in certain ways. There was a bug where we could use the camera to see beyond the current area and use the split in the meshes to glitch to the other side. We were using this to jump into Dragon Valley right next Antharas' Lair. I think the teleporters were too expensive to use and the one to Harden's Academy was cheaper or closer to the place where we could jump across the mountains. I miss this part of the game. This was back before people were spamming soul shots because the economy wasn't saturated with adena. We literally were buying/selling mats to craft gear to crystalize and every resource was precious. We saved arrows even if we weren't bow users.
I have some of the best memories from this game. I played Dev. pretty much till there wasn't a Dev. With all its flaws they got so much right in L2. Hard to believe it has been 20 years! I love what you are doing here.
There are not enough likes on the entire internet I would love to give you for this. I remember Lineage ][ being my first MMO ever, starting on the very first emulated C0 servers where almost nothing worked.. and continuing on with friends up until CT2.1 (I think). So much fun, so many memories..

If you complete a client you can make a fortune from this selling to private servers. Myself, I'd buy for 10.000 euros easily. But it's hard to complete.
I would love to see a remake of Lineage 2 (H5) with a new redistribution of mobs across the map, offering a lighter and higher quality game. L2 has an impressive and extremely underused map. This is a huge effort that could be done by NCSoft. Anyway, congratulations on this exceptional work!
Thank you for this video! Lineage is still one of the best games I have ever played (and I played a lot fo games and MMOs). Unfortunately L2 successor Throne and Liberty is not even close to this great game (because of NCSoft greed). I hope some day we will MMO as good as L2, why not better :)
I appreciate all of your efforts put into creating this game :). My MMO RPG gaming journey also started with Lineage 2 and Granado Espada. I wanted to make games, and funnily enough, after years of my bachelor and master studies in mathematics, I do my PhD in the VR field and use Unity for the projects. Those games also contributed to who I am right now :).
The music of talking island , its break my heart for nostalgia, i was amazed by the game at 14 years old just roaming arround the island for the first time and looking forward how the world would be , and omg the armor models , the only old game with true fantasy vibes

I started playing L2 towards the end of open beta in 2003 and played religiously for years on the Erica server (remember Playa, BofA, DLM, Nox?) Hands down the best game I ever played and I hope this Unity thing takes off big time 👍👍👍👍👍

I have always been using Lineage2 models sounds and animations for my peronal projects on Unity. Also I had the same idea a long time ago and also made part of Talking Island but I was a very begginer in development so I made the terrain myself and placed every objects one by one. Very nice video you motivated me to come back into it now that I have improved a lot.
@@CarowYT I've managed to replicate your work. I suspect the missing interior grounds and the holes into terrains informations are stored in Brush000 and their associtated Model000 in L2PE
@@CarowYT Nice man! Did you parse them from code, or did you manually add them one by one? I've debugged them by spawning a ball on their location (+ pivot?) where they have CSG_Add as mode but they are all over the place (also checked their polyflags).

From a player that still plays L2 each day for 5-6 hours… I have to admit you did a great job. It would be amazing to build a server with all this setup in which to join also. Maybe team up with Reborn L2 or some other major server. Amazing work again.

This feels more like a remaster, rather a remake but it is still impressive. If we talking about a remake, better would be to add/enhance and completely change a lot of things in the textures of the models, the models themselves and to add more animations in places such as waterfalls/flora.
This is so great. Can't express how much I enjoyed Talking Island as a starting area, think I've spent hundreds of hours just grinding the zone and twink pvp'ing.
Man I don't know how many hours I dropped in C4. Such good memories. The funny thing is that we knew the game wasn't up to pair with the mmos of it's time. But the ""Hardcore"" nature of it make it so it had it's own charm. I don't know why NCSoft just makes a remake with modern engine and modern controls. That's what people wants.
This is so awesome. I appreciate the insight into the process of exporting assets, this looks like it took you ages. Please, oh please tell me that there's more updates coming. As for what you should try next, I'd say try playing around with texture upscale more and see where that leads. Player textures, armor and maybe a building. I'd be curios to see a side by side comparison. Also, we need to see a mob damn it! A talking island spider at least.
I hope you are still working on this beautiful project, waiting for more updates. I really like lu4, but I know it will be a very heavy project for my computer.
Hell yeah, I would support this project. I Feel like the best private server would bring back one of the old chronicles and introduce a scaling xp multiplier. Like 0.25% increased xp per level so that the game is not sped up at lower levels so much, but reduces the impossible xp walls that you reach at levels 65+
Never played Lineage, but played other mmo's like Ragnarok Online and (more similar to lineage) Silkroad Online. Your passion project is amazing, thank you for documenting and sharing all of this.
hope you keep up this amazing work. to be fair, L2 interlude it's well balaced, so the only thinks it need are some accesories and armor that were introduced in future Expansions, like: armor: dynasty vesper weapons: vesper MONSTER ONLY: i always wanted to use (zaken's dual swords)
I played C3 -> C6. C3+C4 were the best MMORPG experiences I ever had. I miss the trading without lame auction house. All those flashy quality of life features made MMORPG games single player games with better bots (players)
The ability to port assets from old games to a new engine is fantastic, I saw the Defiance project that is doing the same! I hope that someday someone will do the same with Age of Conan Unchained!
Lineage II has one if not the best soundtracks of all time and the best landscapes, I love it so much and it will always hold a place in my heart.

The C1 content was just the best. Nice to see someone make it a little bit more modern but still keep it "old".

Yes! That, is an awesome project mate. I never progressed very far in Lineage 2 but I still remember some gaming sessions on it vividly to this day.

