    I was in a dilemma; trying to figure out what the best option in how to keep my bike secure when stealth camping (dispersed camping) as I bike tour. I finally look into this matter further on the internet and lo and behold, they showed the Big Agnes BlackTail Hotel tent (yea!) I now can store my bike inside a secure area as the bike is also close to me with less worry while sleeping if someone will come and steal my bike. It is also much less load weight compared to others that also have a large vestibule for storage. I got a great price deal for a 3p BlackTail Hotel on E-bay. (Very happy). Now me and my two dogs can go camping and enjoy the great outdoors. Thank you for demonstrating and discussing the pros and cons of this tent.

      I'm looking into buying this tent. It's 7~8 lb tent. Did you feel the weight while bikepacking? That's what I'll be using it for

    Thank you for sharing about this tent! I am researching tent for motorcycle camping!

      Thanks! The vestibule definitely isn’t big enough for your bike, but it would give you lots of room for gear storage. You may also want to check out the Lone Rider MotoTent. I’ve only seen reviews, but it has a vestibule big enough for a motorcycle. Good luck!

    I use one stake for the wall and two of the "extra" tie downs. It works well like that. Almost like it i intended that way!

    It looks like you have the new Blacktail body with the old fly/vestibule. The new body has the taller inner sides with an all green fly, and the older version has shorter diagonal sides, and the green and light gray fly that you have. I have the older Blacktail 3 non hotel version with the shorter sides and green/gray fly. That being said, it's an excellent tent either way, and I've ridden out some nasty storms here in the Arkansas Ozarks, and splashback with the shorter sides has never been an issue with the vestibules and ends guyed out properly. Not to mention that the older model has the single "rainbow" zippers, which most people seem to prefer. That being said, I also have have Big Agnes Big House 6 Deluxe with the optional vestibule that my wife and I use when camping together. Both are just fantastic tents. It's hard to beat a Big Agnes in any situation.

      Wow, you sure know your Big Agnes! I’ve had a sleeping pad for some time and it’s been great, but this is my first tent from them. I wonder if the fly colour is a regional thing? The only options I’ve found in Canada are the green/grey fly with the vestibule, or a full grey fly with the Bikepack model. Thanks so much for your insight and for watching!

      @@lorrieexplores I'm not sure that it's a regional thing, but perhaps? Idk. Or maybe they were transitioning from old models to new, and did some "mix n' match". But yeah, I'm a big fan of their tents lol. And speaking of sleeping pads, I was a fan of the Klymit Static V, but I've had two fail on me in two years. I just last week got a UST Fillmatic self inflating pad to try out. Haven't camped with it yet, but after trying it out on the living room floor, it seems ok. Hopefully the durability is there. I also want to try the new Big Agnes Rapide pad eventually. Anyway, have a great weekend!

    Do you think you could fit the bike in that vestibule, either with a stand or lay down (to fit most of it)?

    • @lorrieexplores
      @lorrieexplores  Год назад +1

      Hi, thanks for the question! You would not be able to fit a bicycle standing up, but you likely could laying down, although you may have part of a tire sticking out. It’s pretty roomy for gear, I’m just not sure about a bicycle. I believe they make an identical tent for bike packing that has a shorter packed size, perhaps the description for the bike pack tent would include better details.

    How did you find the fly setup? The tent itself looks pretty easy, bur does the fly add much complexity?

    • @lorrieexplores
      @lorrieexplores  Год назад +1

      The fly was quite easy to set up, but it does have to be pegged out as the vestibule is not freestanding on its own. It’s really just a matter of putting it over the tent, clipping it down, and pegging out the vestibule. Thanks for the question!

    Has anyone had trouble getting the Blacktail 3 Hotel Bikepack Tent rolled up so it fits the original stuff sack?

      Hi John, unfortunately I can only comment on the regular version, but I haven’t had any difficulty getting it back in the stuff sack fairly easily.

    That was an excellent review. I kept wondering about the vestibule being “free standing” but you covered that as well. I loved the way you measured it as I was uncertain as to what the tent floor area was. Thanks again.
