    When A/B'ing bright speakers vs relaxed speakers, the bright speakers are usually what people think sounds better based on that comparison because it gives off the impression that it's clearer, more detailed, more open, etc. And it's absolutely valid if you like that sort of tonality, but the problem is that even people who would normally prefer a less bright pair might think the brighter pair sounds better in that moment. This is one of the reasons why audiophiles usually audition a speaker for weeks at a time before making a judgment.
    IMO, the Monitor Audio Bronze 2 leans a bit too bright for my tastes and the Q Acoustics 3030i has a richer, more natural midrange and less sibilant highs that I much prefer for all the songs here except maybe for Metal Head. The dynamics on the MA Bronze 2 does seem better in Metal Head, but Q Acoustics don't seem that much further behind here. It does have a really warm tonality that I don't think metalheads would be looking for in their music, so if you like the in-your-face sound of a metal concert, the MA Bronze 2 would be much better for you than the 3030i. The MA Bronze 2 also seems to have a stronger thump to their bass, which I think prefer, especially bassheads and metalheads. Personally, I don't want that much thump in my bass as I find it painful. Q Acoustics 3030i is definitely the winner for me here.

      In this video sound demo, to me, the Q's sounded clearer in the midbass but vocals were ever so slightly subdued, but over a wider range sounded more clear than the MA's. Downside was that they did sound a little boxy to me and not as 'airy'.
      The MA's mids/high mids were more to my liking (vocals especially). Didn't find them too harsh though. But the bass somehow 'got in the way' of the clarity of the midbass. That was much better on the Q's.
      Ps. I own the MA bronze 2's and they work well for my treated room. But still, if i were to choose between these speakers now i would have a hard time making the choice. If the Q's 'boxyness' would 'disappear' in my room and the highs wouldn't be subdued I'd probably go for the Q's now. Maybe replace first reflection point absorption with diffusion if i had the Q's... who knows.

      Metalhead here, the thing that's putting me off considering the MA is how bright they sound. I find repetative clashing of cymbals and snare an absolute nightmare if the speaker is too bright. Considering the Kef Q350 or Elac DBR62 but I am completely torn, was thinking about the MA Bronze or Silver 100 but I was quite put off by how the bronze sounds.

    An extremely clear test! Speaker switching was spot on. Thumbs up!
    I auditioned 3020i, 3030i and 3050i. Among them 3030i sounded the worst to me. 3020i sounded more open and airy, but lacked punch and body(which could be fixed by a sub). Also the 3030i's bass sounded loose and smeared. But here in this test I noticed that the Bronze 2 and 3030i have almost identical midrange while the MA Bronze 2 sounds a bit more detailed in highs. The bass on the Bronze 2 seems much more controlled and sure footed, which clearly explains the dip in 100hz region of the 3030i.

    Finally ended up getting the MA Bronze 2 after listening to the 3000i series. Clarity, Details and Accuracy wise the Bronze 2 crushes the 3000i range, which has a relatively warm and laid back signature at the expense of details and clarity.

    The qs have a warmer overall sound and their top end matches the source track. The 10khz lift on the bronze gives it a single note sounding top end. Their midbass is better though, doesnt sound hollowed out like the Qs. Id take the Qs.

      @@itzhakazoulay1271 I wouldn't call the Edifier's audiophile level, but for fun they are superb. They serve as 2.1 for TV (movies) and occasionally music. Take into account that my room/apartment is small, but they are loud enough that no neighbor sleeps if I don't want to :))
      At my office I have the MA's (working alone). For pure audiophile sessions they are a sensation for everyone that visits me. I would say that they are not for base heads, and my pair has a sweet-spot in volume level where they sound exceptionally.

    Q Acoustics 3030i's arrived today and set them up on my amp. Replaced Audio Bronze BX1s which i bought when my Pioneer A400 amp gave up and my JBL speakers baffle went - wish I had got them fixed. Anyway, some questions: How do I get the best HIFI signal to my Cambridge Audio A5 amp from my phone at a budget price? Why does the source sound so much better than the speaker demos? I have good earphones and the best is the source by a long shot.

    Bought it, love it! Great bang for the buck. Needs a bright amp or tone control for highs but that may just be me. I crank up the treble considerably and the bass fractionally on my amp for the sound that I like but for most people, this would be a very balanced speaker. For better, you'd have to spend a lot more! Good looking and well finished too, nice terminals.

