- Packing my JMT pack was a little different with having to fit a bear canister inside of it. This was the best way I could find to pack it that carried the most comfort.

Just found your channel, great to see you doing the JMT. I grew up a few miles from JM's birth place in Dunbar, Scotland and grew up with stories about him and his love for nature. I hope to do the JMT one day but for now the Scottish JMT will do.
I'm setting out on the West Highland Way next week which is a 100 mile hike which should take a 6-7 days but I can't wait.
Look forward to seeing your updates dude. Stay safe :)
It was great to run into you at the Sub dome yesterday!! Good luck on the hike and enjoy.
Thanks for this video. I have the 2400 and I put my bear vault also inside but I have the pods that fit the pack so a pod then canister stuff things around it then another pod on top fits perfectly and comfortably. So large pod on bottom holds sleeping bag then small pod on top with clothing , small electronics bag, small first aid and toiletries bag, small misc all placed around canister.
Cubes/pods work well.
Newly subscribed due to the good info... and the Minnesota logos on your shirt and hat didn't hurt either.
Outstanding video & explications. Thanks for the tips.
Another super helpful video!!!! Thanks again:)
The JMT is one of my all time dreams
Super helpful, thank you!
Great video Bigfoot. If you ever do another video like this again, you may want to try placing a GoPro on a tripod to get a nice top-down view of you pack as you position gear.
Thank you for making this video! Do you think that an HMG 2400 would fit the same loadout? I'm looking to get either the 3400 or 2400, and I'm not sure if I'd put a BV500 inside or outside the pack.
Good stuff Rory! Was curious why you aren't taking your 4-in-1 this time?
Very helpful, thanks!
Super helpful. So, you don't use a pack liner? Is that because your pack is water resistant?
Hello from France. One day on the JMT I Hope
Was wondering why you didnt just stuff your quilt in the bottom to take up the dead space and then bear canister on top? Cheers for video.
That panel is going to be shaded somewhat by the angle of the sun, in the direction you are going. Check out "Easy Trail" videos on youtube. They had theirs mounted in the best spot, and still could only add about 20% to battery capacity.
I was looking to buy one but none are for sale on Amazon, EBay or elsewhere as of 6/21.
Im having similar issues with packing my canister. This was helpful twofold- one, your tips, and two-knowing Its not just me!! Thanks bunches
nice video. Is there going to be videos from the JMT while you are on it?
thanks for the info.
Deciding between this or a ULA OHM …
Which size stuff pack is that (the one you are using for your clothes)?
Great Video! I am planning to do the JMT. I am skeptical of getting lost. Are the trails well marked? Some advices please... Thank you
What umbrella is that?
This is my flexotrek 37000 arc light whipsnake icon series ...
Where's your camera gear going?
You don't keep your stove, canister, or pot in the bear canister?
Hi Bigfoot!
Hey, do you know if the BV500 fits in the Zpacks Arc Haul Zip? Thanks!
It does, I checked it myself.
Follow Bigfoot thanks so much!
Wow that pack looks light but painful. I love my Gregory Balmoral too much to give it up. But then I'm 6,4 my shell, Fleece and one pair of socks weighs more then your whole pack! LOL
Pablo Nickodemus my hmg 3400 feels great. Love it. Im at 10.8 lbs without food and water
I keep my tent, fly, footprint and tarp in a D-pack, no wasted space at all.
What is a D pack
What size zpack ditty bag was that you used for your miscellaneous?
+Curtis MiLLER Small plus stuff sack
Cool
If you put your food in that canister the bear wont smell the food that’s in it?
Also do you need to hang it?
If dont need to hang, where do I put my bear canister when I get to the camp?
I have been told that a bear can smell it. You do not need to hang it. I typically put it about 100 feet from where I sleep. Make sure you put it in an area that, if a beer does find it, it’s not going to roll off a cliff or mountain if they try to play with it to get into the canister
Follow Bigfoot - if they can just make an odor proof canister so the bear wont come at all.
Never hang your bear vault. Hide it between rocks or under brush and away from water or cliff.
Where's the water filter ??
One of his two water bottles was the Katadyn BeFree water filter.
lighter, did you say lighter. time for you to get with the times check out the video on the UCO Titan Stormproof Matches it will blow your mined
umbrellas? thats new
I wanted to see you pack the actual bear cannister
"My cuben fiber bag" lol You are so cool because of it
but arent you just making everything in your bag smell of food
You're not Bigfoot
