If your going to put money into another rifle you could screw yourself when you could be getting one of these for between two and three hundred dollars. Enclosed encased reciever. The opening on the Ruger american in a closed reciever is smaller. Stiff reciever. Tang mounted safety. Safety clears scope. Bolt appears to be better than the axis in terms of quality. This thing has a fat bold shroud. It has a nice extracted. Spring ejecter. This gun has very tight lockup. Extraction and ejection are smooth. Flush mount magazine. No malfunctions at all. Smooth feeding with no jams. Quick reloading. The stock is mostly a copy of the savage axis. It has a plastic stock. Free floated barrel. v block lugs ensuring a free floating barrel. Piller bedding. Included rings. the trigger on the ruger american is excellent. trigger pulls at three pounds. Your getting a great trigger for the money. So really if you want an inexpensive deer rifle i would def recommend this as a hunting rifle. It got an excellent review. integral trigger guard. hammer forged barrel.

The Ruger American is often compared to low end Savage and Remington rifles...I can't figure that one out? Its way above any other low end competition rifles, actually,it should be compared to other higher end rifles when it comes to big game rifles. Its not a competition rifle but an amazing hunting rifle. Ruger has done it again.

I dont see much differences in my ruger american and savage axis but my axis has a trigger job so that helps. The 770 is the worst gun i ever owned will not buy another or own another .

Hi I just recently bought this gun about a year ago for hunting it's a good gun overall but the only downside is how hot the barrel gets after 2-4 shots it gets really innacarate so don't plan going and shooting at the range all day unless you can take brakes other wise there's no point

got this rifle for $290, but don't pay more than $360 for it. over all good rifle, accurate, small recoil, biggest downside is the 4-shot magazine.
