Makes an huge difference. Most of the time when I drop my phone it hits a corner or side of the rubber case, and rolls like a 🎲, which protects it very well.

I have an iphone, and I have literally THROWN it onto concrete (not intentionally, but sometimes I try to run places and I'm uncoordinated), had it land several feet away, bounce, and it's been fine. I've had the same phone for five years and it's still pristine, no scratches or cracks anywhere, with just a simple case. Not even one of those super ones.

Okay tyler i am a heavy equipment mechanic i deal with metal, grease , heights, and tools that can easily destroy a phone and i have the iphone and i have not had a single crack or scratch and i am a person who is rough on my phones. I say you need to test the galaxy and put your money where your mouth is if you say that galaxy is better than iphone than prove it. Also when you scrape a phone across cinderblock you are already weakining the glass’s integrity so your drop test didnt prove much cause you already damaged the phone prior you need to perform the same tests on the galaxy.

I have had an IPhone XR for over 2 years now and of all the times I’ve dropped it I only have 3 small cracks across the screen protector. That being said, almost the whole 2 years it was in an Otterbox case with a screen protector. If you keep your IPhone extremely protected they last a long time. Although, without a case one drop especially on concrete could be an IPhone’s last
I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and have had it since the release and I love it I switched from a galaxy s8 (I know is a lot older) but this 12 has never had a case on it and I’ve dropped it A LOT still has zero cracks but some bad scratches from the road it’s probably luck on some of them but for the most part the damn thing is a lot tougher then I thought
I had a galaxy S7 edge a while back and I took it out of the case to clean and it slipped out of my hand and completely shattered the front and back lmao. Any glass on a phone breaks easily from a drop. Hitting on the edge is usually worse because it will bend the aluminum ring in and shatter the glass from the edge like he showed on his tests.
i think it all depends, like i have seen some videos where the phones completly break on like 3 ft and then i have seen videos where someone has dropped an iphone from like 25 feet and the screen broke but it was still useable
I believe the phone temperature was higher than the reading you were getting. The screen is glass - glass reflects IR which so the temp gun is actually reading the air temperature in front of the phone, not the actual temperature of the phone itself
The reason why it's all-glass is for the wireless charging. You lose less energy with glass than with metal since metal is a good conductor of energy. Plastic would just feel cheap and will scratch way more easily which is why they don't use plastic
If anything waterproof gets a crack, unless it’s humongously overbuilt it will allow water through the crack. Just kinda common sense there, unless it’s something that’s designed to have a “flood compartment” in case of cracks so that the core electronics don’t fry if the outer shell cracks and leaks? That would cause stability issues though, because a normal window with no support on one side of the pane is prone to shattering, and the glass on the phones is at least supported by the internal structure and electronics making it less likely to spiderweb and shatter (but not by much, obviously)…. Or just a layer of waterproof rubber between the glass inside sides and the electronics within, but not bonded to the glass so that broken glass doesn’t take chunks of the rubber with it? But the rubber would HAVE to be bonded to the electronics below, right? Maybe by vacuum sealing? It would be an absolute BIRCH to repair, and it would screw over the thermals of the electronics too… after all, rubber IS a heat insulator, so heat would build up inside the phone way faster than a “standard” glass back, which means the electronics overheat and throttle their speeds faster, slowing the smartphone and making it more prone to thermal crashes over hours of use, and forcing it to take longer to cool because the rubber would retain the heat better… so that wouldn’t work… hmmm…. Yeah, I dunno. 🤷♂️
It would still work just fine! More of the waterproofing comes from coating the components inside the phone so they don’t get damaged when met with water, but if the water doesn’t evaporate fast enough it will damage the phone once the coating wears off. So I’m short, it would still work but it could die in a week or more
The day i got my brand new Galaxy S21 Ultra, it fell out of my pocket getting out of the car after coming home from the store i got it from. It slid face down all the way down my long steep driveway and onto the road, it completely destroyed the screen. (Not from cracks, only scratches and gouges out of the glass)

One thing to keep in mind is that every single time you drop something, it will land differently. Also, by the time Tyler dropped it from 6 feet, it was already very damaged, which likely made it do worse from those heights. Plus, most people will have a case/screen protector anyway. I think it's pretty harsh to say you don't recommend the phone at all based on putting it under extreme and unlikely circumstances. I used to be a staunch Apple hater and a huge Android fanboy, but then I got an iPhone and it's far better than any Android I ever had. It took me a while to get to that opinion, but it definitely is. The wifi issue is definitely a thing though. Otherwise, I've had no issues with it and love it.
thing that you thought was a button is a 5g antenna also, try a Pro Max those things are insane. My caseless 13 pro max fell off a 2 story roof and only sustained a few dents to the steel and nothing else cracked
Well steel is more structurally sound than aluminum. The aluminum bending is what usually causes screens to spider web. While glass is actually more "flexible" than people think. Keeping it in that state for to long means the glass can't be the form it wants to be and then goes boom
I also want to add that's why plastic phones can usually take way more abuse then "premium" phones. The cheapness is whag saves it. That's why rugged phones are all rubber and plastic, if you want really durable do away with the glass and go with a plastic screen.
As far as plugging in a charger. I would assume that it would do the same as my Samsung S10. It wouldn't do anything until there was no longer any moisture in the charging port

But you should definitely not try to bypass the warning, because yes, using the charger with moisture in your charge port will immediately start corroding your charge port, which could permanently damage it.

