The reason why it cracked is because the camera bump is much larger, the phone has lesser contact with the table thus more pressure is felt by the screen
@@sunsgettingreallow8318 the bending moment would be the same or smaller if the bottom of the camera bump is closer to the bottom of the phone than the 12
Makes me wonder if the additional protrusion of the camera lens compared to last year created an imbalance snd made the screen crack under less pressure.
The imbalance from the larger camera that others are mentioning is a good point. Maybe it would be better to test with a case/bumper on to make it more level?
Hope that’s all it is I just ordered iphone 13 pro max 🤔 got a great deal on price so Im happy but so popular I need to wait a week for delivery…..but that’s ok 😊
Since the camera lenses have grown in size the phone has more inclination while placed on the table. Hence, there's a difference in the results. More inclination means less pressure needed to break.
I haven’t been here in quite awhile but am looking at a 13 this fall, geez you got swol since I was last here. Good to see you and doge are still at it, you’re doing a great service.
Your findings stack up with the teardowns. People mention how thin screen assembly in iPhone 13 is compared to previous one. This might be either because of thinner display, glass or both. So in my opinion, your test is valid and unfortunately, 13’s are a bit more fragile than 12’s. By the way, thanks for the videos and tests. Wish you the best ;)
To Aaron and Val and Mr. Monty, you guys make my day so much better. I love your videos! Please keep making more, and I am totally looking forward to the accessories video and the iPhone 13 case videos.
These cameras are gigantic. And while I appreciate you guys doing the stress testing type stuff, I still cringe every time, especially since my 13 PM just showed up in the middle of the last video, lol
One day I threw my iPhone 13 Pro Max at a wall very lightly while in a video chat with my friends. I had “20 Feet Drop Protection Case” and “8X stronger #1 Screen Protecter.” What happened was the Phones screen itself shattered and not a single other thing was damaged. It still worked tho… any thoughts on how my wall doesn’t even look like it got touched by a baby’s light touch and it freaking broke into practical pieces?
I love Monty’s reaction to the scratching iPhones tests hahaha. Good job for your information but my Apple Watch advise me of irregular heart beat when the first hole appeared on the screen 😂
Lol, my 13 has been getting madly abused for like 2 years, all scratched up and messy, but the screen finally had a small crack yesterday. I'd say I'm quite impressed with the durability
Maybe it broke easier because of the way the camera layout is, maybe it has more flex in the chassis and it didn’t read as much pressure. ??? I’m not sure lol 😂
Can't wait for the accessory review. I pre-ordered a mous case for my iphone 13. Didn't realize it was coming from outside the USA. I hope it's worth the wait.
Two things. The phone wasn’t level. Next I want to see this stress test on a leveled 13 max since the display(LTPO variable refresh, brighter) being used is different than the regular 13
Hey, I think it's not the perfect way to test the impact, because the camera module, you need to place the iPhone in such a way that the phone became horizontal and have zero angel with table surface , due to camera module its create a angel, and the metal body start bending.
You should watch the drop test vids the 13 holds up same as the 12 and doesn’t crack until around 10ft. Only difference with his test and last years is the larger camera bump which clearly caused more flex and popped the screen earlier due to the pressure.
I am highly considering getting Iphone 13 mini Dbrand case because it offers excellent grippiness. I hope you will put emphasis on how grippy the cases are in your next case round up.
Ceramic shield is not a coating, it's a nanoceramic structure included in the making of the glass screen. The problem is with the extra oleophobic coating, coming at the end. That's something I can't understand, Apple has the toughest screen but they put a soft coating on it...
