I am still amazed at the level of logic that was performed by these complex wire spring relays and their associated components. Amazing that anyone could work out the logistics behind all this

25 years in telecom and it’s the non solid state technology that fascinates me the most. Thank you as always Phil for demonstrating this and sharing your vast knowledge.

This is really simple technology compared to what we have today however, it's amazing to see how this works, how efficient it was, and how well it works all these years later. Thanks, Phil for making this wonderful technology available to us via video. I really love your videos!

I remember this system being used for ANI in GTE areas in Souther California. I belive the code was 114. Handy for identifying trunks when in a closet!

Where did the voice samples come from, is it done similar to an automated intercept? I’ve heard of that being done with magnetic drums and also optical film to play the recordings.

While there were optical film versions, his is digital. You can tell by the voice.

What does the Cognitronics machine, itself, look like?

@@tieline1333 Ah OK. Guess I was lookin' for the machine that was mentioned in some of Evan Doorbell's programs. The one that had the digits recorded on photographic film.
