I believe in always being a tourist where I live, no matter how long I've been there. Makes life much more fun. And I never really date per se. If you are social, go to parties and hang with friends you will meet someone. Formal dating is so uncomfortable and rarely leads to anything. Good luck Abby and enjoy life! 💖

The last section of this video make me teary 🥲 wasn’t expecting that, I’m so happy you had family during that time who rallied for you and and had your back. That’s really nice to have. And enjoy your alone time in this phase, I’ve been married 8 years in August and we’ve been together 13 years in May, we have a 4 year old and my alone time is almost non existent. If I can get a 20 min shower, that’s heaven lol But I love it also. I had a work conference recently and it was an overnight conference and that hotel room all to myself was the best thing ever 😂😂

I loved this format! And, I'm 49 so my kids are around your age, my oldest is 25. Your memories recovering after a breakup, and the way you relayed it... Tears. I can say, this many years on the other side of it all... First, you will always have some portion of that that you carry with you because I believe that when you feel something so deeply, whether joy, pain or other, it leaves a mark on your soul. I can also say that as my children have gone through that that watching your children go through that type of pain, my children are my heart... So watching them and being unable to do a lot to help them heal, or not being able to just "fix it" for them like I could when they were young, that for me was incredibly painful as well. But the happiness that was waiting for me, and the happiness that was waiting for my kids is so so so much better than anything else experienced prior. It's there for you too and once you get there, you just know

I was drawn to watch this video because I’m from Chicago. Grew up on the NW side, and later lived in buildings on LSD and then on Clark Street, across from the zoo. I LOVED being so close to the lake! Sometimes I could hear when the lions were being fed, early in the morning. Watching sailboats go by from my kitchen table. Most miss sitting on the rocks, just off the water, either daydreaming, thinking, or just mindlessly staring off into space. Oh, how I relish those memories of walking home from my job downtown and stopping to get my feet in the sand, or stopping at the Children’s Petting Zoo to feed the ducks. I’m glad I pressed the play button on this vlog, not only for the walk down memory lane it affords, but because the advice you gave is all wonderful. I’m married now, living on the East Coast, hoping to one day move to Vermont. As someone who is very introverted, one tip I learned along the way is to not let my fears keep me from what could potentially be a wonderful thing. I used to get scared when I really liked someone. So scared, in fact, that I would unconsciously sabotage myself. I know that’s not always something that is easily controlled - at least for me. You seem much more outgoing and confident, but to anyone who may be scared of the whole dating-thing, taking things slowly really is the best advice. Along with NOT not giving a potentially great relationship a chance for fear of getting hurt. Thanks, Abbey! 🌸😊

Thank you for sharing your heart and hurts. One of my kiddos is dealing with challenges and I have learned not to assume everything is okay but to ask and to listen and to be tuned in. The signals are not always obvious. Glad your family gathered to support you. 💙 I loved that your sis put on your favorite podcast. When my kid was having dark days we watched a lot of MASH reruns, and sometimes just giggling about that spurred some great heart to hearts.

Abbey I just love anything you post, you’re so authentic and true to yourself. Thanks for sharing your experiences, and as you said keep treasuring the times that you spent by yourself, those moments won’t come back as often in the future once you find your partner and decide to have a family. Believe me you will missed them (I stayed single and lived by myself until I was 36, now I have a lovely family but there are times where I just wanna send them away a little bit so I can chill out hahaha). I just got out of a 4 year relationship. The out of body experience you described when you’re initially alone is so true. It’s hard when all your friends are engaged or married, but you’re right this is a temporary life phase. I’m planning a solo road trip to see places I haven’t been and friends I haven’t connected with in some time and I’m hoping that will give me the jolt I need to remind myself there is so much more to life than our relationships.

The story about your family coming to get you is so wonderful - THAT is what it means to really love someone and be a family. You sound like you're doing great taking care of yourself and keeping your priorities straight. Dating is fun but exhausting, so good for you for making sure you are really certain about a guy before you get too serious. 💜 Show yourself compassion and please keep up the great YT content! (And now for my "big sister" moment - try not to stress about turning 28 and being "late 20s!" I went on my first date with my now-husband the day before my 28th bday. Late 20s is a great time of life and a great time to meet someone, and when you meet the right guy he will value you as the treasure you are.)

When my last serious relationship ended my family and friends were literally my rock. Right after the initial shock of the break up I just sobbed for hours with my mom. Pretty much for a couple months after I would totally burst into tears randomly. (It was not your average break up, it was really traumatic circumstances.) I remember getting into my best friends car the day after the break up to go move out of my apartment with my ex and just crying while she drove. Thank god I had these people to help me get through that time. They let me wallow and feel my pain and then they supported me pursuing positive methods of healing and distraction.

