40% of 14k scrap price doesnt seem very fair to me but i guess that is her own fault for not doing a little research. i know some pawn shops would have just given her the 20. Me personaly i would have given her 90% of 14K scrap so around 700 for 20g of 14k gold

@@Seahawks42011 Absolutely. When you are dealing with a commodity like gold that has an easily accessible spot price, I don't think you should ask "did you have a number in mind?" You should simply weigh it out and then offer them a set percentage based on weight. The gold has an objective value that can be measured at any time. It's not like a PlayStation hat, the value of which is completely subjective.

How do you know if $300 was fair? $20 was clearly ridiculous, but there's a lot of weight in there, 14 and 18K, so good gold content. But yes, professional jewelers will typically pay you 20 cents on the dollar for gold based on spot price. And your dentist will probably steal your gold fillings making you pay for replacing it unnecessarily. The world is full of crooks - and idiots, who can't be bothered to research the value of what they are selling and getting a fraction of the worth. But seriously: telling a customer that she can spend her Morgan dollars in stores?!? Not getting any business from me, for sure.

I think there's only a couple of Eisenhowers worth over a buck. Don't quote me, and don't think you're rich, but I recall that there was/is two different Bicentennial Eisenhower dollars. The difference is in the text around the top of the coin on the reverse. One is more blocky than the other one. My mind further gets cloudy on which version is worth more money. Just Google it if you care. All I know is that I have one of the valuable ones in a proof set that I want to send it in and get it graded and slabbed.
