It didn't die and I hated how everyone said it was dead after May/Pac just because they were upset that Floyd won and did it the way he always wins. That fight actually helped because it brought a lot of attention to the sport. Good or bad attention is still attention.

Boxing stars are not as easy to come by as MMA stars.
Troy Hartung Boxing ain't ever gonna die. Only fools think that. Boxing is actually stronger now than it's been in decades. Look at 90,000 in Wembley Stadium for Joshua vs Klitschko. This match could do almost as well and neither of these guys are remotely British. In US it could draw 50 to 60 thousand if promoted in the proper way and the venue was large enough.
Trouble is HBO, not PBC has this bout and HBO has never had boxing's best interest at heart. HBO only cares about HBO and its bottom line not the sport of boxing. PBC would try to put this bout on primetime TV to get the widest possible audience. HBO will put it on PPV and charge $99.99 or more to get itself the most money. That's very short-sighted since you grow the sport and make it much more profitable by giving it the greatest possible exposure. If twenty million American viewers watch this bout on network TV that is way better than two million catching it on PPV. HBO doesn't care, though. HBO just cares about its own pocketbook. Boxing would be so much better off, in the long run, if it could cut all ties to HBO. Let's hope one day that it totally does.
Aditya - True to an extent although MMA seems to be going the same way unfortunately... Initially there business plan of making the best fight the best was brilliant, However money fights now are taking over the same as with boxing.
Also the NFL and NBA are much better organisations in terms of promotion.

Daniel Jacobs and David Lemieux are better names on Golovkin's resume than Miguel Cotto and Erislandy Lara.
Anybody who thinks GGG hasn't faced anybody needs to look at Canelo's own resume. Seriously.
His three best wins to date are Cotto, Lara, and Smith. Of those three, he only knocked out one of them.
Cotto is a 5'7" welterweight past his prime. Lara runs 24/7. Smith is tough but basically a punching bag.
Gennady Golovkin knocks out all 3 of those guys. He also knocks out Floyd Mayweather. Maybe not at 152, but at 154.
Does that mean Golovkin will beat Canelo? No. Anything can happen in boxing but GGG is the 60-40 favorite in that one.
If both guys bring their A-game, GGG wins. If either guy makes more mistakes than usual or isn't in top shape, they will lose.

The same way Chavez jr was tailor made for Canelo, Canelo is tailor made for GGG. Canelo isn't a moving boxer, he comes forward, he will try to trade with GGG, he's the much smaller guy. This fight won't go the distance, GGG will walk Canelo down and punish him. I say the fight is stopped in round 6-8.

MRxROID I agree 100%, Canelo being a flat footed puncher my means he has to plant his feet and dig in to get his shots off, so he will be there for GGG to hit. Jacobs was bigger and more athletic than GGG, so for ppl to think Canelo can duplicate what a much bigger Jacobs did was foolish. Canelo is very good, but a very good big man beats a very good smaller man.
I've got Canelo in this. GGG will eat some serious uppercuts in this fight. Golovkins style will play into canelos flat footed counter punching style. He has a solid defence, is sturdy and will not be running from GGG. Golovkin seemed to struggle and smother himself on the inside against Jacobs, Canelo is excellent at getting his shots off in close quarters which is where I see much of this fight being fought.

For anyone to think that Canelo or any boxer for that fact are scared to face anyone is an idiot. Golden boy has been public about they're flat fee offer being on the table and were only waiting for GGG's camp to accept. They finally accepted the fact that they were the "B" and accepted the biggest payday of GGG's career. It's going to be a great fight and can't wait for "big Mexican style drama show".

Golovkin holds himself very well. He's a humble gentleman outside of the ring and a monster inside the ring. Canelo is very diligent & confident but I feel like some of his answers are a bit too confident. I don't know, maybe things get lost in translation (literally) but he needs to understand that come Sept 16th, regardless of who you're rooting for, this fight WILL BE the toughest of both fighters careers. If you think otherwise, you're an uneducated, biased fan boy of either fighter. I personally give a slight edge to GGG. Styles make fights and this is perfect for both of these guys. You got GGG who can box, brawl, great chin, excellent boxing ring IQ (practically no weaknesses) he's a the stalker who walks his opponents down even when they are bigger (which doesn't happen often) like Danny Jacobs. And you have Canelo who shares most of the same aforementioned attributes that GGG has but he's a bit smaller, not quite as strong but has great upper body movement/defense with extremely quick, sharp, hard counter punches. Make no mistake about it, this fight will be competitive.

The one's who deserve the most credit for making Canelo the fighter he is today-- his training team of Chepo & Jose Reynoso--are also the quietest. Oscar & Golden Boy stole Canelo from another smaller promoter when they saw all the promise he held. It's hard to pick a winner in this one. Youth will most likely prevail, however.
I think no one really understood why Oscar prevented Canelo from fighting GGG immediately when he was the king of the middleweight, you have to understand that he just took a blueprint that May/Pac did they made the fight so controversial that made all walks of life basically begged them to fight and it took them 8 years till they finally danced and well they made more than half a billion so to be fair it didn't take them 8 years to make the fight and highly doubtful it will challenged May/Pac but atleast they are going to fight at last.
