The Strange Disappearance Of Tom Green

- Tom Green was a comedian ahead of his time. From his wild man on the street antics, to start of Prank TV, Tom Green paved the way for shows like Jackass and Eric Andre. Coming from Canadian Public Access, Tom Green hit the airwaves on MTV and took Gen X by storm. He was everywhere, eventually making his way to the big screen with Road Trip and Freddy Got Fingered. But after some medical issues, Tom Green has seemingly taken a step back from the spotlight.

Freddy Got Fingered is unironically a fantastic piece of satire against the entire Hollywood industry. It's very, VERY meta in its approach but if you pay attention to the details, Tom's message becomes pretty clear and I respect him for it. I love that film.
Yup
so good
Red letter media goes into it
If you play the film backwards and listen to the audio, there are several moments where, if you listen closely, can hear the dialogue railing against the "norms" of Hollywood and mainstream entertainment. You may mistake the audio for garbled nonsense, but it's totally intentional artistic genius, yea totally.
@@tmoney142 It's a pretty obvious fuck you to the clueless people who handed him a boatload a cash. He's the original Rian Johnson.
He's on Instagram live all the time. Just walking his dog or wandering around his property and animals. Gets in chats with random people on the street.
I love that he's still out here
He was doing live Tiktoks making music for a while
Tom Green walked so Eric Andre could run
Eric Andre and many many others. There weren't "outrageous comedy shows" before him.
No. Tom Green was funny. Eric Andre is an actual idiot
Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job, and their other stuff also.

More like Tom ran so Eric Andre could crawl.
Being in the audience of a Tom Green Show taping, he did the 'pick up the ringing cellphone in a rotting carcass of a racoon cooked in a sun-cooked garbage bag' bit, the smell was insane, more than half the audience left, my friend puked and we were dying of laughter, tears and everything.
I love Tom, he's a Canadian legend
I was in a band in 2011 and Tom Green was preforming at the Comedy Zone the next night. There was a bar called Small Bar in the NC Music factory that my band and I used to play at right next to Comedy Zone. One night the owner of the bar was like “ a this guy play with you?” And Tom Green emerges from behind him. Tom for one stage and played drums while we played wonder wall lol. He wanted us to play metal
And we were like a pop/amaricana indie band. Then we smoked a bowl in the parking lot. Great memory lol.
He's a legend simply because he doesn't need a comeback. dude is living his best life and is respected for his lasting impact, perseverance to retain his creative freedom and his consistency of pushing boundaries. He's done his time being persecuted for his off-tilt humour and the amount of die-hard fans that have lasted over the years, even in his absence and throughout his flops, is a testament to the subjectivity of comedy. 'nufff said.
By making a comeback, Tom Green would be restricted creatively and likely deal with a whole lot of morally and creatively bankrupt people. Doing his own thing is likely better than the mental and physical health toll that hanging out with crappy people would lead to.
He truly was an innovator. He was Jackass before Jackass, podcasting before podcasting, doing street pranks and messing with people before it was everywhere. His style was to antagonize people and he was good at it so I wouldn't expect everyone to appreciate his humor, but he was definitely pushing things at a time when things needed to be pushed.
Very well said! I like this comment.
The "Daddy would you like some sausage" bit never disappoints 😂. I've defended Freddy Got Fingered over the years just because of that scene.
The Tom Green show was must see TV back in the day!
He made his name got big, married Drew,, she broke his heart, now he's trying to hold back the madness, grew up watching his stuff in the 90s, loved his band organized rhyme, all the way through high school here in Canada, I'm from Cobourg Ontario so out local 10 channel aired his stuff after 11pm
He's a legend

Check the O.R, you love the O.R.
Same, Port Hope though, 90's livin'
@@joegibbons9387 well helloooooooo fellow northumberlander :P
He honestly didnt go anywhere. Hes a comedian he had a great run in movies but in the end he never stopped doing comedy just the way hes delivering it has changed over time