    I appreciate your work, I've watched too many of your videos with high quality headphones. Most general all speakers sounds quite same with minor differences and hard to distinguish. But in reality, according to hifi my experiences, speakers from different brands sounds much more different, especially with mid-bass response. I think you must check your recording environment, maybe mics are too close!

    One thing I've realized with the MA bronze 1 and 2 is that the bass is a little "disappointing" compared to other speakers with the same sized driver. They're 100% the loudest speakers in their size group though. The Bronze 50 got a bigger cabinet which was needed. Sadly, it's 450$ for me which is quite expensive compared to the bronze 1. Really considering an upgrade because I'm in love with the tweeter they're using, such relaxing treble, but not too dark either (the MA monitor 100 has gotten complaints about sounding too dark). Even though I've got an SVS PB-1000, I really enjoy using just the speakers with my NAD D3045.

    • @thetigergamer4644
      @thetigergamer4644 3 года назад

      @@keefw361 I don't own the bronze 1's anymore, upgraded to the Klipsch RP-160M. But from what I remember, The bronze 1's are neutral(good for rooms with bad acoustic) That midrange is awesome for listening to Rock/metal music. But if I'd have to compare those two(never heard the 3020i's) I'd guess the 3020i goes lower and louder(in the bass department). The 3020i are warmer, with better overall bass, but the bronze 1 are sexy, more neutral(best for any type of music), but they shine when it comes to rock/metal, louder as in decibles. I'd personally go for the bronze 1s, but read some reviews and see if you can find some well recorded audio clips of those(just to get a taste of their bass, warmth etc. In my room the Bronze 1's went down to 45 - 42 Hz before dropping like a rock.

      Thanks a million for the info. Ye I can get the bronze 1's at a bargain €120 while the 3020i are €200. It's hard to get many audio clips for the bronze 1s but the one I heard the clarity and treble sounds excellent kinda has that x factor on the high end. While the 3020i is solid and warm all round but while that's it's strength it's also its weakness as it doesn't have that edge. Really looking for clarity and to hear instrument nuances and separation. Edging towards bronze1s

      @thetigergamer4644 3 года назад

      @@keefw361 Good choice, I know I've said it a million times. But if/when you're getting them, just try some metal/rock music. Not a huge fan of metal/rock but that midrange driver is doing something special, also I've removed the driver a couple times, looks like a solid-ass drive... a huge magnet as well. It does, you can play any type of music as loud as you can physically take, and that tweeter never gets too bright or sharp. These would really benefit from a room with a peak at 35 - 50 Hz. I demoed them in my current room which has a 10 dB peak at 41 Hz, played Icarus by synthetic Epiphany and he thought for a split second that my dad's Infinity Kappa 70's were used as a sub to trick him (had the bronze 1's on top of them). I don't buy the Bronze 1's without even thinking about it, It's a small speaker, it has a 5,5" driver (bigger than 3020i), a smaller cabinet thought. It's tuned somewhere around 45 - 50 Hz if I'm not mistaken.

    How are Q Acoustics for desktop, near field listening? I'm looking at the smaller 3020i with 5" woofer. Currently have Mackie MR524 studio monitors on my desk, partly thanks to Digital Stereophony awesome videos. MR524 are great no doubt about it for the money but are "budget" studio monitors, and am considering upgrading for better music listening. Would consider passives. As the QA are "bookshelf" speakers, would they work near field?

    • @itguidesvideos3683
      @itguidesvideos3683 4 года назад

      Q Acoustics passive speakers are good for nearfield listening. I have a pair of 2010i which I use with my computer and from 30 cm distance they sound as good as they do from 3 - 4 meters distance. The 3020i would be better than my 2010i, even in nearfield position.
      I don't know what is wrong with your Mackie MR524 though. Maybe you should audition a pair of Q Acoustics speakers before upgrading to them. Maybe they aren't much of an improvement over the Mackie's. And maybe you should consider buying the Concept 20's instead, I have read that they sound better than the 3020i, although I have never heard the 3020i so I can't comment on that. The Concept 20's are a bit more expensive than the 3020i, but might be more of an upgrade.