Well perhaps the camera does affect the results but I think its minimal.. go look at other drop tests such as PhoneBuff, the iPhone 13 front glass is indeed weaker than iPhone 12… Hence, agreeing to this video statement~
I can confirm! My 5 months old iPhone 13 fell from a height of about 1 meter on my office floor. It was wearing the official apple case. The screen broke, and every day after that, the cracks keep getting bigger. I am an extremely careful iPhone (and iPod before that) user since the 2000s, and I NEVER had a screen break despite the occasional drop, just like it happens to everyone I know. I invested more money into a new iPhone expecting the quality to be there, but it is simply not. Now Apple won't hear nor care about my case and expects me to pay more than 300€ to repair it - almost half the price of the entire phone. I am EXTREMELY disappointed and would rather buy from any other manufacturer at this point than pay this money for the repair. If you are considering buying an iPhone, think twice.
U should set ur test plan as scratch test first then follow by break test...bcus once applied break test, the screen already break, scratch test is no so accurate...
I totally agree with this video. Get a screen protector when or before buying the phone. On the second day of ownership, I had the iPhone (13Max) inside my jean’s pocket, by itself, and the screen managed to get a light scratch.
The camera sticking out a bit more has something to do with it. If you really want to measure it correctly, you should have the phone lay flat. Not on its camera with the middle being in the air
Well this year you get bigger upgrade on the technical side of Iphone so the durability has to be cheaper to have similar prices otherwise the Apple would charge you 2000-3000 for new phone. You can't have both with Iphone man
@@vexystar3389 you're implying that making the screen more durable is like an 800-1200 dollars investment and I don't think that's the case, even if it was like you said is Apple people only care about the name and saying that they have the latest one also the iPhone 12 would've been the same amount you said more than the 11th
@@legacy9685 well Iphone 12 didn't have that much improvement in camera and other technical stuff so there was room to improve durability. Like I said they only improve one or other to keep the prices similar and also the cost. If they would to upgrade both on the same phone, the cost of making would be higher, then they would make less money of it. Or you to dumb to understand what I'm explaining?
Next time just hang the bump over the edge of the stone. This will prevent flexing. Do not use a case to keep the iPhone leveled on the stone. A case will absorb some of the forces. Also, test the back glass too.
Should have tried it laying completely flat! The test isn‘t authentic bcs the 13 has bigger camera lenses and so the phone has less surface to take the pressure. I guess it will be exactly the same as you can see from different drop tests
There are a tonne of variables at play, from the tempering process, the purity of the ceramic, etc, but one irrefutable scientific conclusion remains: just use a screen protector amd case; since prevention is by far the best protection.
Since the phones got thicker through more and bigger Hardware, maybe they have made the screen thinner. I do not remember the screen bend so much on your 12 test...just checked your 12 vid... ruclips.net/video/67IDEDn5oEc/видео.html ...but, if the screen flexes more, it could maybe take a hit (not constant pressure like you did) better.
My 13 already chipped from the corner and this was its first hard fall. It dropped form my kitchen counter to the tile floor, the distance wasn’t even far 😭
The reason why it cracked is because the camera bump is much larger, the phone has lesser contact with the table thus more pressure is felt by the screen
The most genius comment I’ve ever seen
Adding with thinner screen… yea
That’s not how it works, the back of the phone would be under more pressure but the front glass is the same
It creates a bending moment
@@sunsgettingreallow8318 the bending moment would be the same or smaller if the bottom of the camera bump is closer to the bottom of the phone than the 12

