Scott, I just thought about this and wanted to share it with you: I did summer gym class between 9th and 10th grade with a guy whose favorite Pokémon were Ledyba and Ledian. Really goes to show that for every Pokémon, someone has them as their favorite. That kid was cool. I think he got Pokérus and gave it to all of our little friend group while we were all playing Black and White. It's just a fond childhood memory of mine. I love when you share childhood memories of Pokémon, so I thought I'd share my own! Love the content as always.
I personally prefer using Swift over Comet Punch when you get it in Union Cave. A surprising amount of people forget about Swift. I've used a Ledian on several playthroughs of the game and it's honestly a lot of fun to use. Return, Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, and Dig makes it so that Ledian can solo the majority of the game even when it's on par with the other Pokémon's levels. I know you and other pokeTubers try to make the challenge as difficult on yourselves as possible, but Ledian honestly is a good Pokémon when you're not tying your hands behind your back. Also, giving it NeverMeltIce or the Magnet are extra useful here.
My respect for seeing these challenges through. It kind of blew my mind when you explained that Ledian can not learn a single STAB move....I did not know that as I have not really used it a lot. Maybe in my very first playthrough when I was a child...Your patience in the face of near insurmountable odds (STEELIX) is astonishing. 14:42 Although I don't mind friendly rivals too much, I gotta agree with you there. XY were the worst offenders. Serena/Calem should've been made the jerk. Think about it in their perspective. They're the child of two great Pokemon trainers, are said to have inherited their parents' skills, and their friends view them as the leader. That should give them a bit of an ego. While Serena/Calem initially welcomes you into the group - maybe even viewing your first victory against them as nothing more than "beginner's luck" - once you defeat them to obtain the Mega Ring, that's when they start to hate you. After all, you started out as the new guy, and now you've managed to replace them as not only the best trainer, but also the leader. Who wouldn't feel a bit peeved at that? Everyone hates Ledian because it is weak and doesn't have a diverse moveset but for me I love the way it looks I mean a boxing ladybug is cool and it doesn't look like they haphazardly glued random things together to get a boxing ladybug it is very aestheticly pleasing to me. Seeing this is why I subscribed to your channel YEAH! One of my favorite 3 Pokemon of gen 2 the others being Celibi and Espeon. Also Ledian is my favorite bug Pokemon overall 2nd being Volcorona 3rd Butterfree Beautifly and Vivilion (they would be 2nd but there are too many look alikes making it less fun).
Not sure if an earlier comment stated it, but the Black Belt Nob who slid you earlier with rock slide is actually an ode to the original translator for the Pokemon games, Nob Ogasawara. They basically put him in every Pokemon game as a trainer no matter what, despite only using him for translations up until platinum. I know his name would get clowned in English, but in Japanese it's just a name. 🤷🏿♂️
Not going to lie, when I first played through Gen 2 I liked the way Ledyba and Ledian looked, but that's about it. Your run did show me that Ledian is more versatile than I originally thought. I might try to do a playthrough again using unconventional mons.
I love Ledian 🥳 Silver was my favorite Pokémon Game and he was my favorite team member. I kept him on my team despite his shortcomings because he just looked so cool and was my first caught Pokémon this Gen. Trying to make modern moveset for my classic favs a couple years ago is where I found my true love for this ‘mon though. With such terrible stats with a vast move pool, I got to try SO many things to make him work, and he became the bane of my friends’ existence 😂 my favorite set ever was; Max Health, Max Sp Def. Salac Berry, Silver Wind, Ominous Wind, Baton Pass and Infestation... I’d trap opposing Sp Atkrs and spam for boost, pass them on to Espeon and sweep full teams with Stored Power, with Signal Beam for Dark-types 😂 ... just my favorite of dozens of silly strategies lol Just the coolest Pokémon!
The sad fact of the matter is that I think Ledian has one of the most adorable and appealing designs in the series, along with Ledyba. It's a shame that they can be knocked out with a stiff breeze in most scenarios. To quote Smogon: "Oh Ledian, you're as cute as a button, and about as strong as one, too." Though taking out Clair with a Ledian is immensely satisfying, I bet.
14:50 I think part of the reason people remember Gary "Dicks" Oak and the rival from gen2 so much more fondly than the others is because they're actually jerks. Think about it. In the pokemon games, people are pretty dang nice! Ignoring the plots that sometimes bizarrely involve freaking _genocide,_ your average person in the pokemon world seems like a really nice, kind soul. They happily give away items to random kids they meet to help them on their pokemon adventures, or offer to craft specialty items for them free of charge like Kurt. In a world filled primarily with such people, being just a plain old arrogant jerk stands out! It's memorable. Even if later generation rivals had good writing (and let's be real... they don't. They're all pretty dang bland) they still wouldn't be as fondly remembered and memed as the first two, because they just don't stand out from the overall tone of the games.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Thank you very much. I truly appreciate it. I hope all goes well for you this coming year. You def deserve more views and subs. Much Love ❤💪💯🌹 That being said. I'm gonna dip, and finish my dinner. XD Beef Cazuela here I come.
I'm a bit surprised you didn't use Thunderpunch to deal with Poliwrath. After all, Ledian's Special Attack is higher than his/her regular attacking stat.
Gen 1 confirmed mega broken. I thought it was just me who kept getting freezes 😆. Always found it silly as a kid and you can't defrost either. Confusion is also completely botched in this game.
Ladian probably should of bin a fighting bug type because they gave it all the elemental punches and the hidden ability Iron fist lol even so ladian a pretty nice Pokémon I remember using one in Pokémon XD gale of darkness Great video dude it was super entertaining and I like how u go with the starter that strongest against your Pokémon good luck on your next challenge Also a question will u be doing any Pokémon XD Gale of darkness challenges?