Well the other thing is that you should compare the hardware with the hardware of an iPhone. Many androids with similar hardware (meaning similar ability to perform) are far cheaper than iPhones. Like the iPhone 13 is around $1,400. You could get some very similar performance with a phone at like half the cost in Android. Personally, I prefer Android, not for the cheapness of it, I just don't like that you can't really do any emulations or any kinds of real customizations on iPhone. Apple is fine for folks that have no idea what they're doing (like an old granny) because it's so restrictive, but I can't deal with that. Really if it weren't for the fact that Linux doesn't have GPU driver support, I wouldn't even use Windows on my computer.
@@point-five-oh6249you’re basing how good an iPhone is mostly on your own bias, emulating and customization doesn’t make android a better phone for everyone by default because for some people those things don’t matter, it’s just a niche, just like how for me iPhone is better PERSONALLY as the iOS system has an audio plug in framework that (without getting too deep into it) allows me to do a lot more in terms of music which would be impossible on the android operating system, again it’s a niche and just like how u personally prefer customization, I prefer having the plug in framework for music and sure you might get similar performance from a android half as expensive as an iPhone, but at the same time you’re sacrificing in a lot of other areas just for similar performance as an iPhone, I have yet to see androids at half the price match the iphones quality in terms of how it feels and the camera quality along with other factors, like the fact that androids have terrible quality control every single android I’ve owned even the more expensive ones have always ended up having an issue whether it’s something small like annoyances having to do with the androids operating system to more serious issues such as an exploded battery a few days after purchasing, there are just too many different types of androids that manufacturers can’t keep up with keeping a set standard for every phone of a certain model, a quick example is how 2 of my friends got z folds after switching back to androids and some how both of them had drastically different experiences in terms of quality of the phone, at the end of the day though there isn’t an objectively better phone, cause some people prefer the uniformity and the minimalistic approach of the iPhone and that’s not necessarily a bad thing nor does it mean only old people use it, some people just prefer their phone to be that, a phone, and not a handheld computer or gaming system personalized to the extreme

If you have an iphone and are worrying about audio quality you already failed the test, watch any dankpods video about audio quality and you would know that industrial audio equipment makes apple look like a kids mp3 player from 2007. Samsungs components make up quite a bit of apples phones and samsung if you are talking about versatility stands out extremely, whether its user extended storage, ability to do work on Microsoft products, gaming, video watching, user control over the product, and these are just a few off the top of my head. Im using a iPhone right now to type this and i can even say that overall samsung just has iphone beat. The only issue i see with samsung is viruses but a smart user wouldn’t really have an issue with that so its a valid shot but one that falls flat.

Apple makes basic products that have basic quality on everything except build quality, and cameras. Nothing that exactly pushes the market to change it for the better. But if you say that then take a look at the video about apple repair, its a horrible mess of shit and nonstandard components. Buying and repairing an iPhone by yourself is damn near impossible without getting exact apple components and in some cases will void your warranty and completely deactivate some features like on the iphone 13 if you get a screen replacement on the front the phone will not longer work with face id, doesn’t matter which screen it wont work.

Well, then that's not a good strategy to use glass as a back cover. They need to come up with some other material which is more durable. Wireless charging is slow and sucks.

Glass breaking happens most commonly because of scratches on the screen, generally tiny scratches you can’t notice The scratch creates a more vulnerable spot in the glass where it can break from, so the phone shattering after the scratch test was to be expected.

iPhone 11 user, general Apple fangirl here. They have focused a lot of their marketing on how strong the 13 is. I’ve had 3 iPhones (I don’t upgrade much.) I have never broken any of them. My iPhone 6 has no water resistance, but is plenty durable for me. Didn’t have a screen protector, and honestly I don’t really remember any major scratches aside from a weird issue with my home button. My 7 Plus lived it’s whole life with a screen protector. Broke multiple, but the phone was in brand new condition after many years of use. I did overheat that phone a couple times. By the time it was too hot to use, it was so hot you didn’t wanna use it 😂 also had some water resistance. My 11 lived the first year of it’s life without a screen protector, but there are I think 3 scratches in my screen and I now have a protector on it. No idea what caused them either. I only ever have put very slim cases on my phones, and all of them are fine. This 11 has been subjected to a lot, both extremely low temperatures (around 4 degrees Fahrenheit) and temperatures all the way up to a little over 100. I have overheated it, while standing in direct sunlight on a 100 degree day filming in 4k for 30 minutes. And Samsung devices of some friends doing the same shut down pretty much when mine did 😂 all our phones called it quits. I also have ridden roller coasters with it, one of which exerts forces of 5.9Gs, and the phone has never reacted to all that force, nor from drops. What’s more interesting is my Apple Watch. I had a Series 1 that I actually managed to crack. It took falling on concrete with all my weight landing directly on it to crack it, and even then it still works perfectly fine 3 years later, and the crack hasn’t gotten worse. All in all, I think devices are really getting so durable all around. I appreciate you testing the camera durability, it’s a concern of mine with such a thin case if I drop this and it lands on the cameras. I’m impressed! Hope this rather long comment was interesting to anyone 😂

