Great work as usual! Couldn’t agree more about the vertec, love it so far aside from the attachment point catching. Also side note, great work at ITCC! Always fun to watch!
Can you do an in depth video about traversing the tree on srt? I usually climb on drt especially with reductions because i find it much more difficult to get out on branch walks on srt when the branches are thin and cant take your weight, pulling slack through and positioning is also difficult, i would definitely like to learn how to climb well on srt because on big reductions where my rope has to be redirected many times itd be really useful
@@hcwaffles8912 I am planing over the Xmas break to make a basic intro vid to SRT. Like my DRT vid but for SRT so hopefully there maybe something in that vid that will help 👍🏻
@mickarblife i think ive got to grips with the basics, i was hoping for more advanced stuff, especially todo with branch walking on branches that are less stable and incapable of taking your weight, i did a 2m reduction on a huge tpo beech a while back and i had to redirect my anchor so many times yet i also needed to get really far out on the limbs, opted todo that on srt but i found it very difficult getting that far out and back in again, i eventually switched to drt and changed my anchor a bunch of times to avoid too many redirects, either way ill still watch the video and hopefully it has useful tips for me, cheers man, merry Christmas ☺️
So much more than a 2m reduction in the end then! 2m reduction of a tree that size is pruning saw work and small diameter cuts. They’re huge cuts. Sounds like it may’ve needed such a heavy reduction due to the inclusion at least!
Nice work on that beech. got the vertec and it does pinch or rub the carabiner, depending on what one you use, as some are thicker than others, only done 1 climb on it so far, seemed a little jumpy on setting 3 on kalimba. think 4 might be better. seemed to be pretty crap in drt config too, seems to miss orientate the biners when using a foot ascender and seems to pinch more. though i guess its mainly an srt device. I'm wondering if the bottom friction plate need to bed in a little to allow more room for the biner when tending, I've never had the old rope runners, I run the hitch hiker xf device mainly which still uses a prusik hitch, kinda prefer that device so far. though need more time on the vertec
@@Dolmar-Rick ye there will be a bedding in period but I recon you need to have it on a higher setting like 6-7 as kalimba is a fat rope 11.9mm. I have used some rounded biners which seem better like the rock exotica RockO. But see how you go
Was wanting to buy one of these Vertec's for its adjustability. But then i watched a recent Reg Coates video with him saying his new device will be out next year. Hope Notch doesn't mess it up! I'll wait for that one to come out.
@@fellowbrotherinwar do you mean when doing pruning cuts on the main stem? I really try not to do any large cuts near the stem as yes would be bad for the tree but doing reduction work like this is fine
Thx , just saw some reviews of it . Good climbing boots , especially for limb walk. Good videos . Wondering why not much climber wearing old school leather boots .
Nice, that's two major problems I've seen with the vertec. Veteran tree service in the states had a video recently where he showed if your rope isn't directly below you it made it very difficult to descend on the device which definitely has the potential to be very annoying. Coupled with the carabineer affecting tending, not inspiring confidence in the new device. Nice job in the beech
@@jackbrehony1 I have not had the issue yet of dragging my tail with the vertec like you mentioned. But maybe cos I’m more use to devices that have more friction anyways like the wrench and freexion that I don’t notice it
Wouldn't the tail drag warning for the RRP also apply to the Vertec? Dragging tail with a Roperunner without a mini biner beneath or something to prevent the device from perma collapsing and dropping you to the ground isn't advisable, it's in the manual One of the initial reports of the collapse while dragging tail involved a guy falling 30 ft on to a roof. No shade though, just be aware
@@SeymourArboriculture it’s perfectly fine to drag the tail through a redirect nothing the manual saying you can’t do this. Only thing it says in the manual is not to pull on the tail so for example creating a 3-1 advantage with a cam or something above the rrv this would not be allowed

@mickarblife yeah, kalimba doesn't feel that thick in the hand compared to squir. Which is 11.5, I'll have to try on a higher setting.👍

@mickarblife bro it's literally on page 11 of the manual, and friction across your redirect is the absolute same thing as pulling on the tail
classic shithousery from notch! knew there would be an issue with this as soon as i saw it released. How can a company miss such an obvious issue?!
*knew there would be an issue of some sort with the device. Not the carabiner issue specificaly.
