Seeing stock photos in high quality without any trace of watermarks is such a miracle, it's like an once in a life time kinda thing.
Sometimes you see them with a watermark re-added (e.g. the spiffing brit adds his own shutterstock-like watermark).
You see them all the time.. but you don't notice.. because they aren't watermarked.... Hence the use of watermarks..
We have Sam to thank for that.
Yea there are a lot of channels that use stock footage regularly. half as interesting, that weird guy at Wendover Productions, legal eagle, teir zoo. Honestly most educational channels use them for most of their photos
You actually see them all the time, you just never notice it because they get touched up for ads and shit. A shocking amount of ads are composed of stock video and pictures.

Sam understands an angle of this improv format that the best versions of Whose Line always did: the host and contestants are always viable targets.
It is so true. He is an insanely good host. He just seems to truly enjoy the format and has no ego about it.
Honestly, I have laughed more at Dropouts unscripted stuff than I have at any improv since the heydey of Whose Line.
They are waaaaaay better at this than basically anyone in the market right now.
I love how he's using "yes, and" here as the host, even if it's just through laughing and designating a winner.
I didn't realize, but you nailed it. Half the fun of Whose Line was Drew getting his share of poking fun and that same dynamic isn't there with the new host.

I think it's not uncommon for committing to the bit of it being stock photos to use the watermarked version even when paying for the license

The Spiffing Brit used to rip them with the watermark for his videos but then started paying Shutterstock's fees.
People started saying they missed the watermarks so he made his own to overlay on the photos.
Gonna add why he couldn’t use shutterstock with the watermark afterwards is because despite the watermark those are still copyrighted and you do need to pay a fee to use them and if you already paid the fee you are not allowed to use the ones with watermark anyways. Which is why spiffing brit has his own personal watermark on them. This is based off memory so this is probably not accurate but thats the general gist of it why spiffing brit has to do what he does and also why sam also has to pay the commercial license anyways.
The issue would have been he was using them in Monetised videos, which means he was profiting off of the 'Free' version images with watermarks but generally free-use licenses only apply to non-commercial use
You should add a subscription tier for a single person to be the "Dropout Subscriber who pays for all the stock photos"
After all, as Raph explained, Dropout is just a fancy Patreon, so why not go for tiers... ;)

commercial stock supscriptions or single commercial licenses are very expensive though, I think it's a realistic estimate

People forget that you arent really supposed to use stock photos with the watermarks. A few stock sites allow it, but most sites will still go after you if someone reports you for it.

Nobody is saying "you payed for it, lame", we all KNOW you still have to pay, they are SPECIFICALLY getting on him about paying EXTRA to not have a watermark. You can use somebody else's pic with a watermark if you get permission (often including money). To get FURTHER the ORIGINAL *WITHOUT* the watermark _by paying extra money to which sam admitted_ is what this tangent is about

It partially depends on what you are using it for.
Posting it as a reaction image in a chatroom? Probably okay. Using it as a prompt for an improv sketch web show? Probably not
@@kinyutaka It also REALLY depends on whether the stock image has been donated, is in the public domain or is from a private photographer who uses this as (one of) their main incomes.
Technically, the watermarked ones are somewhat public domain due to them being freely accessible. You could literally use their website as a source for prompts and scroll through, while encountering these pictures. And especially since they are basically advertising for free.
The main difference depends on the terms of service before downloading. Which requires an account. (Shutterstock amongst a lot of others have added the requirement to log in with an account before you can download anything, but even that is past 5-6 years).

You know, this is a great improvement over the experience with college humor in terms of quality. The skits were funny, but game changer is really good and the entire dropout thing fosters a real community, thus a loyal fan base who will constantly help fund you. Really cool how that is even possible now

Huuuuum actuallyyy, you wouldn’t be allowed to use it even if you left the watermarks, copyright still applies, they just put the watermarks on the image they post publicly to make them less usable, and more importantly, precisely so that if you still use them and they decide to sue you, you won’t be able to claim you didn’t know they were theirs.
