    I'm scared but I'm going take a leap of faith and start the masters program... it's been 5 years of me trying to figure out what area I want to move into, from the Lab . So I'm excited! Hoping to start this Spring ❤

      Those leaps are always scary but every successful person had to take it. I believe in you. Make sure you do some investigative work while in school. Seek out what your desirable job would look like, find out what they are looking for in a candidate, become that. Remember, a degree will only get you so far. It’s what you do outside of school that will have you soaring. Take care and thanks so much for watching!

    So glad I found your channel so much info! I have been a medical assistant for 10 years, went back to school and received my bachelors in sociology, as I was thinking of transitioning into the social service realm and possibly teaching, yet was not exactly sure what I wanted to do.. so been taking the last year still working in the clinic and debating my next step, looking at multiple job postings.. well I stumbled upon informatics, and instantly began interested! And just got hired as a clinical informatics and training specialist!! I’m excited for my next chapter in this field!

    Watching now. Jenn I've been trying to avoid informatics for the longest. My question is do you have to be a tech junkie to be in informatics? How much programming skills do you really need? Right now I do software support but my passion has always been Science and Public Health. The problem is that for technical jobs like informatics they want you to know programming like Python, Sql and R. I'm more interested in Bioinformatics and Health informatics. Are there any informatics jobs that don't require as much programming? I don't wanna talk on the phone or having to take apart computers. Not interested at all. Preferably an informatics career that still keeps you involved in the science/health aspect. I know you do nursing informatics but there should be some similarities.

      Hey Dustin! I think I tagged you in a video series. It will be very helpful. Informatics is not as techy as people think. We do work with technology but most of us do not work with programming. You can take that route but you will have to take more courses out side of Informatics. Informatics is the connecting tissue between operations and IT. We speak both languages but do not go indepth with either one. If a job is requiring programming then that is out of the ordinary but not a surprise as more and more companies want to hire informatics specialist. I recommend you seek certifications in those programming applications after your degree. You are correct HI and NI are very similar in our jobs and we definitely don't take apart computers or talk on the phone alot unless we are on-call. Not sure if you watched this video but it will help give you an idea of what we do. ruclips.net/video/xvXoJoR0UYU/видео.html . Thanks for your support!

    Does health informatics also deal with data analysis? Or is it more on the data collection and IT side?

    • @InformaticsLife
      @InformaticsLife  2 года назад +1

      Hey @schauzeit!! Thank you for watching this video. Yes, all informatics specialist typically deal with some form of data analysis as this should drive change and optimization. You would take data captured and translate that into solutions that are needed for healthcare. It's good to have some form of foundation in the concept. Some companies have their own data analytic departments but informatics specialists, I feel, should be able to do some form of it for work efficiency. Hope that helps.

    Hi I’m a Currently an ICU nurse. With a background in the OR, skilled, long term, SNF, and risk manager. I have always wanted to go into informatics. My sign came when all of a sudden started seeing all these ads and pop ups on Tiktok about informatics. I’m becoming burnt out and want a change. I feel like it’s my time now. I just don’t know where to start and the first steps I need to take after researching. Any advice? I’m watching a lot of your videos currently.

    What was your training/orientation like?

    • @InformaticsLife
      @InformaticsLife  2 года назад

      Hey Sara! My training was really focused on learning multiple applications that I would be expected to support. I came from bedside nursing so the only thing I know was my Electronic Medical Record Platform, Cerner. When you go into the field, you have to learn more platforms (apps) that other medical staff uses as well as learn the backend of the platform (app). I also had to learn how to be on-call, teach computer training classes, learn to round on my units and much more. Also, any type of new tech for the nurses, we had to crash learn it, learn how to support, it and teach the classes. Hope that helps!! Thanks for watching my videos, I appreciate you!
