    Tanking in Foxhole is both a fun experience and a trial by fire. you will have both moments that make you feel like you are unstoppable and other moments that make you feel like your are going to die from the sheer stress of the battlefield. take it from me, tanking is not for everyone and not every tank is fit for everyone. there are tanks you like and tanks that you don't, and that's me being a driver. however, if you can look past the yelling, screaming and frustration you can experience a part of the game like no one else has. it also helps if you have a skill for it, wither it be driving, gunning or being a leader to help spice up the experience.

      Agree, tanking isn't for everyone.
      Although I have to say, leadership in tanking is A MUST. Whenever I was tanking with Guardsmann, it was a genuine random incident of him using his maxed out Charisma stat to get me and randoms to join his tank column.
      The last time I tanked with him, our group took out 8 tanks (well, one was an MLT) for the loss of one Bardiche in 2 pushes, then we swung for the fences and lost our 3 Spathas while we tried to take out a SPG, I think. Still a pretty good end result.

    The "Fear of the dark" meta infuriates me to no end. Some of my best tanker moments happen in the dark. From being the boogie man in the forest noone expects, to juking 4 stickies resulting in the sticky thrower saluting me, to having my public gunner scream like a baby that he wants to go back to safety while he gets a double digit kill streak, to driving past all the friendly tankers at dawn to yell "Sup Pu55ies? I'm off to get more ammo!", night tanking is best tanking!
    To be good at night tanking, keep moving, move unpredictably, stay with team mate infantry, and keep an eye on the map.

      It's good conventional wisdom since countless newbie tankers get themselves pointlessly killed due to it, but yeah, night tanking can still work. It just has to be done with deliberate intent and an educated plan of attack. Eg, never expect to just sit in a line at the front, or you're simply RPG/nade/pushgun bait. Go find a clever flank and bring some infantry with you. And whatever you chose to do, don't outstay your welcome.

    • @centric3125
      @centric3125 17 дней назад

      @UnknownSquid exactly. If you wanna use vehicles at night, take at least a 5-6 man squad of Infantry with you.
      If you're taking BTs or more expensive CTs, up the number by 4 Infantry. If you're taking a SHT, take a backup BT IN ADDITION to 2 6+ Infantry squads.

      It's fairly easy to use solo. Provided that you have a couple of pallets of 3C rockets. Ironically how hated the Jester is, it is the only vehicle in the Warden arsenal that uses 3C rockets.
      They could buff the Jester by increasing the carrying capacity of rockets from 1 to 6.
      That way you can shoot another salvo after reloading before going back to the pallet of rockets.
      Another thing they could do, is have a Mark 2 version that can shoot more rockets but needs a bigger tank chassis and more assembly materials.