I got an iPhone 7 last year and I dropped it 4 times and it was shattered legit, so then I got a Samsung A02s and omg love it sm its so durable, has a better battery life, and specs for videos all of it so good. loved this video so so entertaining to watch. keep making videos bro, I love them!! hope you're doing ok through this pandemic.
One should be reminded that even a simple light duty case would prevent 95% of the damage depicted in this video. Not devaluing the tests, but just pointing out the obvious.

I dropped it from pocket height on the top right corner about 4 months after I bought it new. And it cracked the screen in like 10 places. I’m not sure any smart phone is actually “durable” with or without a case and gorilla glass.

Hell, I have an iPhone 11 that I still think of as new. Granted, I used my iPad pro for everything, and only rarely use my phone for anything other than an alarm clock. I'm feeling old. But I love you, and hoping for a Merry Christmas for you and yours this year.
My first phone ever was a Motorola StarTac. You could throw the phone and skip it across concrete like a stone. I miss phones that are that durable. They should make a folding phone with the exterior made out of that plastic. WINNER

To be fair when you did the drop test you did it after a lotta wear. The iPhone 13 pro max is an absolute tank. Stainless steel doesn’t let the glass flex as much so it’s a lot stronger overall

Any Android phone will perform better and have a better camera? Does he realize there are tons of Android phones, many of which have worse specs and worse cameras than Apple? Most of those would also fail this test. I'm an Android person myself but aware of the physical and technical capabilities of both types. Hell my old phone was a OnePlus 7 Pro 5G and cracked a portion of the screen from a small drop into concrete - that's a high end phone with gorilla glass 5 and still cracked. Sorry to bust your bubble but iPhones glass is on par with the gorilla glass victus on the top end ultra note models. At the end of the day the top end Apple models are on par with top end Android phones, depending on manufacturer of course. Also when referring to specs, they don't necessarily equate to more performance. For example the note 21 ultra vs that iPhone. The note looks more impressive if you're just looking at numbers on paper.. more cores, triple the ram amount, camera specs lower. The iPhone still can match and outperform the note in plenty of synthetic benchmarks and had great camera quality. At the end of the day both will perform great and offer more power than you can even use effectively. It comes down to which OS you like better and if you like getting bent over by Apple each year to upgrade versus Android where you have many manufacturers competing which ultimately push down prices for consumers. Plus Android can be rooted and IMO more customizable, hell I can install a launcher that mimics windows and makes using my phone and tablet much easier with a start menu, tiles, quick start apps pinned,systray, and home screen just like windows.
all phones can be rooted, the process to root a android is just easier and cheaper/free, apple is a bit more technical and costs money to do most of the time. however when you get a iphone you get it for security so people who root apples idk why they choose to i mean sure freedom and more apps, as well as more customizations is always nice but the security you get when you buy a apple product is a great thing.
@@deadlynumbers6701 nah it’s really easy to jailbreak an iPhone. You just have to get one of the free programs on your computer connect your phone and put it in safe mode. Then you can download the jailbreak onto the phone.
For Tyler and anyone else who is unaware: Most common soft/medium metals will have an extremely hard time scratching phone glass, whether it's android or Apple, as long as it's tempered. There's a thing called "Mohs scale of hardness", which essentially is a gauge of how tough/hard something is. Generally, phone screens will won't scratch until a 6/7, which means that it takes a metal or mineral as hard as Orthoclase or Quartz. Steel will generally be able to scratch the glass fairly easily. and iron will usually do less deep scratches to it. Tyler's phone would most likely have the same level of resistance to scratches and damage as the iPhone did. You generally see more iPhone users with broken screens and stuff because there are just more iPhone users in America than Android users. Something to keep in mind though, is that the ability to resist scratches doesn't mean it will be significantly better at resisting impacts. While it definitely does HELP, you can still break screens fairly easily if you hit the right spot (like when Tyler broke the screen on the cinderblock). Most likely what happened was that there was a piece of jutting debris from the cinderblock and the pressure of which Tyler pushed down on it cracked it. For people out there, you can take a razor or knife to your screen and scratch the tip on the screen and it's incredibly unlikely you'd actually scratch the screen.
I’ve had iPhones for 10 years and I’ve only cracked maybe 3 of the and that was from not having a case on it. Even a thin case provides good protection
that's neat but that isn't proof that they don't easily crack. It's a probability thing, as there are more cases of iphones cracking easily compared to most other phone brands than not.
glass will let induction charges through, and not electrify the case. it adds lightweight rigidity. water proofing. doesn't stain. easy clean. better for light transmission, can be layered, better for onscreen touches, less aberrations. won't melt as easly. etc. etc. plus feels more premium than plastic.
I don’t want to start a fight over phones, (like whatever you want), but don’t Samsung phones break just as easily? You aren’t going to go and drop any phone from any height on purpose unless you are testing it/trying to break it. As for specs I don’t know and don’t really care but I assume there are positives and negatives to all phones. I want to know if phones falling from pockets really happens that often and if people are really out here putting things in their pocket with their phone. Natural selection at that point.
Dropped my phone so many times (Samsung galaxy s9) for alot of different heights(accidents) on gravel, cement, metal stairs. But it finally cracked the glass today falling from 15 feet on concrete flat on its face lol
From personal experience, Samsung was more durable, both will break no matter what but I think Samsung just has a slightly thicker glass on them. Both are good phones tho
Also, my two cousins use androids. They’re not any more durable than the iPhones they said. One of them actually switched to an iPhone not that long ago and loves it. I think it just depends on the person and what they prefer.
@why it’s made entirely of glass; try throwing a sheet of metal in your rock tumbler with the quarters and keys and you will see why. On top of the durability, a metal case being dented/cut can cause grounding/shorting and could be an electrical/fire hazard; the glass actually shattering/crumpling out of the way absorbs kinetic energy and makes the internals of the phone salvageable in case of horrendous external damage.
You'd be surprised to know that sand will easily scratch the glass screen. It's because glass is made from sand and a material can scratch it self. Also, Keys and coins aren't as tough as glass that's why no matter what you do it won't scratch
I think you could technically plug it in right after submerging it in water because my phone one time said it wouldn’t charge because it detected water and to wait until it was dry. Then after a while it charged just fine.

