Had mine for 4 months now, never even got out of the presets to create my own sounds... Almost every one of them inspired a little jam just like in this video, sure just bend some knobs and effects and have a goood time ! This thing will keep me entertained for years.
This video sold me on it. I can't wait to use it in my new songs. I love the features and the fact it has a vst accompaniment is wonderful. Great demo, this was well done and showed the best parts of it.
I can't wait to get mine, i really enjoyed microfreak back then (before it having granular, sampling, etc), but it was always a bit tricky to go back and forth from MF to ableton and vice versa. Now we have a bigger boy, with built in effects, bigger matrix, and this VST
More Reasons to Love The MiniFreak: 1. Macros - modulate up to four things with macros controlled from the sliders 2. Polyphonic effects - kinda hidden away but having an independent FX for each voice is dope (see ruclips.net/video/Wr6NzMJEBUg/видео.html) 3. The Mod Matrix is the most flexible Ive ever seen on a synth (also on the Microfreak, MatrixBrute and PolyBrute)
Tx so much! Listening to the sound preset, i was wondering if u could make a video full of keyboard greatest riffs - from.80s to 90s and up to 2000s , from axel f, to avicii ,from van halen jump up to gigi d'agostino using such amazing synths like this arturia or other keyboards midi/vsti. Btw, whats the name of the song of the riff you play on minute 1-1:10? Keep up the good work, Kat Bucharest Romania
Thank for you comment, my friend! I will say, months into owning this synth, I still use it on almost every project. It lives on my desk. Can completely recommend!
Nice video and I do like the look and sound of this synth. Could hear a slight difference in the vst version, particularly on the 2nd example, just a bit harsher, think it’s probably emphasising the higher frequencies a bit more which I guess could be down to the analog vs digital filter. Nothing you’d notice in a mix though.
I would love to see someone make a video demonstrating the freaks abilities in terms of producing different bass sounds, including tips and tricks. Thanks for the video!
INCREDIBLE video Patrick! Thanks for making this; the sounds are unbelievable; I think even my music will be amazing with this MINIFREAK! again, thanks for doing this.
Great review thanks, been thinking about getting this one for a while, Minifreak hardware seems to sound as good as the vst that comes with it, yet only has 6 voices while the vst has up to 12..
I have it - it's a joy to use (except not a fan of the feel of the knobs), but wish they just made a full-size version with double the number of voices and a mod matrix pad like the Polybrute. Difference between the hardware and software - the hardware is more immediately fun to tweak, but notes cut out more easily vs the software version due to limited polyphony.. they did a great job emulating the filter otherwise. Really great they released the software plugin for hardware owners - great for workflow.
Thanks for the great vid. Can you please clarify though - can you also use this as a standard MIDI controller for other VST synth plugins? I've been trying to figure it out, but can't find specific info about that. Thanks
I own the minifreak v and personally I found the presets to be very underwhelming. They mostly sound very primitive and barebone. Glad you found them to your taste 👍
Thanks for your comment, my friend! It's very funny you say that, because I'm working on an updated review to MiniFreak and I have a somewhat similar criticism. I do still think the presets are really cool, and there's a handful that I still use. My issue is there's 250+ presets and a lot of them aren't super useful for a lot of the music I personally make (pop, electronic, hip hop, funk etc.) Most of the sounds I use are presets I made, and I love those haha. Stay tuned for the updated video! Definitely going to feature your comment! Thanks again!
@@PatrickBreenMusic I would love some showcase of your presets. I was hyped for minifreak as many reviews showed it as something with unique capabilities but when I went through the presets I wasn't impressed. I'm eager for a showcase of minifreak's unique sonic abilities and how they make minifreak stand out from the other synths out there.
You can definitely get some great classic synth sounds out of minifreak. However, I wouldn't say that Minifreak can mimic a prophet (a synth that is more than 5x the price of minifreak, that has a lot more controls, full size keys, etc.) Hope that helps!
Nice vid...thanks! Love my Arturia products and this is my likely my next one. However, I sure wish they would have not skimped on that display. They only used a third of the available space...such waste.
How come I never see a video of someone playing a killer lead on a synth? They are all too much fiddling with the knobs and not enough jamming on the keys. Are synths used for leads or are leads more a midi thing now? Do I just not understand synths? I want a synth I can jam on with an awesome pitch range but it's difficult to find a video of anyone really jamming out on a synth.
I think a lot of synthesists these days are more interested complex timbres with relatively simple melodies, with the melodic part handled mostly by arpeggiators or sequencers freeing the operator to focus on adjusting timbre (“knob twiddling”). It kind of makes sense that synthesists would prioritize that part, as most instruments can’t meaningfully adjust their timbre during a performance which means you’re sort of forced to focus on melodic/harmonic content.
Sorry, it's not really doing it for me at all. There's nowhere near enough bottom end. For the same money you can have a Modal Argon 8, which is a much better synth with two more voices.
What is better about the Argon 8? I'm weighing up the MiniFreak v Minilogue XD v Cobalt8 and have a chance to check them out tomorrow, would be interested in your thoughts
Too safe synth. I.E. it's designed to sit inside a short range that "sounds good" Very few options (3) on the oscilator. No real sound design, just small tweeks.
Thanks for watching! Drop a COMMENT if you dig MiniFreak as much as I do 🫠🫠

I like this synth so much i bought two!! And custom wooden enclosures for them.
This looks so cool!
Sean! It's so dope, you need one! Much love brother!
Dude I like the jam you did with your friends. That’s a fun catchy melody and normally it’s not my style. Good job! and the melody at the end. Wow
So COOL! I need one of these!
Agreed! Thanks for your comment!
I’ve got my minifreak for a few weeks now and have begun to build presets. The mod matrix is a gem. Have uploaded some examples to my channel 🙂

Amazing video quality. Subbed!
Does the unit need to be plugged into an Audio interface (like a Scarlet) to record audio into the computer? sorry noob question.
The hardware has a wider sound stage and gives it that 3d sound with a touch of warmth.

I'm not really an Arturia fan, but it does sound good. Might have to give it a whirl.
Do you have to purchase additional cables to run with fl studio or can we use all the features with the in box cables sorry new to this….

Do minifreak has seamless transition feature when changing between the patches?
What is the Minifreak like as a general midi controller for soft synths, using its knobs to program virtual analog VSTs?
It’s a hardware synthesizer that also has a plug-in version.
Noticeably more body and bass coming from the hardware version which is odd considering how its already digital??
You know it's at V3 with granular plus samples now!

Yea there’s a diff. Audio sounds more warmer, plug-in sounds harsher !!
And all of this matters when you sit and mix it with your production.