    Hi, Warden Tank Commander here - yeah, tanks are really, really fun. But also they're EXPENSIVE. Whenever you're in armour, you've gotta be looking at the cost of everything you do. A 40mm shell costs almost twice as much as a shirt, rifle, pair of mags, and a bandage. If you're rolling around in an Outlaw or a Spatha, you are a significant investment of your team's resources, and you've gotta respect that. Don't throw your tank away without a good reason. And if it's between your infantry and your metal, sorry, guys, I respect you greatly, but shirts are cheaper than treads, so if my tank needs to go, I'll leave your ass behind and the driver will run over anyone who gets in the way, blue or green. We call you crunchies for a reason.
    Tanking in small numbers is all about survival and avoiding risks. AT infantry are the Bane (see what I did there?) of your existence - they're never in every trench, but they could always be in any of them, and their weapons hit hard. The tradeoff for AT infantry is that they're slow as a slug in glue, lugging around weapons which take thirty, forty, fifty percent of carrying capacity before you factor in ammo, so they're usually semi-mobile at best. Stickies, White Ash, and Ignifists are more mobile, but they're shorter ranged, and don't hit as hard, so you're only in trouble if there's a lot of them or they track you. Rushes are scary, though, especially if your tank isn't equipped with an MG - your main gun can kill the hell out of one guy, but then you're stuck there with several seconds of reloading while the rest of the little green rats close in.
    Mobility is also the weakness with wheeled AT - a FAT could be anywhere, sure, given enough time, but you've got an engine and they've got two wheels and two poor suckers dragging the thing. And EATs are, well, emplaced. They ain't moving without a crane. Tripod guns are more mobile, and nastier than you think (auto-twenties especially), but they're still a multi-person job, and they can't chase you. Sometimes it's better to let the other guy get away if it means not committing into unknown territory that could be full of nasty, nasty trenches and all the boom hiding in them. You're paying for the whole tank. Use the bloody engine.
    Your infantry are your best friends in a tank. Yes, I know I said run them over, and I stand by that, but honestly if you're a crunchie you need to recognise that as an individual you are completely expendable - eight bmats per shirt before MPFs factor in mean that one MG pillbox costs the same as a whole crate. In groups, however, the meat is your best defence. Tanks without safe places to run to are dead tanks, sooner or later, and there's nothing safer to hide behind than your own trench full of nasty. Crunchies clear mines, secure flanks, assist in AT work, set demo charges to get you through tank traps, call out warnings about incoming threats - the list goes on. It's called armoured SUPPORT for a reason. You and the meat are there to help each other. Blow up that pillbox that keeps mulching them and they'll pay you back with a good base of fire when the next sticky rush charges you.
    Artillery is no threat right up until it very suddenly is. One 120mm gun dialled in on your line is annoying, but a minor threat - a direct impact from a small-calibre shell like that will do four, five percent damage to an assault or cruiser tank - Falchion, Outlaw, Silverhand, etc. That's fine, honestly. The next shell will scatter wide left, then another one will land behind you, and by that time you've shifted twenty metres and the spotter has to re-lay the gun on you. Damage is not a major factor, here.
    The real threat of light arty fire is on preventing repairs, disrupting formations, tracking individual tanks, splattering commanders or making them button up - yes, you can absolutely get killed if you leave your head sticking out of the commander's seat. It's happened to me many times. Watch out for smart f***ers with longrifles and high-angle shots. Also, trying to repair under fire sucks, because, surprise surprise, your squishy little sack of meat is easier to kill than the metal is.
    Anyway, a constant rain of boom tends to make people take cover, split up, and disengage. Good for scattering the pigeons. If you're really ballsy, have a good set of crews, and the spotter is talking to you, you can use the scattering from the artillery to chase people into your waiting guns. Only do that if you're sure of the coordination, though - it's really embarrassing to drive into your own artillery fire, lose all of your commanders, throw a track in the retreat, and get eaten alive by a pair of Bards who were laughing their asses off. I am not immune to the lure of dumb decisions that sounded fun at the time.
    Heavy arty, though, is a different story. Count the simultaneous splashes - if there's three or more guns on you, start moving, and fast. One-twenty won't kill you quick, but if you get tracked under a barrage, it's gonna hurt the whole time you're dying. If it's one-fifty, or god forbid three-hundred from a Storm or Tempest cannon, f***ing scatter. That s*** starts to hurt quick. Rocket arty isn't so bad, it's generally one-and-done, but it's scary as hell for the ten, twenty seconds it takes to happen, and smart, coordinated enemies will use the cover of a rocket barrage to advance on your location while you're disrupted.
    Speaking of - TALK TO YOUR MATES. Five well-coordinated sets of treads will massacre fifteen uncommunicative idiots in short order. You're one cog in a big machine. Grease the gears with coordination. I don't just mean talk to your crew, though that's good too - concentrate fire with friendlies, call out weak targets, share ammo and bmats (for the love of god someone bring a spare fuel can with like twenty left, getting fueled is death), cover the poor f*** who just got their turret broken, and if there's a bunch of you needing to retreat and you don't think your tank will make it (or you're in a piece of expendable s*** like a stolen Falchion), sometimes someone's gotta die for everyone else to get away. Tank corpses last about ten seconds, they can't be pushed past or shot through, and that's enough time for a line to disengage in good order.
    If you're new, listen to your local veteran, there's always at least one of us around. I mean, do that anyway, we know what we're about (some of us are arseholes though, feel free to ignore anyone who's being mean - looking at you, small but vocal percentage of builders, the rookie may be wrong but you're a prick and that's worse), but especially for tanks. Good vets are usually willing to command a tank with rookie crews, we love helping the new guys out. Welcome aboard, and don't worry about cocking it up, just fall back when the commander says and you should do good.
    More below, apparently there's a limit to how much you can say in one comment.