Tyler whether or not something will scratch depends on if the thing doing the scratching is harder than the thing being scratched. In this case the metal the keys are made of is softer than the glass on the outside of the iphone so it won't scratch it regardless of duration.
I wonder how well it would last being pushed against something hard and heavy while it is in you front pocket and if it would crack when you sit down on a chair with it in your back pocket. I wonder how sustained heat like when it is left outside in the sun at 26+°C weather for hours at a time would do to the phone. Does dropping it on different surfaces make it unable to be cracked like on grass, tile or on hardwood floors. Get a sample piece in the garage rather than possibly cracking your floors.
Okay Tyler, I love your videos! However, by scratching the glass first you've substantially weakened the glass. Now, most people would have small scratches from daily use and it is a bit more prone to being cracked. I think the results were a bit skewed because you scored the glass before dropping it (scoring would make it work almost like a glass cutter) Granted, nobody would have a prestine phone and drop it in real world use cases (unless you make RUclips videos 😅) but I think the results would be different if the glass wasn't cracked to begin with. I love this video though!
I believe the lenses are made of sapphire and the glass is sapphire infused in some way so it’s not really a surprise that a brass key doesn’t stand a chance
They don't use sapphire in them or well. It doesn't show up. It's regular glass. Metals are softer than glass and that's why the keys and knife didn't scratch it. And the drop test wasnt fair since he had damaged or so much with those scratches that wouldn't happen in regular use
Playing devils advocate here, do you think after all the other tests, the phone was more vulnerable to the drops? I have been an iPhone user my whole life and have dropped my phone without a case multiple times… with mostly bad results but that is typically after a year or more of use… wondering if regular wear and tear increases the glass vulnerability 🤷🏼♂️
you are completely right that the wear and tear leads to the glass being more vulnerable to cracking but that's something that should be taken into account in the phone design. And statistics show that iPhone compared to other brands cracks more easily, granted that could also be skewed by the fact that it seems iPhone users are less likely to use a case for some reason

@T D Samsung makes the led panel/ digitizer/ light panel. Corning glass makes the glass itself. And as for the scratch resistance and crack resistance Corning has tried to make a screen that can be good at both but they say it’s hard to do. All glass can break, and if anything a phone glass is probably stronger than most other glass. Do what he did with a wine glass or a window. Guarantee it won’t last as long.
My buddy dropped his (then) brand new iPhone X in an ice fishing hole where it sat for 12 hours til they found a way to fish it up. He had the warranty where as long as he returned the phone, they'd replace it, so he was determined to get it back. They pulled it out and it worked just fine. 12 hours in freezing water and no issues at all. He kept the phone for another year after that.
Hey just for some clarification, the iPhone 13 is actually MORE durable then pretty much every modern "Android Phone" out there. The reason the back is glass, is to allow wireless charging to pass though, since it can't pass through metal. Yes the back could be plastic, but then it would scratch easy and wouldn't feel as premium. And the cameras on flagship iPhones trade blows with flagship Androids. Also, I'm not biased. My personal phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G. (Long name, I know) I switched from an iPhone months ago. Try those exact tests with a Pixel 6 or an S21, and you will see that they aren't as durable as you might think.

