1) What Buddhists worship & bow to

What is the purpose of bowing to a Buddha statue? Can we bow to statues of other religious figures?
When we see something beautiful and meaningful in a statue of a religious figure then we can express our approval and recognition and worship these qualities with a bow.
As a Buddhist Ajahn Brahm says that he worships virtue, peace and compassion (wisdom & kindness) when he bows to a Buddha statue.

Yeah, words of wisdom:) I remember one of colleagues dont want to do Yoga as she is Christian :), May be not seeing virtue!
