I've read them all. Wasn't too impressed with the early issues, but I will say they have improved quite a bit with the more recent issues #3 and #4. Looking forward to the next one!

Glad to hear you think both series are improving! I need to catch up 📚

I've been reading comics since 1970. I'm really excited about this new EC. I remember reading the magazine format stuff back in the day. I think it was Warren publishing I liked the most in the seventies and eighties? Had to sneak that stuff past my mom. I found a bunch of EC reprints in the 90's and reread them about once a Year. If you like short story comics format, find the old EC stuff, lots of fun. Have a wonderful day.

Even though it’s branded as the first revival, there has been others over the decades

I like the Jay Stephens homage variant covers, for me they are the highlight of these first issues. As others have said, Cruel Universe is the less bad of the two. Both fail to live up to the EC legacy, which was predictable. They shouldn't have licensed the name, which forces us to draw comparisons.
Also a small correction: my understanding is the Gaines family still owns EC related copyrights, not DC/Discovery.

recently finished these, I thought they were pretty good by today's standards.

The point of' EC' COMICS, is that they're classic graphics. Not sure about these🖐

They became classics because they broke trends and did their own thing. I hope this new run can do the same, but that remains to be seen.

@@dangerouscomics I'm not so on board for any other company riding the coat tail of a company that defined the genre. Really kinda against it. I would rather talk the reprinted stuff. Or the company go the route of starting their own title based on new material.👻

They weren’t gone for 70 years. I bought EC comics in the 1960’s.

I guess they mean the first new EC comics in 70 years. Though Papercutz made new issues of Tales From The Crypt between 2007 and 2014 that seem all but forgotten.

I wasn't happy with these EC books. Not totally terrible. Art is up and down but the writing is weaker and the whole package just isn't up to EC standards. Magnificent covers though.

The covers definitely pulled me in. I’m hoping the next few issues will be able to find a groove, but I agree on the inconstancies. Thanks for watching!

Epitaph was a mess-- heavy handed political messages done poorly. Cruel Universe was much better.

Sigh...did we need to put politics in EC? Not even politics that make any sense, just buzz words.

I mean, have you ever read EC? How are you going to delude yourself and say that there was no political content in the original comics? The issue here is, how fucking terrible the interior art is

Issue 2 is a step up from 1 especially for the story "US v.s. Us" and I don't mind it getting political, but some of the stories didn't get properly built up the tension but kept hitting you more with the message then it was properly earned.I feel like it's gonna take sometime to find their voices. The pace of the tales is going to be kinda interesting because EC Comics was never shy to explore different variants of Horror with it's twists.
Cruel Universe is brilliant. The first story in issue 1 is honestly earned and character building. Solid story.
Modern takes on Shock and Crime Suspense Stories would be an absolute treat.