The exact same, the tempered glass of any phone screen is a moh's hardness level of 6, and a coin and key is a level 4. A level 4 can't scratch a level 6 material.

Okay tyler i am a heavy equipment mechanic i deal with metal, grease , heights, and tools that can easily destroy a phone and i have the iphone and i have not had a single crack or scratch and i am a person who is rough on my phones. I say you need to test the galaxy and put your money where your mouth is if you say that galaxy is better than iphone than prove it. Also when you scrape a phone across cinderblock you are already weakining the glass’s integrity so your drop test didnt prove much cause you already damaged the phone prior you need to perform the same tests on the galaxy.
Note to self: Don't rub phone screen on cinderblock. It may scratch.

I have had an IPhone XR for over 2 years now and of all the times I’ve dropped it I only have 3 small cracks across the screen protector. That being said, almost the whole 2 years it was in an Otterbox case with a screen protector. If you keep your IPhone extremely protected they last a long time. Although, without a case one drop especially on concrete could be an IPhone’s last
I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and have had it since the release and I love it I switched from a galaxy s8 (I know is a lot older) but this 12 has never had a case on it and I’ve dropped it A LOT still has zero cracks but some bad scratches from the road it’s probably luck on some of them but for the most part the damn thing is a lot tougher then I thought

I had a galaxy S7 edge a while back and I took it out of the case to clean and it slipped out of my hand and completely shattered the front and back lmao. Any glass on a phone breaks easily from a drop. Hitting on the edge is usually worse because it will bend the aluminum ring in and shatter the glass from the edge like he showed on his tests.
i think it all depends, like i have seen some videos where the phones completly break on like 3 ft and then i have seen videos where someone has dropped an iphone from like 25 feet and the screen broke but it was still useable
I believe the phone temperature was higher than the reading you were getting. The screen is glass - glass reflects IR which so the temp gun is actually reading the air temperature in front of the phone, not the actual temperature of the phone itself

Most electronics will shut off at 100 Celsius because that's pretty much the limit of silicon
The reason why it's all-glass is for the wireless charging. You lose less energy with glass than with metal since metal is a good conductor of energy. Plastic would just feel cheap and will scratch way more easily which is why they don't use plastic
What I would have liked to see is how waterproof it is after a small crack in the glass.

If anything waterproof gets a crack, unless it’s humongously overbuilt it will allow water through the crack. Just kinda common sense there, unless it’s something that’s designed to have a “flood compartment” in case of cracks so that the core electronics don’t fry if the outer shell cracks and leaks? That would cause stability issues though, because a normal window with no support on one side of the pane is prone to shattering, and the glass on the phones is at least supported by the internal structure and electronics making it less likely to spiderweb and shatter (but not by much, obviously)….
Or just a layer of waterproof rubber between the glass inside sides and the electronics within, but not bonded to the glass so that broken glass doesn’t take chunks of the rubber with it? But the rubber would HAVE to be bonded to the electronics below, right? Maybe by vacuum sealing? It would be an absolute BIRCH to repair, and it would screw over the thermals of the electronics too… after all, rubber IS a heat insulator, so heat would build up inside the phone way faster than a “standard” glass back, which means the electronics overheat and throttle their speeds faster, slowing the smartphone and making it more prone to thermal crashes over hours of use, and forcing it to take longer to cool because the rubber would retain the heat better… so that wouldn’t work… hmmm….

More of the waterproofing comes from coating the components inside the phone so they don’t get damaged when met with water, but if the water doesn’t evaporate fast enough it will damage the phone once the coating wears off.
So I’m short, it would still work but it could die in a week or more
The day i got my brand new Galaxy S21 Ultra, it fell out of my pocket getting out of the car after coming home from the store i got it from. It slid face down all the way down my long steep driveway and onto the road, it completely destroyed the screen. (Not from cracks, only scratches and gouges out of the glass)

One thing to keep in mind is that every single time you drop something, it will land differently. Also, by the time Tyler dropped it from 6 feet, it was already very damaged, which likely made it do worse from those heights. Plus, most people will have a case/screen protector anyway. I think it's pretty harsh to say you don't recommend the phone at all based on putting it under extreme and unlikely circumstances. I used to be a staunch Apple hater and a huge Android fanboy, but then I got an iPhone and it's far better than any Android I ever had. It took me a while to get to that opinion, but it definitely is. The wifi issue is definitely a thing though. Otherwise, I've had no issues with it and love it.

Well steel is more structurally sound than aluminum. The aluminum bending is what usually causes screens to spider web. While glass is actually more "flexible" than people think. Keeping it in that state for to long means the glass can't be the form it wants to be and then goes boom
I also want to add that's why plastic phones can usually take way more abuse then "premium" phones. The cheapness is whag saves it. That's why rugged phones are all rubber and plastic, if you want really durable do away with the glass and go with a plastic screen.