Played lineage 2 a couple of years, those were the days. The leveling, the seiges, the greafing, the drama, the grind, hecking awesome stuff.
Who can forget the PvP came naturally from Language barriers. It truly was natural faction vs faction gameplay.

Lineage 2 was one of the best childhood games, brings back so many memories of our family playing together and competing to level up the highest. It has one of the best soundtracks in gaming history and the locations are so nostalgic! Good luck on your endeavors! As a game dev I know this is going to be very challenging, but rewarding as well. 😄

this is awesome. a few days ago i was looking for a visual improvement patch for a server i am working on and this YT recommendation has left me quite amazed with what can be done in terms of graphics. i would love to see some version of Lineage with those graphics although i fear the hell that would be running that in some massive pvp (we know that the graphics engine suffers when there is siege to castles). anyway, very good job 10/10

I started in Prelude. The meshes with ground with the gaps were in the game originally. They seemed to be extremely noticeable underwater water. We also could see through the world if we panned the camera in certain ways. There was a bug where we could use the camera to see beyond the current area and use the split in the meshes to glitch to the other side. We were using this to jump into Dragon Valley right next Antharas' Lair. I think the teleporters were too expensive to use and the one to Harden's Academy was cheaper or closer to the place where we could jump across the mountains.
I miss this part of the game. This was back before people were spamming soul shots because the economy wasn't saturated with adena. We literally were buying/selling mats to craft gear to crystalize and every resource was precious. We saved arrows even if we weren't bow users.

I have some of the best memories from this game. I played Dev. pretty much till there wasn't a Dev. With all its flaws they got so much right in L2. Hard to believe it has been 20 years! I love what you are doing here.
There are not enough likes on the entire internet I would love to give you for this. I remember Lineage ][ being my first MMO ever, starting on the very first emulated C0 servers where almost nothing worked.. and continuing on with friends up until CT2.1 (I think). So much fun, so many memories..

If you complete a client you can make a fortune from this selling to private servers. Myself, I'd buy for 10.000 euros easily. But it's hard to complete.
I would love to see a remake of Lineage 2 (H5) with a new redistribution of mobs across the map, offering a lighter and higher quality game. L2 has an impressive and extremely underused map. This is a huge effort that could be done by NCSoft. Anyway, congratulations on this exceptional work!

Thank you for this video! Lineage is still one of the best games I have ever played (and I played a lot fo games and MMOs). Unfortunately L2 successor Throne and Liberty is not even close to this great game (because of NCSoft greed). I hope some day we will MMO as good as L2, why not better :)

I appreciate all of your efforts put into creating this game :). My MMO RPG gaming journey also started with Lineage 2 and Granado Espada. I wanted to make games, and funnily enough, after years of my bachelor and master studies in mathematics, I do my PhD in the VR field and use Unity for the projects. Those games also contributed to who I am right now :).

The music of talking island , its break my heart for nostalgia, i was amazed by the game at 14 years old just roaming arround the island for the first time and looking forward how the world would be , and omg the armor models , the only old game with true fantasy vibes

I started playing L2 towards the end of open beta in 2003 and played religiously for years on the Erica server (remember Playa, BofA, DLM, Nox?)

I have always been using Lineage2 models sounds and animations for my peronal projects on Unity. Also I had the same idea a long time ago and also made part of Talking Island but I was a very begginer in development so I made the terrain myself and placed every objects one by one. Very nice video you motivated me to come back into it now that I have improved a lot.

@@CarowYT I've managed to replicate your work. I suspect the missing interior grounds and the holes into terrains informations are stored in Brush000 and their associtated Model000 in L2PE

@@CarowYT Nice man! Did you parse them from code, or did you manually add them one by one? I've debugged them by spawning a ball on their location (+ pivot?) where they have CSG_Add as mode but they are all over the place (also checked their polyflags).

From a player that still plays L2 each day for 5-6 hours… I have to admit you did a great job. It would be amazing to build a server with all this setup in which to join also. Maybe team up with Reborn L2 or some other major server. Amazing work again.

I get goosebumps from watching scenes and hearing music from Lineage 2 every time I see it. Despite having less time than when I was a kid, I still have strong will to come back to this game. Seeing your job is like a light in the tunnel. I really hope you will finish this project and earn a solid bag for this wonderful job.

This project its exactly what i want to happen with Lineage 2, a remaster. I love this.
This feels more like a remaster, rather a remake but it is still impressive. If we talking about a remake, better would be to add/enhance and completely change a lot of things in the textures of the models, the models themselves and to add more animations in places such as waterfalls/flora.

The funny thing is that we knew the game wasn't up to pair with the mmos of it's time. But the ""Hardcore"" nature of it make it so it had it's own charm.
I don't know why NCSoft just makes a remake with modern engine and modern controls. That's what people wants.

This is so awesome. I appreciate the insight into the process of exporting assets, this looks like it took you ages. Please, oh please tell me that there's more updates coming. As for what you should try next, I'd say try playing around with texture upscale more and see where that leads. Player textures, armor and maybe a building. I'd be curios to see a side by side comparison. Also, we need to see a mob damn it! A talking island spider at least.

Hell yeah, I would support this project. I Feel like the best private server would bring back one of the old chronicles and introduce a scaling xp multiplier. Like 0.25% increased xp per level so that the game is not sped up at lower levels so much, but reduces the impossible xp walls that you reach at levels 65+
Never played Lineage, but played other mmo's like Ragnarok Online and (more similar to lineage) Silkroad Online.

The ability to port assets from old games to a new engine is fantastic, I saw the Defiance project that is doing the same! I hope that someday someone will do the same with Age of Conan Unchained!