Tom Green's stand up over the last 5-10 years is absolutely hilarious
This takes me back. I remember when the bum bum song reached number one on MTV's TRL. For context, TRL aka Total Request Live was an hour block on MTV that was live on afternoons right after school from Monday to Friday . People who call in and request music videos. The top 10 music videos requested would then battle each other on viewer call in votes. At the time, Nsync, Backstreet Boys, and Britney Spears CONTROLLED the top 3. Over several weeks, bum bum song was climbing the rankings. On the day that TRL invited Tom Green to the show, bum bum song happened to hit number one in the rankings. Tom Green announced on the show that he is officially retiring bum bum song from TRL.
He was also on Celebrity Big Brother in 2019 and Last One Laughing: Canada in 2022. Not big credits, but he’s still doing things on TV here and there.
His scenes in “Superstar” in 1999 were fucking hysterical. When Molly Shannon was singing and he screamed at her was so hilarious😂😂. Also Will Ferrell was funny
I was watching Superstar, and I realized, "That's Tom Green!" He was also good when he hosted Saturday Night Live
Freddy Got Fingered came out when I was 12 years old. I snuck in to see it without paying and I still love that movie even though I'm now 35.
I'm 39, and still love it!!!
Saying "herstory" unironically is peak cringe
I saw Tom’s stand up a few months ago (right before 4/20), and everyone loved him! He even brought his sweet doggie! His peak may have passed long ago, but he’s still doing a lot!
Tom Green is what Tom Anderson was for MySpace. Always our friend, but lost to time while others rose.
I used to hang out with Tom (and a bunch of other cool kids) at Zaphod’s in Ottawa. Bought him a pitcher of beer once, he never paid me back. LOL :)
Ok but in the mid 2013-15, Tom Green had a fantastic serious talk show called Tom Green Live that was really cool. He had cool guest on and the vibe was allot different from the silliness you see on his movies.
I remember that show because it's where Weird Al was told that his album Mandatory Fun had reached no. 1 in the Billboard Chart.
This channel never disappoints. Thanks for everything man.
Green was so so important. He was there in the early days of the internet. Hugely influential, and history will look back very kindly on him.
Tom Green is a Legend. I loved him and my mother thought at the time "This wierd guy?"
As his career kept going... He started dating Drew and my mother a fan of Classic films thought Tom might be kinda cool now that he was dating the girl in Firestarter. Then his songs on MTV...I had a Tom Green Calendar. I have one of his VHS tapes today. He was the perfect guy for dudes like u s at the time.
Highly underrated and under appreciated. My friends and I love Eric Andre but none of them know what I’m talking about when I bring Tom Green up.
I was wondering why family guy wasn't being mentioned until I was about 2/3s in and realized I was thinking of Seth Green 😅
Wait till you hear about another Canadian comedy legend, Red Green (no joke)
Omg red green!!@@KyleHarrisonRedacted
My favorite was the obscene pranks he pulled on his parents
He's so chill and laid back now. Nature walks with his pup and visits with his parents. Simple life. :)
Great job with this video, man! ❤
Hey Tom Green do a barrel roll...on air!
If you find yourself wondering what channel are you watching, just pay close attention, and if you hear the words, "was nothing short of a disaster," you'll know you're watching Nerdstalgic.
