Another great video!!!! Question for you Matt....why do you fish with 50lb line (that probably breaks at 65lbs) on a reel that only has 10kg of drag? In the states people rarely slow jig with anything over 30lbs. This is because the reels we use for slow jigging usually have around 10kg of drag...the hooks we use are lighter and can't handle the high pressure... and the thinner line allows us to fish deeper in more current. You are a way better fisherman than I will ever be....so want to learn why you use the heavier line.
@@PelagicPursuit89 not saying what you’re doing is wrong, it works but just from my spj research into how the se asians do it (which is the proper way apparently), you’re meant to use the rod for jigging the lure and use the reel for fighting the fish. Once fish is on, hold rod tip down and wind the handle like a winch. Rod shouldn’t lift up at all to “pump and wind”. Watch how Mick Hasset fights his fish. He does a great job. Cheers Matty 🤘

There diff kind of spj rods. Not all rods fight with reels. Mostly japanese rods fight with reels. But with bigger fish it's almost impossible to do that
Chinaman (they called them striped reds) are no take because they have ciguatera poison. Although an old decky told me once he’s eaten them and they taste great and he didn’t get sick. He reckons fisheries are saving them for when the reds, trouts and Nannies all run out. Everything else they could have kept, no idea why they threw back the jobby or the big red.

Reef fish tend to head to the reef so 50lb leader helps with abrasion imo.

I use PE3 on my Shimano Ocea jigger f custom with 50lb breaking strength, but is thinner than 30lb pound braid in the US. I order it from Japan.

its called a Red Emperor we have a species called a large mouth Nannygai which is very similar to your Red snapper
