También las guerras (filipino-estadounidense y segunda guerra mundial) casi lo hicieron desparecer. Hay muchos datos. Hoy en día, hay filipinos que aprenden español en Instituto Cervantes allá y algunos colegios y algunas universidades que enseñan el español. (Soy filipino y español. Estoy orgulloso de mis raíces. Lo de los exploradores españoles y portugueses es impresionante. Practicamente no hay un lugar en la tierra que no haya sido explorado por ellos: Vasco de Gama, Juan Sebastian Elcano, Magallanes, Urdaneta, Francisco de Orellana, Nuñez de Balboa, Hernando de Soto, Paez Torres...La lista es interminable.
La primera vuelta al mundo la dieron un portugues y un español: Fernando de Magallanes y Juan Sebastian Elcano, a las ordenes del gobierno de España (esta hazaña solo es comparable a lo logrado por la NASA en la carrera espacial moderna).
Y además cartografiaron medio mundo: Juan de la Cosa realizó el primer mapa de America, y los portugueses practicamente cartografiaron todo el oeste y el sur de Africa.
Además, los jesuitas ibéricos ya estaban en el siglo XVI y XVII en Japón, India y China intentando convertir al cristianismo de forma pácifica a sus habitantes.

Realmente Magallanes tenía orden de ir y volver por el mismo paso. Al morir fue Elcano junto a los capitanes españoles los que deciden jugarsela por la via portuguesa. Quiero decir que la vuelta al mundo fue casual. No era el objetivo y por lo tanto la gloria es solo para Elcano aunque la expedición fuese de Magallanes que era un marino impresionante de la época. Menudo fichaje hizo la corona española con él.

The Netherlands was not a colony of Spain, Philip II Von Habsburg was legally the lord of the 17 provinces of the Low Countries. He was from the bloodline of Maximilian Habsburg and Mary of Burgundy. If Netherlands was a colony you would all have Spanish last names and today officially would speak Spanish.

The former were a global market, the latter a global kingdom. European empires shouldnt be generalized by the fact of having overseas territories, because not all of them were the same.