I thought the exact same thing.
Perhaps laying the camera of the side of the block and be flush
Read my comment under the video. In short “teardowns found much thinner screen assembly”. This is most probable cause
Was literally coming to comment this
I was thinking this too and that the higher camera gave more flex that caused it to crack

God I hope so
I think that makes a big difference and suspect making it flat will have different results.

Must be all the screen break tests 😜
Hang the camera off the edge of the bench so the phone lays more flat to eliminate any bend stress which could be contributing to the lower number.
I just watch some teardown's of the iPhone 13 and the display was significantly slimmer
To Get more drop durability
@@nono9370 to create more room inside the phone...I believe that the durability is a little bit worse than the iPhone 12 because it is so slim

It shouldn't be a force unit. It should be pressure unit and thats the force over the area of the tip

That’s what i thought 💭
Does the size of camera bump hinder the test, if the camera bump is bigger that would cause more flex when pressed down.
I wonder if the Pro models have different glass
That is what I'm curious about.
Can't wait for the accessory review. I pre-ordered a mous case for my iphone 13. Didn't realize it was coming from outside the USA. I hope it's worth the wait.
Just got my 13 pro in the mail rn!!
2 hours to transfer my data from my 12 pro though 😭
Can't wait for your case tests
i feel the contributing factor for the screen getting cracked at lower points is cus of the camera bumps tbh
Came for the reviews...Stayed for the gains. I wanna be Just like AA-Ron when I grow up
Thank you for doing these tests, I have been waiting days to see someone do this !! Love your work and channel.
You should do the scratch test BEFORE breaking the screen
Two things. The phone wasn’t level. Next I want to see this stress test on a leveled 13 max since the display(LTPO variable refresh, brighter) being used is different than the regular 13
All the drop tests say the opposite, however.. The screen may be less resistant, but the arrangement of the impact force is much better distributed.
Hey, I think it's not the perfect way to test the impact, because the camera module, you need to place the iPhone in such a way that the phone became horizontal and have zero angel with table surface , due to camera module its create a angel, and the metal body start bending.
Shouldn’t you do this on a flat surface without the camera propping the phone up? The results maybe different
Cant wait for the review of the griffin survivor all terrain earth for iPhone 13s
When compared to the iPhone 12, the iPhone 13’s screens are thinner compared to previous years.

The extended camera bump creates a larger bending moment than on the iPhone 12 when he’s pushing down, hence why it breaks quicker
I thought the same thing!! I wish they had put the phone in a case so it would be sitting perfectly flat on the table.
You’ll notice that the screen is a lot thinner this year, and the fast of the camera making it less balanced.

Great video 👍 fine honest review 👏
Its obviously because of the protruded camera. Its not flat on table which create more pressure on the screen
Love this channel, love your work. keep doin what your doin, eh?
its cause of the raised camera. More places to bend and flex and break.
Makes sense to do the scratch test before smashing the screen???
Thanks guys, great info!
Nice Video Dude👌
Why don't you try to break the screens along the sides rather than the middle?
Lovin all you do for us! I am so not tecky!

Thank you for doing this, very expensive
Does the pro models have different glass than the normal 13 ?
Waiting on your video for the best protective but sleek iPhone 13 cases!

How accurate is that test tho its a sharp point of constant and increasing pressure where a drop is a single and instant spread of pressure

Got to love the guys that buy an expensive phone just to break it
It’s not even my phone but I died a little seeing that.
Honestly, I put a screen protector and case on so I’m not worried about scratches. I’m more worried about how it handles outdoor use
Not to happy to see this, as I now have a 13pm. I put on case, screen & lens protectors before even turning it on. Great video, as always...
Why didn’t you start with the scratch test first.
I saw someone loom for repairability. The screen is very thin. That might have something to do with it
Can you do a new screen protector test please
Does the screen cracking have anything to do with the camera bump? What if it was flat on the table with the camera bump hanging off?
lets be honest, why would you put that much force on your phone??
that stupid camera bump might be the reason
Glad I saw this I was going to stab my phone screen with a screwdriver. Now I know better!
This is definitely because of the greater offset of the phone - use a rhinoshield bumper next time!
iPhone upgrades their phone to quickly so it might will not be as good also they also might be claiming it be be better who knows.
These videos are very tech ASMR
4:07 The ultra-wide camera can not be used for macro shots in the regular 13. It is still a 5 pieces optical design without autofocus ;)
Could it be that the glass is different because of the 120hz refresh screen?

pliz retry this Apple geve many iphons for youtube crash testing
And that’s why we have great phone cases!
An idea: Attach the strain gauge to an arbor press. Should equal less strain on the muscles.

Maybe it was because of the iPhone 13’s thinner glass. It was confirmed in the Phone Repair Guru YT teardown video.
