Their best album by far, they owe their notoriety to the Debut but it's apart from a couple of tracks it's really sugary pop, LA Woman is a much more accurate less unpretentious recording and mature collaboration as musicians, and stylistically it's a rarity for a group of 4 white suburban 20 somethings to produce such authentic Blues sound

I wonder if they had any idea they were laying down tracks that people would be loving and listening to 50 years later….songs like Riders and LA Women that would become iconic and would have to rank among the best ever. I’m guessing they had no idea how great this stuff is when they were recording it. Had Jim realized, his ending might have been different. Moral of the story: someone needs to go back in time and tell Jim-before he leaves for Paris-that the group has just created an incredible record that will be remembered forever.

awesome version of Rock Me Baby with the sweet runs by the bass player. What a shame he did not get to tour with the band. Always loved Ray's left hand bass, but it did limit him in live shows. Riders on the Storm is, too, a revelation. The guitar-piano interplay is sweet and again, the actual bass is more compelling and "driving".

He was finished. LA Woman was recorded between Dec 1970 and Jan 1971 and they tried some of the new material at a couple of concerts in December. The last one was disastrous. New Orleans. Midway through the set, Jim began to forget the words to songs. He was hanging on to the mic stand for support as the group launched into "Light My Fire," and during the solos he went and sat down on the drum riser, failing to get up to sing the last verse. That's when Ray said he knew it was over, that Jim's spirit just left him. Densmore finally nudged him with his foot, whereupon Jim went over to the mic stand and repeatedly smashed it into the stage until it splintered, then threw down the mic and abruptly walked off stage, ending the show early. The other band members had a meeting at which they agreed that the New Orleans show should be their live swan song, since Jim's unpredictability made further touring impractical.

most people dont understand sybolism as a poetic form. morrison locked in on the method. very blake influenced. when you understand how it works, much more depth is revealed in its meanings and connections.

What a great jam collection! Now I really know what Jim Morrison meant when he said in an interview that this is essentially a Blues album. This is the Doors playing the straight Blues in their best form. Marc Benno's funky guitar work on some of the tunes is fantastic. Jim's emulation of the harmonica solo is sublime!! Jim's transition from being a crooner to a hard-edged blues singer may be due to his alcoholism but his soul is always there in his voice. Sounds like some of the tunes were sung by someone other than Jim.
Thank you SO MUCH, muchas gracious, for uploading this. I'd rather listen to this version than the commercially released version of Morrison Hotel any time.

Huh? Not sure anyone else can sing like Jim. You keep working till get version. Booze only made them better if you understand the Doors. Jim was a rocketship n that's the legacy. Flaming high till break up.

Never was that big doors fan but this is simply fantastic and shows what the doors always wanted to be, a R&B band.
Ray always did a good job on stage with his bass pedal playing but it' s quite a difference to have a great bassplayer doing the job.
    I have to do atonement.
Morrison was not only a drunken buffoon who thought he is a poet as Lester Banks stated and I agreed.
He was much more. First of all a bluesy soulful singer.
Like to have this on vinyl.

Sound so much better with Jerry sitting in on Bass! As much as I’m an absolute DOORS Fanatic, I always wanted them to have a real Bass Player in the Band as it would’ve not only given them more Punch but also freed Ray up to achieve even great height on the keys.🤘🏼