As far as plugging in a charger. I would assume that it would do the same as my Samsung S10. It wouldn't do anything until there was no longer any moisture in the charging port

Well the other thing is that you should compare the hardware with the hardware of an iPhone. Many androids with similar hardware (meaning similar ability to perform) are far cheaper than iPhones. Like the iPhone 13 is around $1,400. You could get some very similar performance with a phone at like half the cost in Android. Personally, I prefer Android, not for the cheapness of it, I just don't like that you can't really do any emulations or any kinds of real customizations on iPhone. Apple is fine for folks that have no idea what they're doing (like an old granny) because it's so restrictive, but I can't deal with that. Really if it weren't for the fact that Linux doesn't have GPU driver support, I wouldn't even use Windows on my computer.
@@point-five-oh6249you’re basing how good an iPhone is mostly on your own bias, emulating and customization doesn’t make android a better phone for everyone by default because for some people those things don’t matter, it’s just a niche, just like how for me iPhone is better PERSONALLY as the iOS system has an audio plug in framework that (without getting too deep into it) allows me to do a lot more in terms of music which would be impossible on the android operating system, again it’s a niche and just like how u personally prefer customization, I prefer having the plug in framework for music and sure you might get similar performance from a android half as expensive as an iPhone, but at the same time you’re sacrificing in a lot of other areas just for similar performance as an iPhone, I have yet to see androids at half the price match the iphones quality in terms of how it feels and the camera quality along with other factors, like the fact that androids have terrible quality control every single android I’ve owned even the more expensive ones have always ended up having an issue whether it’s something small like annoyances having to do with the androids operating system to more serious issues such as an exploded battery a few days after purchasing, there are just too many different types of androids that manufacturers can’t keep up with keeping a set standard for every phone of a certain model, a quick example is how 2 of my friends got z folds after switching back to androids and some how both of them had drastically different experiences in terms of quality of the phone, at the end of the day though there isn’t an objectively better phone, cause some people prefer the uniformity and the minimalistic approach of the iPhone and that’s not necessarily a bad thing nor does it mean only old people use it, some people just prefer their phone to be that, a phone, and not a handheld computer or gaming system personalized to the extreme

If you have an iphone and are worrying about audio quality you already failed the test, watch any dankpods video about audio quality and you would know that industrial audio equipment makes apple look like a kids mp3 player from 2007. Samsungs components make up quite a bit of apples phones and samsung if you are talking about versatility stands out extremely, whether its user extended storage, ability to do work on Microsoft products, gaming, video watching, user control over the product, and these are just a few off the top of my head. Im using a iPhone right now to type this and i can even say that overall samsung just has iphone beat. The only issue i see with samsung is viruses but a smart user wouldn’t really have an issue with that so its a valid shot but one that falls flat.

Apple makes basic products that have basic quality on everything except build quality, and cameras. Nothing that exactly pushes the market to change it for the better. But if you say that then take a look at the video about apple repair, its a horrible mess of shit and nonstandard components. Buying and repairing an iPhone by yourself is damn near impossible without getting exact apple components and in some cases will void your warranty and completely deactivate some features like on the iphone 13 if you get a screen replacement on the front the phone will not longer work with face id, doesn’t matter which screen it wont work.

Glass breaking happens most commonly because of scratches on the screen, generally tiny scratches you can’t notice
The scratch creates a more vulnerable spot in the glass where it can break from, so the phone shattering after the scratch test was to be expected.

iPhone 11 user, general Apple fangirl here. They have focused a lot of their marketing on how strong the 13 is. I’ve had 3 iPhones (I don’t upgrade much.) I have never broken any of them. My iPhone 6 has no water resistance, but is plenty durable for me. Didn’t have a screen protector, and honestly I don’t really remember any major scratches aside from a weird issue with my home button. My 7 Plus lived it’s whole life with a screen protector. Broke multiple, but the phone was in brand new condition after many years of use. I did overheat that phone a couple times. By the time it was too hot to use, it was so hot you didn’t wanna use it 😂 also had some water resistance. My 11 lived the first year of it’s life without a screen protector, but there are I think 3 scratches in my screen and I now have a protector on it. No idea what caused them either. I only ever have put very slim cases on my phones, and all of them are fine. This 11 has been subjected to a lot, both extremely low temperatures (around 4 degrees Fahrenheit) and temperatures all the way up to a little over 100. I have overheated it, while standing in direct sunlight on a 100 degree day filming in 4k for 30 minutes. And Samsung devices of some friends doing the same shut down pretty much when mine did 😂 all our phones called it quits. I also have ridden roller coasters with it, one of which exerts forces of 5.9Gs, and the phone has never reacted to all that force, nor from drops. What’s more interesting is my Apple Watch. I had a Series 1 that I actually managed to crack. It took falling on concrete with all my weight landing directly on it to crack it, and even then it still works perfectly fine 3 years later, and the crack hasn’t gotten worse. All in all, I think devices are really getting so durable all around. I appreciate you testing the camera durability, it’s a concern of mine with such a thin case if I drop this and it lands on the cameras. I’m impressed! Hope this rather long comment was interesting to anyone 😂

