I thought she was laughing because Angela the character wrote Hot Dog Fingers, I didn’t realise it was a character break 😅 The characters of the show were more human in the beginning of the series so I thought the characters were laughing
I love that Steve Carell had no idea that the cast was going to sing to him but I just realize that since Steve also improvised the kiss between him and Oscar in that early season that that line Oscar sings “I forgive you for kissing me” can actually be from actor to actor and not just from Michael to Oscar, that’s so funny!

Most of them are scripted. Jenna and Angela describe that the script is usually well written and detailed. Even the unexpected ones. Stuff like Jim picking up Pam and her shirt coming up in the karate match even the shirt coming up was scripted.

0:30 Angela Kinsey is very underrated... You can see in the clip (and in most bloopers) that she couldn't control her laugh 90% of the times... Still, she had to play a cold shrew... I don't know how she pulled that off

I love how Angela is always religiously oblivious. She didn't focus on Michael's very obvious plea for help, she instead chose to focus on him saying Jan was the devil.

I'm in Hell!" which is Michael and Jan (poorly) subtly voicing grievances with each other while upholding a scene of civility to their guests. Michael is clearly trying to tell the others "I'm unhappy, please help me" without saying it, and making it seem like he's just playing along with Jan. If any of that seems inaccurate to you, please tell me how you observed this scene. Because I can't really think of any other way this could be taken.

I like how both the Michael-Oscar kiss and the Goodbye Michael song are unscripted where Oscar says he forgives Michael for kissing him. It’s like it’s the real Oscar telling Steve he forgives him for that.
Steve is a master of improv - his cues to allow for his partner to understand his setup and where to go. The kiss with Oscar for instance. Steve sets it all up with “I’m gonna take this up a notch” - this allows his partner to expect something unexpected and to not show any reaction or tense up in response. The kiss improv is not only naturally hysterical but masterfully crafted on the fly

I still think that Melora Hardin's performance as Jan was much above excellent. Her screen presence was absolutely magical. The way she carried herself, her expressions, her speech - everything was flawless. They should have let her character stay regular in the later seasons too. Brilliant actress ❤❤
For real! Her expressions were EVERYTHING, I couldnt keep a straight face not a single second she was on the show and she got the hardest laughs out of me!
That would have been a logistical nightmare. Having to figure out all the camera set ups on the fly and not knowing when would be the best time to shoot certain scenes and if they could stay on any type of schedule. Not to mention the person in charge of continuity would just die from everything they'd have to keep track of. Sounds like a fun idea but it would never work practically
So the kiss was improv.. So then giving Oscar a company car, vacation, and everything that followed was literally added to their script... That's pretty insane
The long vacation was added so that the real Oscar could work on another project and then come back to the show, according to a podcast interview he gave recently.
He may have gotten that anyway cuz doing all the stuff before that was technically harassment and Jan had already told him that Oscar let it slide the first time but could have pursued a lawsuit so I seriously doubt that it was rewritten bc of the kiss
The exercise ball was written to be stabbed, and it did on many takes but it deflated slowly. This was the last take and it popped and deflated so quickly that John Krasinski said that that was the hardest he'd ever seen someone hit the ground. You can see (and hear) john exhale and jump out of frame in surprise at how fast Rainn hit the floor.

Stanley laughing at the medical insurance episode was actually not that far from his character. Remember him losing it when Michael started roasting the entire office?
After Jim pops the orb for a second you can see Stanley looking utterly shocked, I think that's why they zoom in so fast because the actor genuinely didn't know what to do or what was going on.
Evidently in rehearsal, the orb was supposed to slowly deflate and Dwight gradually sinks out of sight. In this take, the scissors hit a seam and and down he went!
Because it was supposed to slowly deflate, like they did a lot of tests and it only blew if punctured in a specific point, which Krasinski casually hitted hahahaha
improvisation doesn't mean it's been filmed in one shot. they still might have taken a hundred shots and selected the best one. except for maybe the inflated ball since they didn't have spare props if they didn't expect Jim to break it. and in that scene you can hear muffled laugh and smiles.

My fiancé and I have watched the Office many times over the years. We even binged it while she was going into labor to pass the time. Many good memories with this show. Will always be one of my favorites.

Jim's actor actually said he's never seen someone his the floor so hard. You can see Jim jump backwards and put his hand on his mouth, as well as hearing someone else laugh for a brief moment after it popped.
I learned a few years back that Michaels send off song was unknown to him, so his reaction is genuine. When you see the pain he has leaving this family behind he has worked with for so many great years, it brings you to tears.

Saw a interview thing talking about it, it was supposed to be a slow deflation, which is what happened in the other times they practiced it. But this time it just instantly popped which is why the reactions were so genuince

Acting. And pretty much the whole rest of the cast were laughing. She was probably filmed pretending to laugh about a dozen times.
She actually has a hilariously dry sense of humor; she's toured college campuses (including UCONN, my daughter sent me clips of her show) So funny!

I'm in Hell!" which is Michael and Jan (poorly) subtly voicing grievances with each other while upholding a scene of civility to their guests. Michael is clearly trying to tell the others "I'm unhappy, please help me" without saying it, and making it seem like he's just playing along with Jan. If any of that seems inaccurate to you, please tell me how you observed this scene. Because I can't really think of any other way this could be taken.

Steve is a master of improv - his cues to allow for his partner to understand his setup and where to go. The kiss with Oscar for instance. Steve sets it all up with “I’m gonna take this up a notch” - this allows his partner to expect something unexpected and to not show any reaction or tense up in response. The kiss improv is not only naturally hysterical but masterfully crafted on the fly

I still think that Melora Hardin's performance as Jan was much above excellent. Her screen presence was absolutely magical. The way she carried herself, her expressions, her speech - everything was flawless. They should have let her character stay regular in the later seasons too. Brilliant actress ❤❤

they should have done an entire episode of just improv, trying to collectively build and maintain a plotline throughout an episode with no script.
That would have been a logistical nightmare. Having to figure out all the camera set ups on the fly and not knowing when would be the best time to shoot certain scenes and if they could stay on any type of schedule. Not to mention the person in charge of continuity would just die from everything they'd have to keep track of. Sounds like a fun idea but it would never work practically

So the kiss was improv.. So then giving Oscar a company car, vacation, and everything that followed was literally added to their script... That's pretty insane

The long vacation was added so that the real Oscar could work on another project and then come back to the show, according to a podcast interview he gave recently.
I think they offered those perks so that Oscar wouldn't sue the company for Michael outing him, not about the kiss.
He may have gotten that anyway cuz doing all the stuff before that was technically harassment and Jan had already told him that Oscar let it slide the first time but could have pursued a lawsuit so I seriously doubt that it was rewritten bc of the kiss

This was the last take and it popped and deflated so quickly that John Krasinski said that that was the hardest he'd ever seen someone hit the ground. You can see (and hear) john exhale and jump out of frame in surprise at how fast Rainn hit the floor.

improvisation doesn't mean it's been filmed in one shot. they still might have taken a hundred shots and selected the best one. except for maybe the inflated ball since they didn't have spare props if they didn't expect Jim to break it. and in that scene you can hear muffled laugh and smiles.

My fiancé and I have watched the Office many times over the years. We even binged it while she was going into labor to pass the time. Many good memories with this show. Will always be one of my favorites.

Jim's actor actually said he's never seen someone his the floor so hard. You can see Jim jump backwards and put his hand on his mouth, as well as hearing someone else laugh for a brief moment after it popped.