    • @stormwing9123
      @stormwing9123 3 месяца назад +13

      Drivers, no matter what the idiots in gunnery and command say (including me), your job is to keep the tank alive. If you're with someone you know, or the situation is desperate, sometimes you gotta commit, but as the guy behind the stick you have the ability to say 'no, I'm not doing that, what the f*** dude' and just not drive forwards. There's taking risks and there's dying stupid, and you are the final line of responsibility to prevent the latter.
      Gunners, that rifle trooper is not a threat to you, don't chuck a forty at them. Save shells for targets that matter - AT troops, field guns, pillboxes, enemy armour, random trucks - suicide trucks are almost always a waste of time and resources, but you don't want to be on the receiving end of a Reddit post in the making. Try to focus the target your commander has called out, but unless your base is low on ammo, it's often better to take a bad shot against a different tank than wait for a good one on your called enemy, unless you're using a really big gun with a long reload. Also for the love of god AIM FOR TURRETS, TRACKS, AND ASSES. Frontal plating is the hardest target on the enemy tank. No. Bad. Stop it.
      Commanders, you are simultaneously the most and least important person in the tank. You call targets, you warn of enemies, you advise and support and command, but ultimately you have no real way to get at the enemy yourself (well, pistol, shortrifle, pitch gun, but you should really be using binocs) and you're just gonna have to get used to that. You call plays, but it's your crew (and sometimes other crews around you) who execute them. Oh, do try and keep morale up, though. I recommend either learning to sing, acting bats*** insane, or both. Put on a persona, go a little crazy, have fun. If anyone calls you weird, live well in the joy of knowing that their boring existence will never fulfil them as much as your joyous whimsy does you. Be weird on purpose. Kill the cringe in your mind.
      Engineers, you only exist in the really big tanks (and the Talos I guess) and you have the most boring job in existence. Hold left click unless you need to reload. If you're full on reps and there's a shell in the chamber, keep an eye on the map, maybe? Or look near you for stickies? I dunno, your job kinda sucks. Sorry, buddy. Really glad to have you along, though. Oh, maybe take a builder uniform to carry more bmats at the cost of filter stacking, you don't want to carry anything other than those two things and I think it lets you get like five or ten more.
      Each tank has its own quirks and flaws and weirdness, you'll learn them as you go. This applies to both your side and the enemy. Try to think about how you would act in an enemy tanker's situation. As a rule of thumb, short-ranged treads (Bardiche, Silverhand kinda, Highwayman and Bonelaw) attract aggressive types who won't back down easy, but can be baited into a charge. Snipers like the Lordscar (STD) or Pekelys (LTD) love to hang back and poke holes in you, but they'll run on a dime, and you can often scare them away - try to push them into infantry, it's harder to do than you'd think but one well-placed frag or burst of fire from above or behind can de-crew them. As a side note, if you're in an open-topped tank and I see you going into unsecured urban territory, I'm killing you myself before the enemy does, to preserve the treads. Do bear in mind that these are stereotypes, not automatic assumptions, and that sometimes the enemy crew is in the tank that was available, not the tank they wanted.
      Die. With. The. Tank. Don't let your armour get captured. Only thing worse than a dead friendly is seeing the damn thing on the enemy side of the battle-line. Breaks my heart every time. Also, lock your f***ing doors. Even if you can't hop in open seats on active enemy vehicles anymore (pity, but I get it), they can still dump your ammo on the ground, and that's still pretty bad. Take more filters than you think you need, too.
      Repairing armour is important, but sometimes you've just gotta live with looking like a cast-iron pan that hasn't been cleaned this decade. Night-time is a good time to leave, but if you're one of the only things holding the line together, you've gotta stick around. Sometimes a crappy tank is better than no tank. If you can get away, though, do it, the amount of bonus damage you take when your armour is zeroed is scary.
      Night-time is scary, but full of opportunity. Everything that should scare you in daytime should scare you twice as much at night, because you can't see it, but the enemy is scared too. If your cohesion is good, and your base is out of binocular range of the enemy tank line so they can't see you doing it, battles can be won or lost very, very fast by coordinated strikes at night, when the enemy line has drawn down a few vehicles and the crews think they're safe. Even without that, if you've got good crunchies, keeping an infantry screen out front can let you undertake limited operations at night without too much fear. Just keep your escape routes open.
      STEAL STUFF. Dead enemies are spicy lootboxes. Ammo is expensive and tanker kits aren't cheap either. Binoculars, radios, gas masks and filters, they're all light and relatively hard to get your hands on. Bmats are always good, too. But I really cannot stress enough how much you should take every shell you can get your grubby little mitts on. Even if you're full (you aren't), the next tank over could do with a few rounds.
      TLDR: tank good, don't be an idiot, and for the love of god lock your doors.

    The bard is slow to start too, but once you get it rolling you just keep moving - best to start it from further back rather than the actual tank line too.

    Tanks are a big reason I gave up on Foxhole. Perfect accuracy hitscan explosives, airbursts at max range so even cover isn't safe, infantry anti tank only useful if the enemy doesn't have infantry support and you've got at least 5 other people with you. I usually quit frontline 2 weeks in and just focused on logi till the end of each war.

    • @BlueLaminate
      @BlueLaminate  Месяц назад

      Can't blame you on the lack of stabilization mechanics for tanks tbh.
      I used to dislike mid war for some of these points, until I started seeing enemy tanks on the battlefield as a puzzle.
      You're right on the point that you need like 5 other people with you if you want to take down a tank, foxhole is a team effect after all. Personally, I believe that strategizing the best way to take down a tank with other infantrymen is part of the whole experience. One of my first long videos was dedicated to one of those strategies. (The Bane Gang)
      But whether it's sticky rushing, mortaring down supporting infantry first, feigning a rush so you can flank, relying on your buddy in the pushgun to track a specific tank, truck rushing, bane ganging, or my favorite -the bicycle block- there are multiple ways to take down a tank as infantry (Though I think we might need more), but very rarely can you do it on your own.

    • @BlueLaminate

      Pretty sure Spathas and Falchions have a max range of 40m, while the Bard has 35m, correct me if I'm wrong.
      Although I hear that barrel length matters too. Pretty sure YodaofSoda made a chart including those, and the Bard was near the bottom. Those 5 extra meters really matter :(