The thing people ignore is that Tom Green didn't want to do Freddy Got Fingered but was contractually obligated to do a movie. He definitely made the definition of a troll movie to give the middle finger to Paramount, strangely it came in 10 million dollars under budget and turned a small profit somehow. I guarantee if they could have gotten Tom Green forced into making another movie then they would have.
This gets spread around a lot, but it's not true at all. Green strongly wanted to make the movie, he wrote the script with Derek Harvie who he collaborated with before on the Tom Green show. The only thing he didn't want to do was make a *typical* comedy, which he did clash a bit with the studio in editing over. Additionally, the film was produced by Regency and distributed by Fox - no Paramount involvement whatsoever. Green made movies before and after FGF, Road Trip had already been huge for him after all. It wasn't forcing him to make a movie - he was cashing in on the movies he already made in order to get a passion project made. That passion project just happened to be deliberately polarizing and absurd! And also edited down and compromised a LOT in the editing phase sadly.
@@mangomation3945he didn't write road trip?
@@berzerkbankie1342 Nope, he just acted in road trip. It was Freddy Got Fingered that he wrote with Derek Harvie. He basically used the success of Road Trip and his popularity as an actor to convince Regency to let him write and direct his own movie, which he actually really wanted to make despite rumours to the contrary.
I think COVID really changed Tom Green from the past decades to what he is today. Although he stayed working as a stand up comedian, it wasn’t until covid that Tom started to finally close the door on Hollywood and set out to make his own life the center of focus. Constantly live streaming and documenting his travels and his journey back to his Canadian roots. A multi talented man, and creative person, Tom is always entertaining. Seeing him continue to troll his followers is always a joy.
Freddy Got Fingered was an instant classic and remains a classic and is a masterpiece.
I was the Tom Green of my School- Ya, I was never a Senior and I got a LOT of suspensions. it was a lot of fun though and all worth it for the Memories I have now- that was back in 2000 when he was popular. I always wondered where he went, thanks for letting me know :D
Great video.
He has His own channel on RUclips. He's been just chillin' lately. I Love the Guy, Thank You Tom Green. Real innovator of our times.
While watching him back in the 90s with my cousin my uncle would walk in turn the tv off and say "that guy is on drugs. Go outside and play." 😅 good times.
He was literally on Rogan again this year, has a RUclips channel, he hasn't disappeared at all...
Freddy Got Fingered was brilliant. It completely dismantled the gross out comedy film genre of its time to absolute perfection. No one knew he was doing it at the time.
I’ve been subscribed to him the whole way, mate.
He lives on a small farm outside of the Canadian capital Ottawa, where he started. He started a podcast and did a local show recently. I know of the show because I met a woman from Texas who came here for the show. Talk about a dedicated fan. I watched Tom all the time on local cable before he blew up.
His style of comedy was always hit or miss. Because sometimes was fucking hilarious but sometimes really forced and annoying, a prime example of this was him in “Road Trip”, a solid 2000s road trip comedy but his presence/role was both funny or cringe
The tour scenes are the his best part but the stuff with the mouse was weird. But the rest of the movie was amazing.