I got an iPhone 7 last year and I dropped it 4 times and it was shattered legit, so then I got a Samsung A02s and omg love it sm its so durable, has a better battery life, and specs for videos all of it so good. loved this video so so entertaining to watch. keep making videos bro, I love them!! hope you're doing ok through this pandemic.
I’ve dropped my 11 so many times and all that has broken is the screen protectors.
One should be reminded that even a simple light duty case would prevent 95% of the damage depicted in this video. Not devaluing the tests, but just pointing out the obvious.

I have a pelican case on my IPhone 6s and it’s been in a case from the minute I bought it. And has a screen protector. I dropped it from pocket height on the top right corner about 4 months after I bought it new. And it cracked the screen in like 10 places. I’m not sure any smart phone is actually “durable” with or without a case and gorilla glass.

Eyes can't recover if damaged enough, you can get a pretty deep cut on your finger and it'll heal np

Hell, I have an iPhone 11 that I still think of as new. Granted, I used my iPad pro for everything, and only rarely use my phone for anything other than an alarm clock. I'm feeling old. But I love you, and hoping for a Merry Christmas for you and yours this year.
My first phone ever was a Motorola StarTac. You could throw the phone and skip it across concrete like a stone. I miss phones that are that durable. They should make a folding phone with the exterior made out of that plastic. WINNER

To be fair when you did the drop test you did it after a lotta wear. The iPhone 13 pro max is an absolute tank. Stainless steel doesn’t let the glass flex as much so it’s a lot stronger overall

Yo Tyler, those scratch tests are inadequate. My S7 from 2015 can do the same tests, and no damage.
Any Android phone will perform better and have a better camera? Does he realize there are tons of Android phones, many of which have worse specs and worse cameras than Apple? Most of those would also fail this test. I'm an Android person myself but aware of the physical and technical capabilities of both types. Hell my old phone was a OnePlus 7 Pro 5G and cracked a portion of the screen from a small drop into concrete - that's a high end phone with gorilla glass 5 and still cracked.
Sorry to bust your bubble but iPhones glass is on par with the gorilla glass victus on the top end ultra note models. At the end of the day the top end Apple models are on par with top end Android phones, depending on manufacturer of course. Also when referring to specs, they don't necessarily equate to more performance. For example the note 21 ultra vs that iPhone. The note looks more impressive if you're just looking at numbers on paper.. more cores, triple the ram amount, camera specs lower. The iPhone still can match and outperform the note in plenty of synthetic benchmarks and had great camera quality.
At the end of the day both will perform great and offer more power than you can even use effectively. It comes down to which OS you like better and if you like getting bent over by Apple each year to upgrade versus Android where you have many manufacturers competing which ultimately push down prices for consumers. Plus Android can be rooted and IMO more customizable, hell I can install a launcher that mimics windows and makes using my phone and tablet much easier with a start menu, tiles, quick start apps pinned,systray, and home screen just like windows.
all phones can be rooted, the process to root a android is just easier and cheaper/free, apple is a bit more technical and costs money to do most of the time. however when you get a iphone you get it for security so people who root apples idk why they choose to i mean sure freedom and more apps, as well as more customizations is always nice but the security you get when you buy a apple product is a great thing.

For Tyler and anyone else who is unaware: Most common soft/medium metals will have an extremely hard time scratching phone glass, whether it's android or Apple, as long as it's tempered. There's a thing called "Mohs scale of hardness", which essentially is a gauge of how tough/hard something is. Generally, phone screens will won't scratch until a 6/7, which means that it takes a metal or mineral as hard as Orthoclase or Quartz. Steel will generally be able to scratch the glass fairly easily. and iron will usually do less deep scratches to it. Tyler's phone would most likely have the same level of resistance to scratches and damage as the iPhone did. You generally see more iPhone users with broken screens and stuff because there are just more iPhone users in America than Android users.
Something to keep in mind though, is that the ability to resist scratches doesn't mean it will be significantly better at resisting impacts. While it definitely does HELP, you can still break screens fairly easily if you hit the right spot (like when Tyler broke the screen on the cinderblock). Most likely what happened was that there was a piece of jutting debris from the cinderblock and the pressure of which Tyler pushed down on it cracked it.
For people out there, you can take a razor or knife to your screen and scratch the tip on the screen and it's incredibly unlikely you'd actually scratch the screen.
I’ve had iPhones for 10 years and I’ve only cracked maybe 3 of the and that was from not having a case on it. Even a thin case provides good protection

