Thank you for the episodes I really enjoy them. I am always impressed how when your Dad if fishing with you that you go to great lengths to make it easier for him and now you are bringing the 3rd generation into the team. That is one of the great things with fishing it can be enjoyed by all despite age differences. Tight lines always.
Thanks for the comment Glenn, I love taking the old man out and doing what he did for me! I love that I’m able to take him out and show him what he shaped me into and teaching him what I’ve learnt! And to be able to pass it all down to my own boys is something I’m proud of!!! I’m glad you enjoy the videos!
Hahaha man I thought that was something epic too! Oh and banter, what banter 😅 I had to edit all the proper good stuff out 😂😂😂 too many Fs and Cs flying around as well as the shark donger 😂 what a trip
Thanks mate, yeah it’s good fun playing with a new lure concept and getting the feel for it! Especially with its conversion rate on some of the more difficult species. I just heard it caught 2 wrasse for one of the blokes I spoke to on Facebook and In Matt’s new video Nolzy gets 3 good reds straight up on it! Pretty good track record only 1 week out!
Usually just tie a granny, go through the lure, back through the granny, then 1.5 turns around the main line then back through the granny.. works a treat 👌🏻
@@Micksgonefishing Cheers mate Sure i seen that in ya last video Was surprised how few turns you tie it off with But obviously it holds with just a few Proof in the video 👍
I don’t know if your allowed to say but I think from memory did you used to use oceans legacy jigging rods. Did you just change up for sponsorship. I’m looking for a slow pitch rod got a OL casting rod and I’m impressed with quality for price. Was hoping to get your thoughts. If your nomad sponsored or whatever and can’t say then all good 👍🏽
I’m not sponsored for rods or tackle at all mate, I am sponsored by BKK and Tide Apparel and that’s it. I’ve still got my legacy rods but I’ve had them for a long time and I’ve been playing with some other stuff lately. A standard slow pitch rod for vibing isn’t really ideal, that’s why I’ve gone to the heavy tipped pe 3-6 nomad rod for vibing. Hoping to help develop the ultimate vibing rod soon as I feel that’s something that’s missing in the market…
@@Micksgonefishing copy that cheers for the feed back. And yeah I vibe more then I slow pitch really I was hoping to try get a one size fits all jigging vibing overhead outfit around the Pe4 mark just to save money. But may not be realistic
@@Micksgonefishingany news on that designated vibe rod ? I see nomad seacore range have one I haven’t had a look at it in person yet but you’d think being specifically being designed for the lure it’d have to go alright
I notice these squidtrek came with assist hook. But will it kill the action if you replace them with a bigger assist hook? Also if you have a smaller size such as 110 and 90😭, will it kill the action if you add sinker at the bottom using that split ring for faster sinker?
I haven’t played with the setup enough to know what the sinker below will do but I think it will kill the action a little. A slight hook upgrade is fine!
I don't know if Nomad is giving you these jigs to use or not, but at over $20-$30 buck a pop or more for the biggest ones, I can't see using them over real squid or a big tube jig if you're going to be breaking them off all the time like in this video. I love the look and how they seem to work, but ouch every time they snap off!
It’s a gamble, bait = smaller, less desirable fish whereas lures are like a live bait when worked effectively so less undesirable bycatch, at $50 a block of squid I’d rather the challenge of catching a trophy fish on a lure, minus the bycatch. It depends how much you like catching small fish I suppose…
I agree, they are expensive but they work really well. They outfished jigs and bait last time I went out. Bait was getting sharked on 200lb leader pe6, jigs were catching the occasional fish. Squidtrex catching quality reef fish just sitting in the rod holder lol. They need to adjust the small swuidtrex though because the hook gets caught on itself.
at this case might as well get your rod and reel from Walmart too. Fishing is not cheap can’t complain about pricey lures when rods and reels are top tier in your arsenal .
@@JoseS-h6fwe don’t have Walmart in Australia. Also, the other gear you mentioned isn’t consumable. If you buy a good rod and reel, you can use it for years!
I haven’t caught those species in Aus here but if it were me I’d be going the white glow or the brown speckle, both bright colours which will attract attention 👌🏻
Just been on a long fishing trip and used the squidtrex extensively - didnt find them very good - triggerfish chewed the tentacles off. Fished no better than a normal soft plastic and jighead which is far cheaper especially if sharks are around.
Sounds like you got a few fish then, if the triggers were that bad then you’d naturally change to a cheaper offering if it worked just as good, in the last year I’ve used them I find they’re better on quiet days when not a lot else is happening
@Micksgonefishing yeah, it's great to see you with your Dad, I wish I had mine to take along but he's long gone, we have to make the most of every day, right? I was going to mention it was no surprise you had a shave as you didn't want to show up your dads greys! All the best to you mate, keep the video coming. Are the Percys in range for you?

matt made the same kind of video fishing the squid trex and he noticed the same thing about the squid. the fish respond better after burning it then stopping it abruptly.

Haha yeah, it’s all good I only put up what I’m willing to share! I’ve fished that spot for years and in 20-30 visits I’ve only caught proper epic stuff there twice. It’s very hit and miss and it takes a lot of learning to crack it so good luck poaching it if you don’t understand what ya looking at, as to why and when it fires. I love this place hey, so many rewarding options to put your effort into from the creeks to the reef 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Hahah people looking for ya marks 🤣 At least there giving you the courtesy to not pull right up beside ya or making a B line for ya from 5k's out like they normally do in the channel 🤣