I call him assfart a lot as of late, but I really forgot what I used to call him.. heh! I've done a full ledian run in Heartgold myself, it's amazing how weak ledian actually is, even in a newer generation, it's learning somewhat 3 stab moves if I'm correct, which is pretty weak still lol! That aerodactyl though, I.. really hated that guy LOL! But all aside, nicely done man!
I’m guessing Game Freak designed Ledian with Baton Pass in mind. Only a few lines of Pokemon in Gold/Silver learned the move naturally and of those that did have it, many of them also had Reflect and Light Screen (Mr Mime) and/or Agility (Aipom, Ariados). It’s kind of a shame that Scyther and Scizor, which are actually decent, also have the Baton Pass and Agility combo via breeding. And that Eevee got Baton Pass in Crystal. Those guys had no business having both Baton Pass AND good stats!
Ledian was actually the first Bug-type that I fell in love with, I always imagined it's eyes were shaped like cool goggles (much like how Flygon looks), and since then I've low-key had Bug as my favourite typing. Then lo-and-behold, Gen 4's Sinnoh has a Bug-type Elite 4 member with which I share a name! XD I finally decided to do a mono-bug run with my copy of Shield after my primary run in Sword. It was nice to see how diverse the typing had gotten after all these years. :D
Ledyba, along with hoot hoot and murkrow, is one of the gen 2 pokemon that I really loved their designs, but ended being useless in combat, and never received a good evlution. Once, I even designed myself a fanart evo for ledyba, that was bug - electric, and had light bulbs on his back, on the place his dots were supossed to be, and was a really cool concept, that even others appreciated. He was fat like snorlax, big, round, had a funny but annoyed face, and little lights on his antennae, along with 4 cool insect arms with 3 fingers on each. Why if fans can create these things, GF can't put any effort in making its evolutions. So many gen 2 pokemon that coud have cool evolutions back then... Sneasel, misdrevous, stantler, mantine, dunsparce, yanma... It was the generation of wasted potential. So many good beta pokemon thrown away too.
Would like to see a solo Sandshrew run in either red/blue or yellow!! That could be an interesting run, you would have access to the always dreadful sand attack

Awesome, great job, thanks for this. I'm using my favourite Ledian in PoGo pvp and it's great, very tanky.
Once you get surf you can get a king's rock which combos perfectly with comet punch and extra levels to outspeed most enemies
Love your vids! This video has inspired me to shiny hunt for a ledyba on my physical crystal cart 🤙🏻
Do it!
Great job dude!
I just finished doing bug only runs in gen 1 and 2. Ledian sure was a nuisance to drag along for a lot of the game 😅
Honestly, the Rival in GSC was bare bones too. He was done better in the remake.
nah he actually has development in gsc. you just never finished the game lol
Really enjoying the videos keep up the great work 👍 you should try and use dunsparce for a video its one of my favorite pokemon
OMG YES! That is an awesome idea for a run.
The best part about the Machoke with RockSlide is that its a tm move from gen 1. It can't learn RockSlide in gen 2...
“ 4 little fists” lol it’s funny bc this Pokémon is like the size of a nidoking
I always named my rivals Loser because it's funny seeing Professor oak call his grandson a Loser.
I love Ledian and I always add on Swift when I get the chance. I early on like Swift, reflect, light screen, and supersonic/double team
Nice job man! Keep up the great content. 👍
It really was immensely satisfying!
51 attempts! The patience of this guy, I've been getting super frustrated trying to get celestial weapons in ffx
I think we all know Poliwag would sleep on Johto. ❤💯🌹 Also, Happy New Year, Scott.
Happy New Year Sr. Papi Ricky!
Such a great channel, you're a pro at solo runs.
Keen for this mate!
Curse is in ledians learnset. Combo that with dig when you out speed a particularly troublesome pokemon for easier kos.
Good idea!
I'm a bit surprised you didn't use Thunderpunch to deal with Poliwrath. After all, Ledian's Special Attack is higher than his/her regular attacking stat.
For the algorithm
I always loved getting the elemental punch moves when I would pay Gen 2. They were the staples for getting through the game
He always says that he learns a lot from the comments but this time I learnt from him that until editing, icy punches are beams.
Icy Punches are beams until editing. This is what happens when you don't edit your scripts :P
Everyone is getting a hold of those confusion strats lol
Gen 1 confirmed mega broken. I thought it was just me who kept getting freezes 😆. Always found it silly as a kid and you can't defrost either. Confusion is also completely botched in this game.
Woo! Ledian is one of my favourite bug types. :)
Ladian probably should of bin a fighting bug type because they gave it all the elemental punches and the hidden ability Iron fist lol even so ladian a pretty nice Pokémon I remember using one in Pokémon XD gale of darkness
Great video dude it was super entertaining and I like how u go with the starter that strongest against your Pokémon good luck on your next challenge
Also a question will u be doing any Pokémon XD Gale of darkness challenges?
Probably won't be doing any Gale of darkness challenges in the near future.
I have *NEVER* seen Ledians back sprite
XD
I finally decided to do a mono-bug run with my copy of Shield after my primary run in Sword. It was nice to see how diverse the typing had gotten after all these years. :D
I'm noticing that a lot of people really love the dug type. I'm finding my people.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon drug type 😎
Alright I will do a run with Sandshrew :)
I was about to suggest a solo run for Pokemon Emerald but I realized it has Steven in it as the final boss... Brutal.
Seviper can destroy stevens team easily flamethrower earthquake and crunch
Blackbelt Nob is actually named after the guy who localized the games, Nob Ogasawara!
Can you try and beat the first or second genertion with only a clefairy, chikorita, or vulpix please and thank you.
Thanks for asking so nicely :) I've put those on my list.