that's neat but that isn't proof that they don't easily crack. It's a probability thing, as there are more cases of iphones cracking easily compared to most other phone brands than not.
glass will let induction charges through, and not electrify the case. it adds lightweight rigidity. water proofing. doesn't stain. easy clean. better for light transmission, can be layered, better for onscreen touches, less aberrations. won't melt as easly. etc. etc. plus feels more premium than plastic.
I don’t want to start a fight over phones, (like whatever you want), but don’t Samsung phones break just as easily? You aren’t going to go and drop any phone from any height on purpose unless you are testing it/trying to break it. As for specs I don’t know and don’t really care but I assume there are positives and negatives to all phones. I want to know if phones falling from pockets really happens that often and if people are really out here putting things in their pocket with their phone. Natural selection at that point.
Dropped my phone so many times (Samsung galaxy s9) for alot of different heights(accidents) on gravel, cement, metal stairs. But it finally cracked the glass today falling from 15 feet on concrete flat on its face lol
From personal experience, Samsung was more durable, both will break no matter what but I think Samsung just has a slightly thicker glass on them. Both are good phones tho

@why it’s made entirely of glass; try throwing a sheet of metal in your rock tumbler with the quarters and keys and you will see why. On top of the durability, a metal case being dented/cut can cause grounding/shorting and could be an electrical/fire hazard; the glass actually shattering/crumpling out of the way absorbs kinetic energy and makes the internals of the phone salvageable in case of horrendous external damage.
You'd be surprised to know that sand will easily scratch the glass screen. It's because glass is made from sand and a material can scratch it self. Also, Keys and coins aren't as tough as glass that's why no matter what you do it won't scratch

I think you could technically plug it in right after submerging it in water because my phone one time said it wouldn’t charge because it detected water and to wait until it was dry. Then after a while it charged just fine.
Glass backs are for wireless charging, as a metal back would interrupt the connection

Tyler whether or not something will scratch depends on if the thing doing the scratching is harder than the thing being scratched. In this case the metal the keys are made of is softer than the glass on the outside of the iphone so it won't scratch it regardless of duration.
I wonder how well it would last being pushed against something hard and heavy while it is in you front pocket and if it would crack when you sit down on a chair with it in your back pocket. I wonder how sustained heat like when it is left outside in the sun at 26+°C weather for hours at a time would do to the phone. Does dropping it on different surfaces make it unable to be cracked like on grass, tile or on hardwood floors. Get a sample piece in the garage rather than possibly cracking your floors.

Okay Tyler, I love your videos! However, by scratching the glass first you've substantially weakened the glass. Now, most people would have small scratches from daily use and it is a bit more prone to being cracked. I think the results were a bit skewed because you scored the glass before dropping it (scoring would make it work almost like a glass cutter)
Granted, nobody would have a prestine phone and drop it in real world use cases (unless you make RUclips videos 😅) but I think the results would be different if the glass wasn't cracked to begin with. I love this video though!

As a cellphone repair shop owner, I can say that most modern flagship smartphones are going to perform very similarly to this, if not worse.

They don't use sapphire in them or well. It doesn't show up. It's regular glass. Metals are softer than glass and that's why the keys and knife didn't scratch it. And the drop test wasnt fair since he had damaged or so much with those scratches that wouldn't happen in regular use

Playing devils advocate here, do you think after all the other tests, the phone was more vulnerable to the drops? I have been an iPhone user my whole life and have dropped my phone without a case multiple times… with mostly bad results but that is typically after a year or more of use… wondering if regular wear and tear increases the glass vulnerability 🤷🏼♂️
you are completely right that the wear and tear leads to the glass being more vulnerable to cracking but that's something that should be taken into account in the phone design. And statistics show that iPhone compared to other brands cracks more easily, granted that could also be skewed by the fact that it seems iPhone users are less likely to use a case for some reason

@T D Samsung makes the led panel/ digitizer/ light panel. Corning glass makes the glass itself. And as for the scratch resistance and crack resistance Corning has tried to make a screen that can be good at both but they say it’s hard to do. All glass can break, and if anything a phone glass is probably stronger than most other glass. Do what he did with a wine glass or a window. Guarantee it won’t last as long.
My buddy dropped his (then) brand new iPhone X in an ice fishing hole where it sat for 12 hours til they found a way to fish it up. He had the warranty where as long as he returned the phone, they'd replace it, so he was determined to get it back.
They pulled it out and it worked just fine. 12 hours in freezing water and no issues at all. He kept the phone for another year after that.
Hey just for some clarification, the iPhone 13 is actually MORE durable then pretty much every modern "Android Phone" out there. The reason the back is glass, is to allow wireless charging to pass though, since it can't pass through metal. Yes the back could be plastic, but then it would scratch easy and wouldn't feel as premium. And the cameras on flagship iPhones trade blows with flagship Androids. Also, I'm not biased. My personal phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G. (Long name, I know) I switched from an iPhone months ago. Try those exact tests with a Pixel 6 or an S21, and you will see that they aren't as durable as you might think.

The exact same, the tempered glass of any phone screen is a moh's hardness level of 6, and a coin and key is a level 4. A level 4 can't scratch a level 6 material.