I moved out of the home I shared with my ex (it’s weird to even call him that). We were high school sweetheart, lived together for 8 years, 12 years total. I moved in with my parents, who converted their garage for me to have a place to live. My own mom did most of the work ❤️ I’m glad I’m not living alone bc I don’t think I could handle the loneliness

Abbey, I live in Minneapolis and when I first moved here I met a lot of my friends through River Valley Church. If you can find a church in Chicago with thriving small groups, you'll make a ton of friends (guys + girls) and then inevitably meet even more people. Plus a lot of people in these groups are single (some married), so you'll have a range of friends to uplift and support you. I've made some amazing friends through River Valley and my small group still meets even though some of us don't even go to that church anymore. We've just built such great friendships.

I will say, as someone 12+ years older than you, as you get older your friendships fizzle over time - some move away, have families, everyone has careers, they are busy, become homebodies, etc. I definitely don't have the same amount of friends as I did in my 20's. It's a sad hard reality I'm still learning to accept, I miss having a large group of friends that hang out. And trying to make new friends as an older adult is tough. p.s I really enjoyed the vlog!

I think you should feel proud of yourself! You have a nice apartment and have been able to provide a comfortable life for yourself. I've grown to realize that I Need my alone time, and that's pretty common with people who are a bit introverted but still like to socialize. Mindfulness really helped me appreciate just life and everyday moments a lot more than I was able to when I was younger. Just focusing on the little things that bring joy, like a nice cup of coffee, or being out in nature and really enjoying those moments helped me when I was going through a funk and when it's just gloomy outside. Love the vlog! I need to visit Chicago soon, my fiance really likes it there a lot and I still haven't been so it was cool seeing you exploring.

Lived in a suburb of Chi town for 10 years. We took the train downtown at least once a month and ALWAYS acted like tourist so fun. Now in Phoenix and DO NOT miss the 9 months of cloudy cold temps, rain, snow and humidity but still loved downtown Chicago. If your into music and live bands check out 7Th Heaven Band---- will not disappoint

Love this video and so glad I found your channel. I have always wanted to visit Chicago, and this just confirmed that more. I think I appreciate the realness of it, and I think despite the weather, I think living in Chicago suits you a lot more than Cali would have. Sending you lots of love and can’t wait for your next vids :)

I absolutely loved this video!! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences; it really helps make other people who feel the same about dating/relationships feel less alone. Chicago is such a gorgeous city and I really miss taking strolls down Magnificent Mile early in the morning. Amazing shopping. Sending you so much love and positivity! You are such a boss!

Unrelated to the video, if you haven’t tried out Volare Ristorante in Chicago you absolutely should. It’s an Italian restaurant that makes their own pasta. So so good.

Hey girl!! I live in LP and YES, weather here in Chicago SUX!! Like snow in April, really?!?!? I just moved here in Sept from Austin, TX, work from home, and also far from my gfs and family. What has helped me is my dog (so funny how easy it is to meet ppl when walking your dog lol) and joining the Junior League of Chicago. You’re always welcome in joining me & the girls for cocktails!

Me too with the sandwiches! I never eat them anymore, and just the past week I have had like 4 of them! Your new place looks super nice! I live just west of the city, but love getting to the city whenever I can. Can you do videos on how you run your business? How you find time (and how you balance) for Insta, TikTok, RUclips? Do you ever feel awkward filming on the street (do other people look at you)? I too love my alone time and watching RUclips and Netflix. Also, I am 47, and have been married (and hated my life). I can laugh about it now. You are being smart in your thinking about not rushing into things. Sounds like you have a wonderful family! You do a great job on content!

You’re right, every thing is temporary. Next, change “by myself” to “WITH myself”. As for dating, I hated it until I dated my now husband, so I know what you’re feeling. It will happen organically, forced or not, so you do you. I guess I should watch the video all the way thru before commenting, but there you go - you got out of the tub and it was the funnest first date because you had no expectations. Also, for future reference, people don’t change - so your slow approach is a good one because what you see is what you get - don’t look for “potential” it’s not there. 😜

I went through a very difficult divorce about 2 ½ years ago and my parents tried to get me to come home and I refused and wanted to do it on my own. I eventually healed, but in hindsight, I wish I had gone to stay with them. My mom did come stay with me for a while and that meant so much to me 🥰

Fun blog! You have such a good head on your shoulders.
I went to went a wedding a week after I broke up with my fiancé. Probably not a great decision but it I was my girlfriend’s date and didn’t know the couple so I think that helped with distancing myself from what I was going through and where I was. I do not recommend doing that after a major breakup but thankfully I had fun.
