    Quite impressive how the ZDX appeared to eat up those snow miles. Glad you made it safe out the other side... last time I saw anything like that we were in a FWD Bolt EV, white knuckling it to the first available exit. Thanks for the road report.

      @@plugandplayEV leaving I-90 going the wrong way up an on-ramp because everything was jammed up was one of sketchier parts of the trip, and you can see that in the video. Another tricky bit was when we were the only car on the highway later when it was dark, and the snow was really coming down, it just made it hard to discern where I ought to steer to stay on the true path.

    If you put snow tires on the thing it will be perfect. I've found even with FWD cars you can out maneuver any truck.

      @@flexor212000 that would be my guess as well about snow tires on this vehicle. And it’s definitely been my experience that snow tires on any vehicle, even low slung front wheel drive cars will turn their capability way up to handle horrible snow conditions. Probably 15 years ago I had studded winter tires on my 2008 Honda Fit Sport, and I was in and out of snow squalls on the west side of the 270 outer belt in central Ohio. So conditions were at times fine for everyone to go 55 mph or so. But entering a low visibility, heavy snowfall squall, I suddenly saw a multi-car pile up blocking all three lanes and the breakdown lane but the snow covered grass on the right was open. I was in the left lane and knew I would be toast from the other traffic coming up behind me and I only had seconds to react. I steered hard right, reduced speed to about 30 mph, and drove through about 6 or more inches of powder in that grass on the right. As I cleared the pile of cars I saw another car flying past my right into a fence and the bushes. I was able to keep motoring along and get back on the highway past the pile up not having been smushed and having Lord knows what happen to me and that little car.

    Thanks for sharing an amazing video (as this was the only unanswered concern for my wife and I, concerning the Acura ZDX). Which Acura ZDX model was utilized for this video journey (the RWD A-spec, the AWD A-spec, or the Type-S model)?

    • @skyemalcolm
      @skyemalcolm  Месяц назад +1

      @@quintonmikell5677 this is an AWD A-Spec with Michelin Primacy all-season tires as it was delivered to me at my local Acura dealer. At the time of the video it had about 2000 miles on the odometer so the tires were quite fresh.

    Nope. I have a fading memory of northern life. I am fine now being made fun of for wearing a winter coat in 45 degree weather & it is my own brain making fun of me. Blood has thinned from living south of the mason-dixon line for too long. Looks like a ton of fun though. Glad you were okay and the car did well.

      Thanks Walter! Yeah I love driving in the snow to be honest. I don’t get to do it much lately because while Columbus is quite northerly we just don’t get much snow for whatever reason. And if you do ever take your Lyriq north I would assume it would perform well.

      Tsk, soft southerners with their sun shirts and one-inch of snow emergencies... strap a roof rack to that Volvo and drive north, as the Scandinavians intended! 🙃⛷

    Ha, I was driving from Toronto back to Columbus on that same day. Prefect weather until the south side of buffalo. We were forced off the turnpike between ferdonia and Erie pa. Side roads were not any better than the highway. Then once heading south Cleveland it was snowless again. Hopefully you got see the Ionna Chargery at the new Sheetz when you stopped at the Mentor Sheetz to charge.

    • @skyemalcolm
      @skyemalcolm  29 дней назад

      @@iamcdn28 no we ended up stopping at the Erie Supercharger, and then hopped down to another supercharger on the SE corner of Cleveland where as you say it was snowless again. That’s actually where the thumbnail was taken. Well at an EVgo that was full so we then went to the SC.
      We must have been on the same roads that whole time. We too made it back on to I-90 around Erie.
      Have you checked out my other videos on the IONNA Springfield Ohio Rechargery?

    How was the battery during the snow? How much range were you getting?

    • @skyemalcolm
      @skyemalcolm  19 дней назад +1

      @@jennasweets2682 we had full power and I don’t think the battery got too cold because we were hopping from fast charger to fast charger along the highway. The efficiency and range were pretty bad before slowing down and hitting the really slow conditions documented here. Before and after that we faced wet treated roads, 40 mph head winds, and the fact that I’m a lead foot driver. For the whole trip we used Google built in to find and route to the chargers. Google built in is integrated with the car’s battery management system and therefore knows the state of charge, can send a signal to start warming the battery before a charger if needed to facilitate fast charging, called Fast Charge Prep. We also used manual battery Fast Charge Prep on the way to chargers so that even when we hit Erie and Cleveland in the brutal cold, snow and wind we pulled 190 kW charging speed. I recently posted a video of how to use Google Built in and compare it vs using the miles remaining.

    The acura engineers need to go back to the drawing board with sound isolation for 60k base price you should get dual layer glass at the very least