Tom Green is an absoukte LEGEND! fan from Costa Rica.
My Dad had a run in with Tom Green once. Told him to politely eff off lol
awesome
His funny style inspired me so much!
Hey man I’m a fan of your work. Do you still have your gaming channel? I forgot the name of it but you were my favorite video game reviewer!
I don't see a Tom Green as having a fall, I see him as way ahead of his time, and he did well for it, I spent many a nights in England with friends eagarly awaiting 10pm Slot in the UK he had on MTV on the weekends. We would get VHS recording of it just so we can watch it again and again.
His podcast was aired on the comedy channel in canada during the writers strike over a decade ago. It was awesome.
I think his Monica Lewinski special is his magnum opus.
Tom Green is LIVE like all the time!
I subscribe to his RUclips channel I think he's living his best life now he's relaxed and living in Canada close to his parents. You can still see his humor shine through allthough it's a little bit more mellowed. Whitch works well since he lives in a forest in Canada now.
He's up here in Canada, waiting to vote for his buddy Trudeau.
You all can do us a favour and come get him.
Honestly it’s nice to see he’s still working in a fashion, but he can enjoy some quiet out in Canada. Hope he keeps up his creativity
Several years ago, Hubby convinced me to watch Freddy Got Fingered, and I absolutely loved it. It was a criminally-underrated film due to how the meta jokes about certain genres seem to fly over the heads of people looking for easy jokes. I never really liked the old Tom Green Show, but it was likely on account of the format more than anything else. Decades later, the older Tom Green comes with wisdom and his views of homesteading, even if he does need help on occasion, makes him infinitely interesting to me.
I'm so glad he's out there just living his best life.
He was great on the Canadian version of Last One Laughing....him and Colin Mochrie dominated it pretty much, as one would expect.
I'd check it out if it's available there....I got like 4 international versions of it on Canadian Prime.
Wait, he was a guest judge on Canada's Drag Race and I didn't notice that... 👁️👄👁️
Its weird that Bob the Butler is what sticks out in my memory. I remember the lecture a senior butler gives and it culminates with Green standing on a roof top ledge perfectly still.
On tour in my city next month, didn't go anywhere
He's just doing his own thing now. He showed up at the place I used to work at this past January in Toronto with his dog and just hung out and played the piano that was there.
Idk I always thought Freddy Got Fingered was hilarious
After all this time and seeing all the stuff that he inspired, we can confirm this guy was ahead of it's time.
I found him again on RUclips he's got his own ranch or farm he's chilling up in Canada if I remember correctly, i commented on one of his videos and he reached out and told me that he's still around
He's still very present if you're a fan. He hasn't gone anywhere
This guy was so damn funny back when I was in high school. Completely forgot about him ever existing until I saw this video.
He had a great talk show that wasn't on this. He is a true professional.
Freddy is a classic in my books. Saw Tom at yuk yuks in Toronto a couple years ago and it was one of the funniest stand up sets I’ve ever seen. I want to be Steve.
I watch him and charlie on his RUclips channel, I like what he does on there just chilling living his life with a camera, sharing with us what he wants too.
It's strange that Tom Green was even a thing. It's stranger still that he lasted as long as he did. What's even stranger than anything else is how this Nerdstalgic channel is so hit and miss in its content quality. 🤷
He still streamed almost all aspects of his life and during the pandemic something cracked in him.. You could tell he was done with LA and the fakeness of it all. He then went on a long road trip and eventually moved back to his roots
i used to love tom green growing up.
I think he's still visible. Why, what have you heard?
Don’t care what anyone says, Tom Green is funny as hell. He definitely has his own style.
The Godfather of podcasts
Hes a really cool chill guy nowadays
I have him on Facebook and RUclips.. he's still here
Damn... Apparently im an idiot and didnt realize the Tom Green that did a comedy set down the street from my house in Hamilton was this Tom Green lmao
You forgot to mention Organized Rhyme. 🙁
He played an awesome cult leader in Dark Sun, a ridiculous movie where Hitler rides a T-Rex.
oh hell yes
"cans in the trees, i love yoooooooo"
"The Real Slim Shady," of all things, was organically playing on the radio a few weeks ago, and as I took in the nostalgia Jonah-Hill-in-the-21-Jump-Street-opening style, I was like, "Oh, yeah, Tom Green was a thing there for a sec and such a proto-lots of guys."
Today I thought I saw him on the street and I thought 'Is that him?' And now this video. I'm shook. 🤯
Tom Green is following you

Yup, he came home to Canada and is living his best life
Let the man rest and his art stand
I don’t see two LeBarons…
He's on TikTok live streaming 24/7
He is podcasting and doing stand up weekly, he isn't missing, you just don't know how to find him
The first date I went on with my now wife was to see Road Trip in theatres.
*Cinema. Theatres host live performances.
Yes LPC shoutout
Wait what? Freddy Got Fingered is in the Criterion library?!
3 new things are coming from tom, on IMDB there's 3 up and coming things in the producer tab for him.
He's a good actor. I really like him in B-movie and C-movie roles
I still sing the theme song all the time, cause it’s my favorite show… it’s the Tom green show
My husband always thought he looked like Tom Greene, when i was younger Drew Barrymore was my lookalike (i wish i still looked like her).
It was interesting that our lookalikes married. It's always unfortunate when things don't work out. (But none of us are in people's marriages so we can never really know why)
Although, I met him through FGF and I must admit that it is the worst movie I have ever seen in my life, I love the style of his show and his legacy in Jackass and Eric Andre
If one day I became a movie director, I would want Tom Green to be one of the characters
"IT'S MY HOOVES!!"
